St. Mary's shocks Gonzaga for WCC title
March 12, 2019
ShareFacebookTwitterDiggMySpace

LAS VEGAS (AP) Saint Mary's heard for weeks about the NCAA Tournament bubble. First four in, first four out, fortunate to be in the discussion to be included in the field of 68.

Tired of all the chatter, the Gaels put an emphatic end to it, popping the bubble by taking down a team no one outside their program thought they could beat.

Saint Mary's ended the nation's longest winning streak and Gonzaga's six-year reign as West Coast Conference Tournament champions, grinding out a 60-47 victory in the title game on Tuesday night.

''We were told to pull off a miracle by people who don't know us,'' said Saint Mary's guard Jordan Hunter, who had 12 points and 15 rebounds. ''We didn't need a miracle. We knew we could beat them.''

Saint Mary's (22-11) all but shut down the nation's highest-scoring team by slowing the game and forcing Gonzaga to grind out possessions instead of playing fast and free.

The Gaels held Gonzaga's leading scorer Rui Hachimura in check and limited the Zags (30-3) to 2-of-17 shooting from 3-point range to end the nation's longest winning streak at 21 games.

Gonzaga's 18-game WCC tournament winning streak, dating to the 2012 title game, also came to an end, and so too could its bid for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Instead of waiting for Selection Sunday, Saint Mary's left no doubt, getting back to the NCAA Tournament after a one-year absence with its first WCC title in nine years.

Jordan Ford had 17 points and Tanner Krebs scored 13 for the Gaels.

''The way we did it, from where we were at the beginning of the year until now, I get a lot of satisfaction out of that,'' Saint Mary's coach Randy Bennett said.

Gonzaga steamrolled its way to the regular-season title and through the WCC semifinals by getting out in transition, knocking down open shots.

The Zags did neither against Saint Mary's, held to a season-low in points and 37-percent shooting. Gonzaga had six assists after finishing with 26 in the WCC semifinals against Pepperdine.

Brandon Clarke led Gonzaga with 16 points and Hachimura was held to nine, nearly 12 under his average.

''It was our worst offensive game of the year and give them credit for that,'' Gonzaga coach Mark Few said.

Gonzaga dominated the WCC during the regular season, finishing 16-0 while winning by a conference-record 27 points per game.

Two of those wins came against Saint Mary's: 66-55 in Moraga and 94-46 in Spokane.

The Bulldogs cruised into their 20th straight title game under Few - and 22nd overall - by crushing Pepperdine 100-74 in Monday's semifinals.

Saint Mary's controlled the pace in round three against Gonzaga, bogging down the Zags' offense and forcing them into difficult shots. Gonzaga struggled to get anything to fall, open or not, scoring a season-low 24 points by halftime and missing six of its seven 3-point attempts.

''Gonzaga likes to get out and run, they feed off energy,'' Ford said. ''It was kind of like a home game for them and we had to slow the tempo.''

The Zags also had a hard time containing Krebs. The junior, who averages 8.9 points per game, had 13 by halftime to push the Gaels to a 27-24 lead. Saint Mary's did it with second-leading scorer Malik Fitts limited to less than a minute because of foul trouble.

Saint Mary's continued to bog down Gonzaga and Fitts scored eight quick points to open the second half. The Gaels extended the lead to 48-41 with 7 1/2 minutes left and answered every time Gonzaga tried to make a run.

''They were mucking it up a little bit, getting into lanes and we just didn't make shots,'' said Gonzaga guard Josh Perkins, who had 10 points, four assists and five turnovers.

BIG PICTURE

Saint Mary's played arguably its best game of the season at the best possible time. Now it's on to the NCAA Tournament.

Gonzaga was never able to speed the Gaels up and rev up their high-scoring offense, showing a weakness that could be exploited.

STOPPING RUI

Few teams have been able to slow Hachimura this season. The versatile 6-foot-8 Japanese forward entered the WCC title game averaging 20.1 points and is a top All-America contender.

Saint Mary's never allowed Hachimura to get into a flow, banging him around and bringing help defense anytime he made a move. Hachimura attempted just six shots and made three while going 3 for 6 on free throws.

UP NEXT

Both teams await their NCAA seedings.

Wednesday?s 6-pack

Odds to win the Mountain West tournament this week:

8-5: Nevada

2-1: Utah State

8-1: Fresno State

15-1: San Diego State, UNLV

25-1: Boise State

100-1: New Mexico, Air Force, Colorado State

500-1: Wyoming, San Jose State

Tweet of the Day
?l went to a place to eat. It said ?breakfast any time.? So I ordered French toast during the Renaissance.?
Steven Wright, comedian

Wednesday?s quiz
Where is Wright State University located?

Tuesday?s quiz
ACC has the most teams, with 15 basketball-playing schools.

Monday?s quiz
There are ten Canadian provinces.

************************

Wednesday?s List of 13: Mid-week musings??.

13) Giants traded Odell Beckham Jr to Cleveland last night; I?m guessing Odell might not enjoy December by Lake Erie, but while the Ravens/Steelers lose players this month and the Bengals pretty much stand still. are the Browns a playoff contender now?

Giants got Jabril Peppers, plus draft picks in 1st and 3rd rounds.

12) Are there any other honest people left? Parents paying off people so their kids can go to fancy colleges. Oy. Just send the kid to a damn state college and tell him/her to study.

Jerome Allen is an assistant coach with the Celtics; he used to work at Penn, and admitted to taking $300K to designate a kid as a basketball recruit at Penn, so the kid could get into an Ivy League school.

The three smartest (whether book smart or street smart) people I know went to these colleges, and I?m posting the colleges in alphabetical order, not in order of how smart those people are:

Albany, Northeastern, St Francis NY

Not a lot of ?elite? colleges on that list. Smart people come from all kinds of schools.

USC?s senior associate athletic director, Donna Heinel, apparently received more than $1.3M in bribe payments to fabricate athletic credentials for prospective students.

Tremendous. Just awesome. Ms Heinel has already been fired, by the way.

11) Monday at the MGM in Las Vegas, a courageous soul made a $310,000 money-line bet on the Raptors (-$420) to win in Cleveland; they lost by 25. Had Toronto won, the bettor would?ve banked a little over $73,800. Tough way to start the week.

10) At the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas, Detroit Lions dropped from 100-1 to 60-1 to win the Super Bowl, after their four free agent signings.

9) Teddy Bridgewater is taking less money to be the Saints? backup QB, instead of being the starter with the Dolphins? What does that say about Miami?

8) Monday night in LA, Lou Williams of the Clippers set the NBA?s all-time record for most points scored off the bench, passing Dell Curry. Williams has scored 13,037 points in the NBA, but has started only 11.8% of his 923 career games.

Remember seeing Williams play in an AAU tournament in Orlando back when he was in high school; if I remember right, he played for the Atlanta Celtics? AAU team- they were excellent.

7) Bradley?s path to winning the MVC tournament:
? beat Missouri State by 3; trailed by 7 early in 2nd half.
? beat Loyola, Chi by 2; trailed by 4 with 12:11 left.
? beat Northern Iowa by 3; trailed by 18 with 17:07 left.

6) Texas PG Kerwin Roach will play for the Longhorns in the Big 12 tournament this week, so whatever offense he committed to get suspended for the last five games is forgiven.

Ohio State?s Kaleb Wesson will also be back for the Big 14 tournament; he was suspended for the last three games.

Funny how conference tournaments make suspensions go away.

5) Five years ago, Mercer won the Atlantic Sun tourney, then beat Duke in the first round of the NCAA?s, before losing to Tennessee in the 2nd round. Mercer beat Duke as a 14-seed. In the last 20 years, #14-seeds are 8-72 in the first round of the NCAA tournament- Mercer?s win was a very big deal.

The next year, Mercer moved up to the Southern Conference and in five years since then, Bears went 83-83, 46-46 in conference games. Thats a .500 record in a better league, but Monday, they fired coach Bob Hoffman, the same guy who coached the team when they beat Duke.

Who made this decision? This isn?t UCLA or some other big-money school that expects to make the tournament every year to appease its big-money boosters. It is freakin? Mercer. If you?re Mercer and the guy beats Duke, you give him a 10-year contract and pray he doesn?t bolt your school for green$r pa$ture$.

4) If you care about such things, you can wager on next year?s Super Bowl right now; AFC is favored by 2.5 points, with a total of 57.

3) Oakland Grizzlies basketball coach Greg Kampe played football in college at Bowling Green, graduating in 1978? one of his coaches was Don Nehlen, who went on to an excellent career coaching West Virginia. Kampe was a cornerback, who also kicked/punted.

2) Chris Woodward is the new manager of the Texas Rangers; he went on live TV for a half-inning with the Rangers? TV guys during an exhibition game the other night and he was great. Best one of those interviews I?ve seen. He talked about how a lot of players don?t know all the rules, and how the bench coach for the Dodgers (Bob Geren) ??.is obsessed with rules.? Was interesting to listen to.

1) A?s play Seattle over in Japan in games that count, starting at 5:30am here in New York on both March 20th and 21st; the NCAA tournament starts at noon on the 21st. When the hell am I supposed to sleep?

No. 9 Butler vs. No. 8 Providence (FS1, 7:00 p.m. ET)

Both these teams finished Big East play at 7-11 as they meet to tip off the Big East tournament. Providence beat Butler twice in its final three games of the season, including an 83-70 victory last Saturday as a 2.5-point home favorite. The Friars didn't have much consistency in conference play, as PC won consecutive Big East games only once, while going 0-4 in the last four contests off a victory.

Butler could never get its head above water inside the Big East following a 3-3 start. The Bulldogs lost four of their final five games, including three straight defeats away from Indianapolis by double-digits. Last season marked the first time that Butler won a Big East tournament game after going 0-4 in its first four seasons in the conference as the Bulldogs edged Seton Hall, 75-74. Since 2014, the Friars own a sterling 10-1 ATS record in the Big East tourney, but was listed as a favorite only once.

No. 10 DePaul vs. No. 7 St. John's (FS1, 9:30 p.m. ET)

St. John's has an opportunity at an NCAA tournament berth for the first time under head coach Chris Mullin, but the Red Storm finished Big East play at 8-10. The Johnnies stumbled to three consecutive losses down the stretch, including a pair of defeats to Xavier. The other loss in this stretch came to DePaul in a 92-83 setback, as the Blue Demons swept the season series from St. John's for the first time since joining the Big East in 2005.

The Blue Demons won the most conference games (7) since the Big East restructured to 10 teams in 2013, including three road victories. Since covering its first three games in league play in the underdog role, DePaul went 4-7 ATS in its final 11 games when receiving points. DePaul beat Georgetown in the Big East opening round in 2014, but has lost five straight conference tournament games. The Red Storm has won each of their last two Big East tournament openers, while facing the Blue Demons in the tournament for the first time.

Overall: 19-12 SU, 15-16 ATS

No. 9 Oklahoma State vs. No. 8 TCU (ESPNU, 7:00 p.m. ET)

TCU started the season at 11-1 in non-conference play, but the Horned Frogs have won eight games since the calendar turned to 2019. Although TCU closed the regular season with a solid road victory at Texas as seven-point underdogs, the Horned Frogs dropped six of their final eight games to sit on the NCAA tournament bubble. Oklahoma State gave TCU plenty of issues in two matchups as the Horned Frogs edged the Cowboys in Fort Worth by two points, while OSU tripped up TCU in Stillwater last month.

The Cowboys ended the season on a high note by beating Baylor and West Virginia to close 5-13 in the Big 12, while covering in their final four contests. OSU has struggled in the Big 12 tournament the last few seasons by losing in the opening game from 2015-17 before topping rival Oklahoma last March. TCU and Oklahoma State are meeting in the Big 12 tournament for the first time ever as the Horned Frogs look to cover in the favorite role for the first time in six tries.

No. 10 West Virginia vs. No. 7 Oklahoma (ESPNU, 9:30 p.m. ET)

It was a disastrous season in Morgantown for WVU, who is normally competing for Big 12 titles. The Mountaineers finished at the bottom of the Big 12 for the time since entering the league with a 4-14 record. WVU split its final four contests of the season after dropping five straight, including home triumphs over TCU and Iowa State. The Mountaineers got the scoring going late by cashing the OVER in the last five games, as they scored at least 75 points and allowed at least 75 points in each contest during this span.

Oklahoma suffered through a five-game skid midway through Big 12 play before finishing strong by winning four of its final six games. Despite a 15-point defeat at Kansas State to close the season, the Sooners picked up victories over Kansas, Texas, and TCU after a rough start in February. OU split a pair of matchups with West Virginia with the home team winning each time, while both games sailed OVER the total. The Sooners have been knocked out of their first Big 12 tournament game the last two seasons, while WVU has captured victories in three straight conference tournament openers.

No. 9 Clemson vs. No. 8 N.C. State (ESPN, 12:00 p.m. ET)

Each of these ACC rivals concluded the regular season with identical 9-9 records as the winner will face top-seeded Virginia on Thursday. The Wolfpack edged the Tigers in Raleigh in the lone regular season matchup in late January, 69-67, but Clemson cashed as 4.5-point underdogs. Clemson lost that game by two points in spite of going 0-for-7 from three-point range, as the Tigers hook up with the Wolfpack in the ACC tournament for the first time since 2017.

The Tigers overcame a 1-5 start in conference play as they finished on a strong 4-1 run with the only defeat coming by two points to North Carolina. Clemson covered in seven of 11 opportunities as a favorite against ACC opponents, while going for its fourth ATS cover in the last five ACC tournament contests. The Wolfpack closed out ACC action at 5-6 since beating Clemson, but four of the wins came against Boston College twice, Pittsburgh, and Wake Forest.

No. 12 Miami (FL) vs. No. 5 Virginia Tech (ESPN, 2:30 p.m. ET)

Miami picked up its first win away from Coral Gables since late November in the opening round of the ACC tournament by defeating Wake Forest, 79-71. The Hurricanes didn't pick up consecutive victories in ACC play this season, while beating only one team that finished with a .500 record in league action (Clemson). Miami is playing with double-revenge in the second round against Virginia Tech after losing twice to the Hokies this season, including falling in Blacksburg last Friday, 84-70.

The Hokies put together a solid 12-6 mark in conference action this season, although nine of the victories came against the bottom six teams in the league. The signature victory came against Duke as a home underdog last month as Virginia Tech compiled a 10-1 SU and 5-5-1 ATS mark in the favorite role inside the ACC. THe Hokies are listed as a favorite in an ACC tournament game for the first time since 2011 when they defeated Georgia Tech in the opening round.

No. 15 Notre Dame vs. No. 7 Louisville (ESPN2, 7:00 p.m. ET)

Notre Dame won only three ACC games in the regular season as they swept Boston College and knocked off Georgia Tech at home. The Fighting Irish cruised past the Yellow Jackets in the opening round of the ACC tournament to end a seven-game slide, while hitting the OVER for the first time in six contests in a 78-71 triumph. The 78 points scored by Notre Dame were the most since posting 79 against Boston College on February 2, a span of 11 games.

Louisville jumped out to an impressive 8-3 start in ACC play and was on its way to a 9-3 record when the Cardinals led Duke by 23 points with less than 10 minutes remaining on February 12. The Blue Devils rallied to shock the Cardinals and send Louisville into a tail spin that saw them lose five of their final seven games. One of the two victories came against Notre Dame on March 3 in a 75-61 home win, as the Cardinals look to improve on a 1-3 record in four ACC tournament contests.

No. 14 Pittsburgh vs. No. 6 Syracuse (ESPN2, 9:30 p.m. ET)

Pittsburgh started ACC play at 2-2 following a winless conference slate last season. However, the Panthers reverted to their old ways by going on an 0-13 SU and 0-12-1 ATS slide before edging Notre Dame in the season finale. The Panthers held off Boston College in the opening round of the ACC tournament, 80-70 as Pitt draws another old Big East foe when they face Syracuse in the late matchup on Wednesday. Pittsburgh dropped both matchups with Syracuse this season, by 9 and 11 points, as the Panthers covered in only one of their 15 losses in ACC play.

The Orange aren't in great form heading into the ACC tournament by losing four of their final five games. Syracuse is 3-0 this season following consecutive losses, with all three victories coming by 20 points or more. The Orange took care of business in the favorite role inside the conference by posting a 7-2 SU/ATS record, including a perfect 4-0 SU/ATS mark away from the Carrier Dome. The Panthers defeated the Orange the last time these teams hooked up in the ACC tournament back in 2016 in a 72-71 victory, but Syracuse cashed as four-point 'dogs.

No. 13 Georgia vs. No. 12 Missouri (SEC, 7:00 p.m. ET)

Tom Crean's first season in Athens hasn't had many highlights. The 'Dawgs won at Florida and upset Texas at home. That's pretty much it. Georgia has lost 15 of 17 and got drilled 64-39 by Missouri on Senior Day back on March 6, killing all momentum from their Gators upset. They averaged 42.5 points over their last two games and have seen the 'under' connect in five of six. Seniors Nicolas Claxton and Derek Ogbeide must help control the paint and be more efficient around the basket to pull off an upset.

Since forward Jontay Porter was lost for the season before it even began, the Tigers have been fighting an uphill battle in Cuonzo Martin's second season. They need to make a deep run to even flirt with .500 and would love to get their young roster some valuable experience since there has been improvement. They come into this tournament with wins in two of three games for the first time in 2019 but list solid freshman guard Javon Pickett as questionable for this one due to back trouble. Mizzou held Georgia to 25.5 percent shooting in its meeting earlier this month.

Totals: 12-18 O/U

No. 14 Vanderbilt vs. No. 11 Texas A&M (SEC, 9:30 p.m. ET)

After a winless run through SEC play, Bryce Drew is hoping his team can avoid a 20th loss or at least show a little backbone in going out against the Aggies. The 'Dores have lost their last two games by 57 points but did play A&M tougher than most SEC foes, losing 64-57 in College Stateion on March 2. Losing prized recruit Darius Garland five games in was a blow this young group couldn't come back from, but sophomore Saben Lee and freshmen Aaron Nesmith and Simisola Shittu are still capable of producing an upset. The 'under' has prevailed in 10 straight Vandy games.

Head coach Billy Kennedy will probably not be back after a disappointing season that has seen attendance drop off and more wins than losses for the first time since his first season leading the program back in '12. They've been without senior guard T.J. Starks the past few weeks and will need guard Wendell Mitchell to snap out of his shooting slump since he's shot just 5-for-27 from 3-point range over his past four contests. The 'under' has connected in seven of the last 10 games involving A&M.

Tourney Futures - Best Bets

College Basketball Conference Tournament Futures

We've reached conference tournament season for the power conferences now and that's always an exciting time of year. Everybody in the country has a shot at getting hot for multiple and earning their automatic bid if they are on the outside looking in, bubble teams are looking for at least a good run to solidify their standing, and top teams already in the NCAA tournament can lay an egg if they decide they aren't too concerned with the conference tournament result.

All in all, it's a great prelude to the NCAA tournament with action all day, all week, and with the stakes as high as they are for some programs, it's always interesting to see who gets swallowed up by the pressure pill first. As bettors, all this action is great, and with distinct scheduling advantages built into these tournaments with byes and double-byes, mitigating your daily risk on these games with some futures tickets is never a bad option.

So with that in mind, let's take a look at one top seed, one mid-seed, and one low seed that could come away with conference tournament championships by the weekend, or at the very least make some noise on the way to that goal.

Odds per - BetOnline.ag

Top Seed to win Conference Tournament
Michigan State to win Big 10 (+175)

Michigan State comes into the Big 10 tournament as the top seed, but more importantly for a play like this, have got the much easier path to the finals because of it.

Michigan, Purdue, and Wisconsin have also received double-byes, but Wisconsin is a clear class behind the other three teams in that scenario and that's who Michigan State would line up against in the semis should both schools advance.

The Spartans do have to deal with the winner of Ohio State/Indiana ? Spartans fans are likely rooting for the Buckeyes there since they were 2-0 SU vs Ohio State and 0-2 SU vs Indiana ? and while both teams would love to make their own name from a win over a team like Michigan State, I just don't see that being the case.

It's been a few years now since the Spartans have had conference tournament success ? last finals appearance was 2016 ? but in this decade, this Michigan State program under Izzo tends to try and get every four-year class at least one conference tournament title ring at some point during their careers, and for the seniors on this year's squad, a win here would actually make it two.

But it's all about the relative easy path for Michigan State to find themselves not dealing with the likes of Purdue or Michigan again until the finals. If that's what it comes down to, I've got no problem holding a Michigan State ML ticket at +175.

Odds per - BetOnline.ag

Mid-Range Seed to win Conference Tournament
Iowa State to win Big 12 (+600)

The Big 12 saw quite a few changes this year with Kansas not finishing at the top and a West Virginia program ? who have made three straight Big 12 tournament finals coming into this year ? as the bottom-feeder in the conference for basically the entire year. It's been a conference about change and new challengers, and there can be legitimate cases made for arguably the top eight seeds in this conference should they get hot shooting the ball for a few days.

But for me, the most likely team to get hot shooting the ball simply because they already have a great scoring offense (77.7 points/game), and possibly storm in and get past the top seeds, is this Iowa State Cyclones team.

Iowa State is the highest scoring team in the Big 12 with those nearly 78 points per game, and while their defense really let them down during the final stretch of the year (1-5 SU and ATS last six), in terms of their potential matchups to reach the finals could be rather favorable.

Dealing with a Baylor Bears team that beat the Cyclones in both meetings this year is no easy task out of the gate, but both of those losses were by four points or less. All it takes is a play or two to go Iowa State's way in the third game, and the Cyclones move one to face a top-seeded Kansas State team who doesn't have the scoring to keep up with Iowa State is on.

Iowa State proved that already this year with their 14-point win IN Kansas State, and should it be that matchup in the semis, you've got to figure the Cyclones will be quite confident regardless. The first meeting with K-State ended in a one-point home defeat when Iowa State couldn't hit anything. The 57 points Iowa State scored was the only time they scored fewer than 65 points all year, so a one-point loss to the league's eventual winner isn't that bad of a result.

From there, it's likely dealing with Texas Tech or Kansas whom will both be laying chalk over the Cyclones, but again, should Iowa State's offense get/remain hot, there's no team in the Big 12 they aren't capable of beating.

Longshot to win Conference Tournament
Arkansas to win SEC (+6600)

This is for those that like to dream big, but similar to thoughts on both Michigan State and Iowa State earlier, the path to the finals isn't ?loaded? with challenges for the Razorbacks in the SEC.

Being on the top side of the bracket at the #9 seed means that should Arkansas manage to get by Florida in their tournament opener, there won't be any games against Kentucky or Tennessee looming until the finals. Sure, the likes of #1 LSU, #4 South Carolina, and #5 Auburn aren't walks in the park, neither is Florida for that matter, but let's draw out a potential map for Arkansas to go the distance.

Beating Florida is up first, and the Razorbacks have improved a fair bit since their only meeting with the Gators on January 9th. Florida is one of those fringe NCAA tournament teams so the Gators can't afford to slip up, but they are also a great candidate to get swallowed up by pressure because they can have prolonged mental and physical lapses on both ends of the floor. Arkansas finished the year well with three straight wins thanks to their offense stepping up and being consistent, and if that continues and the confidence remains, Arkansas should get by the nervous Gators.

Next up would be a LSU team that Arkansas beat at the buzzer and lost to in OT, so the Razorbacks will feel plenty comfortable there. Throw in the fact that LSU's program is in complete chaos right now with the Will Wade suspension and Ja'vonte Smart sitting out situation, LSU's probably the best candidate of the SEC's top teams to lose first regardless. Going up against this Arkansas team that took you to the wire for the full 40 minutes in both meetings, without Smart on the floor, is a matchup LSU probably wants little to do with right now.

Obviously then it would take Arkansas getting through two of either Auburn, South Carolina, Kentucky, or Tennessee and that's where the longshot dream probably ends up dying.

But who knows, Auburn could end up not caring much about their result given they are likely locked into their seeding line for the NCAA's already, and it's not like South Carolina is an overall good team (16-15 SU). The winner of Round 3 in Kentucky/Tennessee might be so gassed that they succumb to the letdown situation following such a big game.

A lot to ask I know, but you are always going to need a little luck with longshots. With Arkansas's path to the at least the semis being tough, but totally doable, holding onto a +6600 ticket at that stage opens up quite a few hedging opportunities at worst.

NCAA Basketball Odds - Big Ten Tournament Preview

The Michigan State Spartans beat rival Michigan in the regular season finale to tie for the Big Ten title. Now they are the favorites to win the conference tournament. Michigan State, the Wolverines and the Purdue Boilermakers are the top three teams as judged by the oddsmakers.

Purdue tied with Michigan State atop the regular season leaderboard but is behind the other two when it comes to the likelihood of winning the Big Ten tournament. There is a lot on the line for those teams as they aim to get a high seed in March Madness.

There are some underdogs that also hope to make some noise in the conference tourney, although it would be a big surprise if someone like Wisconsin, Maryland or Penn State managed to come away with the title in NCAA men?s basketball wagering.

This Big Ten Tournament will be held at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois from Wednesday, March 13th through Sunday, March 17th, 2019. The Big Ten Tournament championship game will be nationally televised on CBS.

We'll have NCAA basketball odds at BookMaker.eu available for every game of the 2019 NCAA basketball season.

Odds Analysis

Michigan State had another impressive season, going 25-6 overall and 16-4 in Big Ten play. It lost three games in a row early in conference play and had a late loss to Indiana which jeopardized its chance at the regular season crown, but the win over Michigan in the finale tied up Purdue for a split of the hardware. The Spartans are deep and talented, and thus have been listed at +175 to win the Big Ten tournament.

Michigan has the best overall record of anyone in the conference at 26-5, but finished in third place in the regular season at 15-5 in conference. The Wolverines? calling card is their defense, and as the intensity goes up in the postseason that can be a big help. Michigan?s odds are also pretty good at +250, and it would not be a surprise at all if it emerged with the Big Ten tournament crown.

Purdue went 23-8 on the year and finished 16-4 in the Big Ten. The Boilermakers went a perfect 15-0 on their home floor and hope to find similar success on this neutral court. Even though Purdue tied for the conference championship, they are not placed in the same tier as Michigan State or Michigan as the odds for the Boilermakers to win the Big Ten tournament are set at +300.

Those are the three teams that are expected to compete for the title. The rest of the field is pretty big underdogs. Wisconsin had a record of 22-9 overall and 14-6 in conference and is listed at +800. Maryland is next in line at +1000 odds, and after that comex the extreme longshots. Penn State checks in at +2500 odds, Indiana at +3000, Iowa at +5000, Minnesota at +5000, Nebraska at +7500, Ohio State at +7500, Illinois at +10000, Northwestern at +20000 and Rutgers at +20000.

Free NCAA Basketball ATS Picks

The Big Ten didn?t have a clearly dominant team in the regular season as all of the teams took their lumps. Purdue is a solid group and may be able to make a nice run, but in the end the oddsmakers have chosen the right team as the favorite.

Michigan State is putting things together at the right time and is the pick to win the conference tournament in NCAA men?s basketball gambling.

NCAA Basketball Odds - ACC Tournament Preview

The ACC is the most powerful conference in the country, and its tournament should be a heavyweight battle until the end. Three of the best programs in the nation -- Virginia, North Carolina and Duke -- highlight the group but there is also a second tier of talented teams.

Virginia and North Carolina tied atop the ACC at the conclusion of the regular season and should be two of the top contenders in the tournament. Duke superstar forward Zion Williamson has resumed practicing, and if he can make his return, it will give the Blue Devils a huge boost and could make them the team to beat.

Virginia, North Carolina and Duke are all in contention for a No. 1 seed in March Madness and would love to win the ACC Tournament. There are numerous other tournament teams in the field who can solidify their case with a good showing in NCAA men?s basketball gambling.

This ACC Tournament will be held at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina from Tuesday, March 12th through Saturday, March 16th, 2019.

We'll have NCAA basketball odds at BookMaker.eu available for every game of the 2019 NCAA basketball season.

Odds Analysis

Virginia has put together a fantastic season and enters the conference tournament as the favorite to come away with the crown. The Cavaliers are 28-2 overall on the season with a 16-2 mark in the conference. Virginia has won eight in a row entering the tourney and has +150 odds to capture it.

Duke is not far behind. Williamson seems likely to be back and he is the best player in the country, so it will be a big help. The Blue Devils finished the regular season with a record of 26-5 overall and 14-4 in conference. However, several of those losses came when he was out, which is why Duke is coming in at +170 to win the ACC Tournament. Despite some issues recently, the Blue Devils may have the most talented team in the country when healthy.

The North Carolina Tar Heels finished the season on a seven-game winning streak, going 26-5 overall and 16-2 in the ACC. UNC swept Duke and has really played well of late. Luke Maye has a ton of experience and he will look to lead his team to the conference championship. If the Tar Heels win the ACC tourney, that should lock up a No. 1 seed in March Madness. North Carolina?s odds are listed at +300, so the oddsmakers are not quite putting it on the same plane as Duke and Virginia.

Those are the big three. However, there are some teams that will aim to get hot and make a nice run. Florida State is ranked No. 14 in the nation after finishing the regular season with a 25-6 overall mark and a record of 13-5 in the ACC. The Seminoles? odds are still long at +1200 because the conference is so stacked.

Virginia Tech is in a similar boat. The Hokies are ranked in the top-15 nationally and have a record of 23-7 overall and 12-6 in conference, but check in at +1500 odds to win the tournament. While Florida State and Virginia Tech are longshots, at least they are given a puncher?s chance.

Louisville is listed at +3000 odds, Syracuse at +4000 and North Carolina State and Clemson at +5000. The road is so tough that it?s hard to imagine anyone outside the elite trio of Virginia, Duke and North Carolina will win the ACC Tournament.

Free NCAA Basketball ATS Picks

Some players may take some time to round back into form, but Williamson is such a freak that he will likely make an impact from the moment he steps back on the court. Virginia may be the slightest of favorites, but the Blue Devils are the more talented team. At these odds, Duke is the easy pick to win the ACC Tournament in NCAA men?s basketball gambling.
