Eastern Conference First Round ? Game 4 ? 76ers lead 2-1
Philadelphia at Miami (TNT, 2:35 p.m. ET)

The NBA is a make or miss league and that mantra has not been more apparent than for this series. The 76ers have won each of their two games against the Heat by knocking down 18 three-pointers in each victory. In the lone loss in Game 2, Philadelphia was limited to 7-of-36 shooting from downtown.

Oh, and having Joel Embiid in the lineup helps, too.

After missing the first two games of this series due to an eye injury, Embiid shook off a slow start by scoring a team-high 23 points, including 10 points from the foul line. The 76ers drilled 18-of-34 three-point attempts in a 128-108 blowout of the Heat as 2 ?-point favorites to capture a 2-1 series lead. The dagger came in the fourth quarter as Philadelphia outscored Miami, 32-14, marking the second win in the series by the Sixers by more than 20 points.

All five Philadelphia starters finished in double-figures, as Ben Simmons scored 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for his second double-double in the series. Marco Belinelli emerged off the bench once again as a spark by posting 21 points, while Dario Saric also put up 21 points, as both players canned four treys.

The Heat lost in spite of hitting 16 three-pointers, as Justise Winslow and Josh Richardson each converted on four attempts from downtown. However, Dwyane Wade came back down to Earth following his 28-point performance in Game 2, as the Heat guard was limited to 2-of-10 shooting for eight points on Thursday. Center Hassan Whiteside was a non-factor for the third straight game by scoring five points in 13 minutes, moving his series total to 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Following Thursday?s victory, the 76ers improved to 18-1 SU and 13-6 ATS the last 19 games dating back to March 15. In this stretch, Brent Brown?s squad has covered in five of seven opportunities as a road favorite with the two non-covers coming as double-digit chalk in wins over the Hawks and Knicks.

VegasInsider.com NBA expert Tony Mejia chimes in on this pivotal Game 4 matchup, ?What can Erik Spoelstra and his staff do to adjust to Embiid?s presence now that they?ve seen that not doubling to get the ball out of his hands isn?t an option? Kelly Olynyk will likely get the most minutes in small lineups with Whiteside looking like a no-show, which means we?ll likely see the pace continue to favor Philadelphia since Miami won?t be able to get the game slowed down unless the 76ers suffer through another brutal shooting game like they did in Game 2.?

Will it be another shootout in Miami? ?The total opened at 217 and has been bet down into the 215 range. The odd-numbered games have gotten into the 230's and reached 216 in spite of Philly?s 7-for-36 effort on 3-pointers this past Monday, so I?m not certain this series can be slowed down to the Heat?s liking,? Mejia notes.

The Heat have one play-on angle for Saturday, at least according to a trend from the 2017 postseason. Home teams trailing a series, 2-1 put together a solid 4-1 record in Game 4?s, with the Rockets winning at Oklahoma City in the first round being the only outlier.

Western Conference First Round ? Game 4 ? Pelicans lead 3-0
Portland at New Orleans (TNT, 5:05 p.m. ET)

The Blazers closed out the regular season by knocking off the Jazz to grab coveted home-court advantage in the opening round of the playoffs. It seems like that was the worst-possible scenario for Portland, who lost both games at home to New Orleans, followed by a 17-point setback on Thursday to fall into an insurmountable 3-0 series hole.

The Pelicans/Hornets franchise has advanced past the first round only once since moving to New Orleans in 2002, as the Pels knocked out the Mavericks in 2008. Anthony Davis is carrying the torch towards a potential second round appearance for New Orleans after putting together a third straight double-double against Portland. Davis scored 28 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in Thursday?s 119-102 blowout of the Blazers to easily cash as 3 ?-point favorites.

The off-season signing of veteran point guard Rajon Rondo has paid incredible dividends as he put up 16 points and 11 assists in Game 3. Jrue Holiday continues to win the backcourt battle with Portland by registering a +19 rating and scoring 16 points for New Orleans. Alvin Gentry?s squad has shot over 47% from the field in all three wins, including better than 50% in Games 2 and 3.

Damian Lillard?s playoff credentials took another hit as the Blazers? All-Star guard by hitting only 5-of-14 shots from the floor for 20 points in Game 3. The 20 points was actually a series best for Lillard, but he averaged nearly 27 points per game in the regular season, which isn?t cutting it for Portland. The Blazers fell to 2-15 SU as a road underdog in the playoffs since 2014 with 13 of those defeats by double-digits.

Last season, Portland fell behind Golden State, 3-0 and didn?t bother to show up in Game 4 at home as the Blazers lost to the eventual champion Warriors, 128-103. In the 2017 playoffs, clubs down 3-0 put together a 1-5 record in Game 4 action, but all six teams played at home. In 2016 (the upcoming stat doesn?t bode well for Portland), two road teams looked to avoid the sweep in Game 4 and were wiped out. Washington routed Toronto, 125-94, while Cleveland torched Atlanta, 118-88 as both teams covered with no sweat as a favorite.

Mejia checks in on this potential series-ender in the Big Easy, ?Playing with pride is a given from Portland since Lillard and C.J. McCollum are absolutely not quitters, but they?re going to have to make a large volume of 3-pointers late in the shot clock to give the Blazers a chance to get this series back to the Moda Center. New Orleans is pushing tempo at all costs, rendering Jusuf Nurkic as a liability when he?s been so effective down the stretch.

?This is a case of a bad matchup arriving at the worst possible time. We?re going to hear all about Lillard?s ankle and other bangs and bruises that have helped trip up the Trail Blazers all month, but that may not prevent major changes despite a second division title in four years and five straight playoff appearances. That 25-to-1 Exact Game series prop for New Orleans that a few astute bettors are about to hit sounds delightful.?

The Pelicans? train isn?t slowing down anytime soon, as New Orleans has won and covered eight straight games dating back to April 4. Portland is going the opposite way on the highway by losing six consecutive road contests, while posting a 1-5 ATS record in this stretch.

Western Conference First Round ? Game 3- Rockets lead 2-0
Houston at Minnesota (ESPN, 7:35 p.m. ET)

After receiving a slight scare in their Game 1 victory, the Rockets pressed the gas in Game 2 on Wednesday and captured a 102-82 victory over the Timberwolves as 10 ?-point home favorites.

Houston trailed 23-18 after the first quarter but outscored Minnesota by 20 in the second stanza and led 55-40 at halftime. The Timbewolves couldn?t buy a shot (39%) and surprisingly, neither could the Rockets (36.5%). The difference was triples and Houston connected on 16 albeit they took 52 from distance while Minnesota was 5-of-18 (28%) from 3-point land.

Chris Paul led Houston with 27 points and Gerald Green contributed with 21 points of the bench, which was needed with James Harden having a horrible shooting night (2-of-18). Knowing the Rockets still won the game by 20 points and Harden had only 12 points makes you believe this series will end in four games.

The oddsmakers certainly believe so, listing the Rockets as -20000 favorites (Bet $100 to win 50 cents) to win the series while the long shot takeback on the Timberwolves is listed at 30/1 odds (Bet $100 to win $3,000).

For Game 3, Houston opened as a three-point road favorite and the number was quickly pushed up to -5 as was the total from 213 to 214 ?.

Snapping a 13-year playoff drought was expected this season by Minnesota and it achieved that goal but Tom Thibodeau?s team just doesn?t match up well with Houston and that?s clearly evident when you look at their recent head-to-head meetings.

Including this series, the Rockets have won 18 of the past 20 encounters against Minnesota and that includes a 9-1 mark since Tibs arrived. The Wolves did hold a 4-0 ATS run in his rookie coaching campaign but the Rockets have covered five of the six meetings this season

In the two games played at Minnesota this season, Houston earned 129-120 and 126-108 victories as road favorites while the ?over? easily cashed in both games.

A lot of the blame for Minnesota in this series has been directed at Karl-Anthony Towns and deservingly so. His plus-minus of -21 was tied for worst on the team and he finished with five points on 2-of-9 shooting. That effort came after scoring just eight points in Game 1 on 3-of-9 shooting.

VegasInsider.com NBA expert Tony Mejia believes the third-year big man out of Kentucky will show up on Saturday evening.

He explained, ?An aggressive Karl-Anthony Towns will undoubtedly show up since his ears have undoubtedly been burning over the past week due to how disappointing he?s been. He hadn?t had consecutive games with single-digit shot attempts since back-to-back losses in Atlanta and Toronto to end January and bounced back with a four-game stretch where he made 40 of 56 shots, which included going off for 35 points on the Rockets. He?s more comfortable at home, so at least keep that in mind before pounding the road favorite, which is what human nature is likely telling you to do given how lost the Timberwolves looked in Houston.?

Bettors wavering on the side or total can always invest in Player Props on Towns and not surprisingly his numbers (23 PPG, 12.8 RPG) at home were much more productive in the regular season.

It?s hard to delve into playoff angles for Minnesota since its last trip came in 2004 but the homecourt proved to be valuable as the Wolves went 8-2 SU and 5-5 ATS during that postseason run which ended in a six-game series loss to the L.A. Lakers in the Western Conference Finals.

If you?re looking for an angle to play the Wolves in Game 3, you could point to Houston?s weak playoff record on the road since Harden arrived in the 2012-13 season. The Rockets are 6-16 SU and 11-10-1 ATS as visitors. They?ve only been listed as favorites twice during this span and they?ve gone 1-1 SU and 0-2 ATS while the ?over? was 2-0 in those games.

As mentioned above, the total has been moving up and we?ve got a Best Bet featured on Game 3.

Game 4 will take place at the Target Center on Monday.

Western Conference First Round ? Game 3 - Series tied 1-1
Oklahoma City at Utah (ESPN, 10:05 p.m. ET)

The 4-5 matchup in the Western Conference was expected to be the tightest first round series and the opening two games have lived up to that billing. Oklahoma City captured Game 1 116-108 last Sunday and Utah rebounded this past Wednesday with a 102-95 victory in Game 2 while cashing as a three-point road underdog.

Utah rookie Donovan Mitchell continued to build his resume by dropping 28 points on Wednesday and 13 of them came in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Oklahoma City?s ?Big Three? of Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Carmelo Anthony went a combined 0-of-14 in the final 12 minutes as the Thunder were outscored 28-16 by the Jazz.

Both the Jazz (41.7%, 31%, 79%) and Thunder (40%, 31%, 67%) struggled shooting from the field, 3-point land and the free throw stripe. Outside of OKC scoring 33 point in the third quarter, neither team had much rhythm as the ?under? (208 ?) connected.

The key for OKC is Westbrook and Mejia is hesitant to back last year?s regular season MVP when you delve into his current form.

?Russell Westbrook is shooting less than 39 percent in the series and again faded down the stretch, so this shooting slump he?s been mired in over the past five games is threatening to be a season-killer. He?s shot just under 35 percent in splitting his last four meetings in Salt Lake City since Kevin Durant left town, so recent history doesn?t bode well for a resurgence,? stated Mejia.

He added, ?Unless he figures out how to beat a great Jazz defense without the benefit of a jumper that can no longer be relied upon, Utah is in position to take control of the series. Finishing with 13 assists and just three turnovers in Game 2 is a positive sign since the Thunder are going to lose unless he can get both Paul George and Carmelo Anthony going after they posted a bagel in Wednesday?s fourth quarter.?

For Game 3, oddsmakers opened Utah as a 4 ?-point home favorite with a total of 207 and both numbers have held steady.

The Jazz closed the season 15-5 at Vivint Smart Home Arena but they weren?t profitable (9-11 ATS) at the betting counter. Plus, only seven of those games came against playoff teams and they were a pedestrian 4-3 versus the tougher competition.

The Thunder weren?t a great road team (21-20 SU, 17-23-1 ATS) by any means but it went 8-4 in the second-half of the season and two of the losses came by less than four points. As a road ?dog, OKC went 6-5 and the point-spread never mattered which could make you believe the money-line (+170) is the better option in Game 3.

Oklahoma City certainly has different faces on this year?s squad but it enters Saturday?s matchup with a six-game road losing skid in the playoffs. On the side of the court, Utah hasn?t been much better. In last year?s postseason, Utah went 1-4 both SU and ATS at home.

The series price opened OKC (-135) Utah (+115) and those odds have flip-flopped to Utah (-135) OKC (+115) after the split.

The pair will meet again Monday in Game 4 from Salt Lake City.

Saturday NBA Playoffs Best Bet

Houston Rockets vs Minnesota Timberwolves ? Game 3

The Houston Rockets take a 2-0 series lead with them to Minnesota for Game 3 on Saturday night as if Game 2 was any indication, Minnesota won't be making a return trip with the Rockets back to Houston for a Game 5.

Minnesota was blown out 102-82 in Game 2 in a game that really got ugly for the T-Wolves once the second quarter started. Putting up 17 and 18 points in the 2nd and 3rd frames respectively doesn't have a hope in hell of beating this high-powered Houston team, and Minnesota is hoping some home cooking can reverse the fortunes of their offense right now.

Can Minnesota get it together in time before they fall down 0-3 in this series?

Houston (-5); Total set at 214

Now that the series has shifted back home for Minnesota, they are hoping some friendly surroundings can help get Karl-Anthony Towns out of his funk. Towns has basically been non-existent in this series so far with just 8 points in Game 1 and 5 points in Game 2.

If Minnesota is going to win a game in this series they need Towns to assert his will offensively and put up 25+ points and there is just no way around it. Being back at home should help get Towns going, but what will give him more room to work with inside is having others around him knock down shots. Whether that means we see a bit more of Jamal Crawford in Game 3 is unknown, but his shooting ability can spread the floor out and then Minnesota can work that inside-out game that brought them so much success this year.

Houston, well, they will just keep doing what they do and that's shooting a lot of threes and let James Harden dictate the pace of the game. Houston's defense has been the most surprising thing (in a positive way) for the Rockets to this 2-0 series lead though as the Rocket shave not really shot the ball anywhere near their standards, but they've still got a 20-point win in this series.

The Rockets defense is hoping to travel with them, but knowing how desperate the T-Wolves will be in Game 3, Harden and the rest of Houston's shooters better be prepared for an old fashioned shootout if you ask me.

These two teams were ranked in the Top 10 in points per game this year (Houston #2, Minnesota #8) and we haven't really seen either side explode yet in this series. Given the fact that their four meetings in the regular season saw Houston score 116 or more in all four games, eventually we will see the Rockets tickle that 120-point mark and Minnesota is more likely to keep up now that they are back at home.

In fact, both home games Minnesota played against the Rockets this year cashed 'over' tickets, and while Minnesota went 0-2 SU and ATS in those games, they scored at least 108 points in each. If Towns shows up and pours in 20+, Minnesota should threaten the 110 mark here and that should be more than enough to cash an 'over' ticket for the first time in this series.

So that's where my money is going on this game, as I don't think we see any more sub-200 point games in this series and I'm not about to fool around with the point spread that could end up coming down to make or miss free throws at the end. This game has all the makings of a track meet after two sub-par shooting efforts by both teams quite frankly.

Best Bet: Over 214 points

Saturday's NBA Playoffs Betting Preview and Odds

The opening round of the 2018 NBA Playoffs continues Saturday with two Game 3s and two Game 4s, including the Pelicans looking to be the first team to clinch their spot in the Conference semifinals.

Philadelphia 76ers at Miami Heat (+3, 215)

76ers lead series 2-1

Philadelphia 76ers All-Star center Joel Embiid returned with a vengeance from an orbital fracture and is intent on making things painful for the Miami Heat. Embiid and the third-seeded 76ers look to take a 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference first-round series on Saturday in Miami.

TV: 2:30 p.m. ET, TNT, NBCS Philadelphia, FS Sun (Miami)

SERIES PRICE (PER LV SUPERBOOK):

2n9cebp.jpg

LINE MOVES AND BETTING ACTION: Oddsmakers opened the Sixers as 3-point road favorites for Game 4 and the line has yet to move off that number. It's the total that's seeing the early action, moving down two points from 217 to 215. That's interesting considering 61 percent of wagers are on the Over accoring to our consensus. Sixty-seven percent of wagers are laying the points with the Sixers.

ABOUT THE 76ERS (54-31, 49-34-2 ATS, 43-41 O/U): Embiid had 23 points, seven rebounds and four assists in Thursday's 128-108 trouncing of the Heat after missing the previous 10 games, including the first two of the playoff series. Emiid's return also facilitated for the Sixers shooters, who ended up hitting over 50 percent of their 3-pointers in Game 3. Philadelphia is also receiving superb contributions from backup shooting guard Marco Belinelli, who had 21 points in Game 3 and is averaging 20.7 in the series.

ABOUT THE HEAT (45-40, 41-38-6 ATS, 39-45-1 O/U): Center Hassan Whiteside has been a complete nonfactor in the series with averages of 13.3 minutes, 3.7 points and four rebounds. Whiteside accumulated four fouls in just 13 minutes of action in Game 3 and again drew criticism for his latest subpar effort, and coach Eric Spoelstra said getting him back on track for Game 4 is a huge priority.

MATCHUP CHART:

97ofx5.jpg

TRENDS:

* 76ers are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games.
* Heat are 1-5 ATS in their last six home games.
* Over is 6-1 in 76ers last seven vs. Eastern Conference opponents.
* Over is 5-1-1 in Heat last seven vs. Atlantic Division opponents.

Portland Trail Blazers at New Orleans Pelicans (-7, 216)

Pelicans lead series 3-0

Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans are one victory away from completing a stunning yet dominating four-game sweep. The sixth-seeded Pelicans look to finish off their demolition of the third-seeded Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday when the Western Conference first-round series resumes in New Orleans.

TV: 5 p.m. ET, TNT, NBCS Northwest (Portland), FS New Orleans

SERIES PRICE (PER LV SUPERBOOK):

2aaau4n.jpg

LINE MOVES AND BETTING ACTION: The Pellies opened Game 4 as 6-point home faves and bettors not only think New Orleans will end the series on Saturday, they like them enough to move the line to -7. With the Pellies seeing just 53 percent of the wagers according to our consensus, that may indicate that its sharp money moving the line. The total remains at the opening number of 216.

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (49-36, 45-35-5 ATS, 36-49 O/U): The guard-oriented offense isn't working well with star Damian Lillard struggling and McCollum's 9-of-16 shooting in Game 3 representing his best effort of the series. McCollum scored 22 points in Game 3 and is averaging 21 in the series, while Lillard scored a series-high 20 in Game 3 but is a dismal 18-of-55 shooting through three games. Swingman Evan Turner (toe) is questionable after missing Game 4.

ABOUT THE PELICANS (51-34, 48-36-1 ATS, 48-37 O/U): Forward Nikola Mirotic is enjoying a superb series and is averaging 21 points after exploding for 30 points on 12-of-15 shooting in Game 3. Mirotic has made 11 3-pointers while averaging nine rebounds, 2.3 blocked shots and 1.7 steals in the series and the Trail Blazers seem to have no answer on how to handle the trio of Davis, guard Jrue Holiday and Mirotic, who was acquired from the Chicago Bulls at the end of January after DeMarcus Cousins (Achilles) was lost for the season. Davis is averaging 28.3 points, 12.3 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 2.3 steals in the series.

MATCHUP CHART:

hvxvk8.jpg

TRENDS:

* Trail Blazers are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games.
* Pelicans are 8-0 ATS in their last eight games overall.
* Under is 6-1 in Trail Blazers last seven vs. a team with a winning SU record.
* Under is 9-3-1 in Pelicans last 13 vs. a team with a winning SU record.

Houston Rockets at Minnesota Timberwolves (+5.5, 214)

Rockets lead series 2-0

Houston Rockets guard James Harden is likely to take home his first NBA MVP trophy this season and is the best player on the team with the best record in the league, but he is not the whole team. The Rockets will take any offense they can get from Harden when they try to push their lead in the best-of-seven first-round series to 3-0 when they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN, AT&T SportsNet Southwest (Houston), FS North (Minnesota)

SERIES PRICE (PER LV SUPERBOOK):

x1hgdl.jpg

LINE MOVES AND BETTING ACTION: The Rockets hit the board as low as 3.5-point road favorites for Game 3, but bettors jumped all over the low number and have pushed it all the way to the current number of Rockets -5.5. That isn't too surprising considering the Rockets are seeing 62 percent of wagers according to our consensus. The total opened at 213 and is up to 214, with 66 percent of wagers on the Over.

ABOUT THE ROCKETS (61-17, 42-41-1 ATS, 33-50-1 O/U): How can you tell Minnesota doesn't have a chance in this series? Harden went 2-of-18 from the floor in Game 2 but Houston still managed to post a 102-82 win and the Rockets are shooting just 29.2 percent from 3-point range in the series and are up 2-0. Houston's supporting cast stepped up to help Harden on Wednesday, with Houston native Gerald Green coming off the bench for 21 points and Trevor Ariza adding 15. Chris Paul added 27 points and eight assists in Game 2.

ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (47-37, 38-43-3 ATS, 45-38-1 O/U): Minnesota remains confident despite being in an 0-2 hole and is excited to play the franchise's first home playoff game since Game 5 of the Western Conference finals in 2004. Andrew Wiggins led Minnesota's starters and was one of only three players on the team to score in double figures with 13 points in Game 2.

MATCHUP CHART:

2hhp3du.jpg

TRENDS:

* Rockets are 1-7 ATS in their last eight vs. Western Conference opponents.
* Timberwolves are 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
* Under is 26-6 in Rockets last 32 vs. Western Conference opponents.
* Over is 7-1 in Timberwolves last eight home games vs. a team with a winning road record.

Oklahoma City Thunder at Utah Jazz (-4.5, 207)

Series tied 1-1

The Utah Jazz took homecourt advantage behind rookie star Donovan Mitchell with a win at Oklahoma City in Game 2. The Jazz will try to hold onto that advantage when they host the Thunder in Game 3 of the best-of-seven Western Conference first-round series on Saturday.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, ESPN, FS Oklahoma, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Utah)

SERIES PRICE (PER LV SUPERBOOK):

27yv85t.jpg

LINE MOVES AND BETTING ACTION: Oddsmakers opened the Jazz as 3.5-point home favorites and were quickly bet to the current number of -4.5. Even with the line move, bettors are split almost down the middle for this matchup according to our consensus with 52 percent of wagers giving the Jazz a slight edge. The total remains at the opening number of 207.

ABOUT THE THUNDER (49-35, 35-48-1 ATS, 37-47 O/U): Carmelo Anthony is off to a slow start in his first playoff series with Oklahoma City and is 11-of-31 from the floor through two games. Small forward Paul George, who dubbed himself "Playoff P," went 6-of-21 from the field in the loss after a terrific Game 1. Meanwhile, former MVP Russell Westbrook recorded a double-double in each of the first two games.

ABOUT THE JAZZ (49-35, 44-40 ATS, 40-43-1 O/U): Utah dropped Game 1 and fell behind in Game 2 before outscoring Oklahoma City 28-16 in the fourth quarter to steal a 102-95 victory. Mitchell's 55 points are the most for a rookie for a rookie guard in his first two playoff games, surpassing the 53 points scored by Michael Jordan. The backcourt production was matched up front by Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors, who combined for 33 points and 31 rebounds.

MATCHUP CHART:

2rqnewi.jpg

TRENDS:

* Thunder are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games.
* Jazz are 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games.
* Under is 5-0 in Thunder last five road games.
* Under is 8-0 in the last eight meetings in Utah.

Advantage Utah? Jazz's Derrick Favors "100 percent" back
April 21, 2018

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) When Derrick Favors can find ways to impose his will, good things happen for the Utah Jazz.

Favors has been quietly, albeit effectively, getting it done against the Oklahoma City Thunder, playing in the shadows of Utah rookie of the year candidate Donovan Mitchell and Jazz center Rudy Gobert.

But a healthy Favors is making an impact.

The Jazz have returned to Utah with the series tied 1-1, thanks in no small part to Favors. He tallied career playoff highs of 20 points and 16 rebounds in Utah's 102-95 road win on Wednesday.

Jazz coach Quin Snyder will start Favors at power forward alongside Gobert beginning with Game 3 on Saturday. But he will also utilize him as a backup center to spell Gobert. Favors has done his part to make playing alongside Gobert work by extending his shooting range to improve offensive spacing. He has also made himself an effective roller.

''He's always been a good pick-and-roll player, regardless of `position,''' Snyder said. ''We've never really thought of him as one position or the other. We've thought of him as a basketball player and tried to have him understand his strengths and then play to his strengths.''

Indeed. In the first two playoff games against the Thunder, Favors is averaging 13.5 points on 52 percent shooting and 10.5 rebounds.

It is exactly the type of impact Favors envisioned making when fighting to reclaim his body from knee and back injuries that afflicted him for the better part of two seasons.

''I'm back to being 100 percent,'' Favors said. ''Back healthy. Back moving the way I know I can move and playing the way I know I can play. It's a big advantage for us.''

There's no question having Favors at full strength has improved Utah's ability to counter a Thunder team featuring the potent trio of Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony and Paul George. The veteran forward/center offers versatility on both ends of the court honed through playing multiple positions as circumstances dictate.

Crashing the boards definitely tops the list when checking off Favors' strengths. He ranks second on the Jazz roster in rebounding behind Gobert with 7.2 rebounds per game.

When Favors is active on the glass, it can change the direction of a game for Utah. In Game 2 against Oklahoma City, he grabbed eight offensive rebounds through the first 2 1/2 quarters. By contrast, the Thunder totaled six offensive boards as a team in the same stretch.

''His length and his strength allow him to get his hands on balls,'' Snyder said. ''He's got such good hands that even when he keeps the ball alive, usually something good happens.''

Favors' willingness to go full throttle around the basket has turned him into a reliable complimentary player on offense. He rolls to the basket with consistency and, more often than not, it pays off for him.

It has turned Favors into a legitimate offensive presence again. He averaged 9.5 points on 48.7 percent shooting while limited to 50 games a year ago. This season, Favors is scoring 12.3 points per game while shooting 56.3 percent from the floor.

''Other teams and other opponents, they look and see I'm 6-foot-10 and think I'm a 5 man or whatever, so they try to take advantage of it,'' Favors said. ''It just feels good to be able to go out there and move the way that I know that I can move and be able to play the way I know that I can play and teams can't take advantage of it.''

Favors is focused on staying aggressive as the series with the Thunder shifts to Utah. He is having fun playing basketball again and wants to make sure Oklahoma City continues to feel his presence on both ends of the court.

His teammates certainly do and they understand what a difference it can potentially make as the Jazz battle to keep going in the postseason.

''He's been like that all year,'' Mitchell said, ''but he's definitely turned it up with what he can do.''

76ers' Simmons has triple-double vs. Heat; Pelicans advance
April 21, 2018

MIAMI (AP) Ben Simmons had the first playoff triple-double by a rookie in nearly 40 years, JJ Redick scored 24 points and the Philadelphia 76ers outlasted the Miami Heat 106-102 on Saturday to move within a victory of the second round.

The 76ers lead the Eastern Conference series 3-1 and can close out the Heat when play resumes in Philadelphia on Tuesday night.

Simmons became the first rookie since Magic Johnson in 1980 to post a playoff triple-double - 17 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists. Joel Embiid finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds for Philadelphia.

Dwyane Wade led all scorers with 25 points off the bench for the Heat, who led by 12 points in the second half before letting a game they almost certainly had to have slip away. Wade carried the comeback effort, with the Heat down six and less than 2 minutes left. His three-point play cut the margin in half and his next two field goals got Miami within one each time. The Heat got no closer.

PELICANS 131, TRAIL BLAZERS 123

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Anthony Davis scored 33 of his franchise playoff-record 47 points in the second half, and the Pelicans completed a first-round playoff sweep of the Portland Trail Blazers.

Jrue Holiday capped his 41-point performance with an 18-foot pull-up jumper that gave the Pelicans a six-point lead with 40 seconds left.

Rajon Rondo added 16 assists, and Davis also had 11 rebounds and three blocks for New Orleans, which is moving on to the second round of the playoffs for only the second time since the NBA returned to the city 16 seasons ago.

C.J. McCollum scored 38 for the Trail Blazers, which responded to a blowout loss in Game 3 by keeping Game 4 close until the final minute. Al-Farouq Aminu scored 27, Damian Lillard added 19 points and Jusuf Nurkic had 18 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out.

TIMBERWOLVES 121, ROCKETS 105

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Jimmy Butler hit four 3-pointers among his 28 points and Karl-Anthony Towns snapped back from a bad start to the series with 18 points and 16 rebounds, leading the Minnesota Timberwolves past the Houston Rockets for their first postseason victory in 14 years.

Jeff Teague scored 23 points and Andrew Wiggins pitched in 20 points with another four 3-pointers, helping the Timberwolves match the fire-away Rockets from behind the arc and cruise down the stretch behind a 50 percent shooting performance.

Derrick Rose added 17 points off the bench for the Wolves, who will try to even the series with a win in Game 4 on Monday night.

James Harden led the way for Houston with 29 points, but Chris Paul fouled out with 17 points and the Rockets went just 15 for 41 from 3-point range.

Sunday?s 6-pack

Early over/under win totals for NFL teams in 2018:

10.5? Eagles, Patriots, Packers, Vikings

9.5? Falcons, Texans, Jaguars, Chargers, Rams

8.5? Ravens, Panthers, Cowboys, Saints, Raiders, 49ers, Seahawks

7.5? Broncos, Lions, Chiefs, Giants, Titans

6.5? Bills, Bears, Colts, Jets, Buccaneers

5.5? Cardinals, Bengals, Dolphins, Redskins

Quote of the Day
?FOX asked to take some of their quality Sunday afternoon games, doubleheader games, and put them on Thursday night. So here was the trick for us as a group: Could we populate the Thursday night FOX schedule with at least a handful of games that would otherwise be FOX doubleheader games? And still leave FOX with enough quality doubleheader games? And still be able to take a handful of FOX games and put them on CBS??
NFL schedule maker Howard Katz

Sunday?s quiz
Before last night, who was the last Oakland A?s pitcher to throw a no-hitter?

Saturday?s quiz
Of 30 current major league general managers, 13 went to an Ivy League school.

Friday?s quiz
Dusty Baker was manager of the Cincinnati Reds before Bryan Price.

*********************

Sunday?s List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday

13) Oakland 3, Boston 0? Sean Manaea?s first career complete game is also a no-hitter, and against a powerful lineup that was 17-2 coming into the game.

Manaea walked only two hitters; it was the first time the Red Sox were shut out in 25 years, when current Tigers? pitching coach Chris Bosio did it for the Mariners on April 22, 1993, so almost 25 years to the day.

12) San Diego Padres? manager Andy Green had himself a dilemma in Phoenix Friday night.

Padres led 1-0 after seven innings; Green?s Tyson Ross had a no-hitter going but had already thrown 104 pitches? this was his 4th start back from injury. Ross threw 81-107-100 pitches in his first three starts this season.

Ross? health is very important, winning the game is important; the no-hitter is less important but is the one thing everyone would talk about.

11) Ross walked a guy, then with two out CF Franchy Cordero got Green off the hook when he misjudged a fly ball that fell for a double that tied the score and ended the no-hitter, after Ross had thrown 127 pitches.

San Diego went on to win 4-1; hopefully Ross will bounce back and the longest outing of his career won?t cause his arm any problems.

10) Utah Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell was the 13th player taken in last summer?s draft; Denver took him, then traded him to Utah for Tyler Lydon, Trey Lyles.

Mitchell scored 55 points in Utah?s first two playoff games, breaking Michael Jordan?s record for most points scored by a guard in his first two playoff games. Anytime you break one of Jordan?s records, you?re doing pretty well.

9) Cal Bears hired former UCLA assistant basketball coach David Grace to the same position; there seemed to be hard feelings when Steve Alford fired the former Air Force veteran last month. Grace was a solid recruiter for the Bruins. UCLA-Cal games might be a little more spirited than normal next winter.

8) Seven Pittsburgh Pirates were involved on a double play in Friday?s game; the play was scored 1-3-4-2-5-8-7, which means everyone touched the ball except the shortstop and rightfielder, and that doesn?t happen much at all.

7) From Christopher Kamka: Javier B?ez is the first Cubs? player with 20+ RBI in team?s first 17 games of a season since Billy Williams (25) in 1970.

6) Sports are interesting because sometimes you benefit from stuff that has nothing to do with you. Take the NBA?s New Orleans Pelicans.

Nikola Mirotic scored 30 points for New Orleans in their Game 3 win over Portland; the Pelicans are one of the NBA?s hottest teams, and Mirotic is a big reason why.

Back on October 17, Mirotic was in training camp with the Chicago Bulls; he was trash-talking with teammate Bobby Portis during a practice and finally a scuffle broke out. Portis punched Mirotic in the face; Mirotic was left with a fractured face and a concussion.

5) Nine days later, Mirotic says either he or Portis has to leave the Bulls, but Mirotic couldn?t be traded until mid-January because he just signed a two-year deal with the Bulls last summer. Other Bulls who were quoted anonymously said they preferred Portis over Mirotic as a teammate, which had to make things pretty awkward for 9 or 10 weeks.

Finally on February 1, Mirotic was sent to New Orleans for three players and a #1 draft pick. Good move by the Pelicans; they?re still playing. Chicago finished the season 27-55.

4) Was watching the Reds-Cardinals game on the baseball package on DirecTV Saturday; the Reds? announcers sound like their best friend just died. Very somber. I know the team sucks, but tell some stories, entertain the viewers? talk about how to get out of slumps. Something!!!

3) 76ers 106, Heat 102? Philly leads series 3-1; Miami led all four games at halftime.

2) Aaron Rodgers bought a minority stake in the Milwaukee Bucks this week; not bad for a guy who had zero football scholarship offers coming out of high school.

1) They had 86,818 fans at Nebraska?s spring football game Saturday.

Number 31 on the red team scored a touchdown in that game; he is a wide receiver from Arizona and that was his first-ever college catch. Kid?s name is Kade Warner; you might?ve heard of his father, Hall of Fame QB Kurt Warner.

**Boston at Milwaukee**

-- In an 0-2 hole going back home for Game 3 in the first round of the NBA playoffs, Milwaukee (45-40 straight up, 35-45-5 against the spread) broke through Friday night with a 116-92 win over Boston as a five-point home favorite. The 208 combined points went ?over? the 205.5-point total to stay perfect in the series. The Bucks darted out to a 27-12 lead to end of the first quarter and kept their feet on the accelerator. They led 58-35 at intermission and didn?t allow the Celtics to get any closer than 14 in the second half.

-- Khris Middleton was the catalyst in the Game 3 laugher, producing 23 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, one steal and one blocked shots. Middleton hit 10-of-17 field-goal attempts and 3-of-6 launches from 3-point land. Giannis Antetokounmpo added 19 points, six assists, five rebounds, two steals and two rejections, while Jabari Parker and Eric Bledsoe finished with 17 points apiece. Thon Maker was also in double figures with 14 points, five rebounds and five blocked shots. He buried 3-of-4 attempts from downtown.

-- In the losing effort, Al Horford scored a team-best 16 points for the Celtics. Greg Monroe contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds in just 23 minutes of playing time off the bench. Jayson Tatum finished with 14 points and five boards.

-- Horford is averaging 18.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocked shots per game in the series so far. Horford, the two-time national-title winner at the University of Florida who has helped his team to the postseason in all 10 of his seasons in The Association, has a 9/3 assist-to-turnover ratio.

-- Boston (57-28 SU, 52-31-2 ATS) owns a 27-15 record both SU and ATS in its 42 road assignments.

-- Milwaukee has posted a 26-16 SU record and a 13-25-4 ATS mark at home.

-- As of Saturday afternoon, most books had Milwaukee installed as a 4.5-point ?chalk? with a total of 204. The Celtics were +175 on the money line (risk $100 to win $175). For first-half wagers, most spots had the Bucks favored by 2.5 points with a total of 99.

-- Boston is playing without Gordon Hayward, Kyrie Irving and Marcus Smart.

-- Brad Stevens?s team is ranked third in the NBA in scoring defense, limiting opponents to 100.4 points per game. The Celtics are second in FG percentage ?D? (44.0%) and first in defending the 3-point line (33.9%). They?ll need improve in this area in Game 4 after Milwaukee buried 16-of-33 (48.5%) from long distance in Game 3.

-- VegasInsider.com's Chris David leans to the Bucks in Game 4 and has an opinion on Boston?s team total. David said, ?Boston was one of the NBA?s best road teams this season before dropping its last three regular-season road games. The Celtics had not lost back-to-back road assignments before then, but now the C?s have lost four in a row on the road. They?ve scored only 93.3 PPG during this span. During Stevens?s postseason career, Boston is scoring merely 96.0 PPG in 14 road contests. I like the Celtics? team total for Game 4 to go ?under? 100.5 points.?

-- Antetokounmpo is averaging 28.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocked shots per game in the series to date. He?s hit 32-of-51 FGAs (62.7%) and knocked down 3-of-6 treys.

-- Before losing at Milwaukee in Game 3, Boston had gone 4-1 SU and 5-0 ATS in its five previous head-to-head meetings with the Bucks.

-- The ?over? is on an incredible 18-2 run for the Bucks, who have seen the ?over? go 23-18-1 in their home games. They?ve watched the ?over? cash at a 49-35-1 overall clip.

-- The ?over? has cashed in seven consecutive Boston games to improve to 46-38-1 overall and 21-20-1 in its road assignments.

-- Sportsbook.ag has Boston as the -190 ?chalk? for its updated series price. The Bucks are the +165 underdogs.

-- Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Eastern on ABC.

**Golden State at San Antonio**

-- Golden State (61-24 SU, 37-47-1 ATS) will go for the kill shot Sunday afternoon at San Antonio. The oddsmakers are expecting the Warriors to deal out broom treatment. As of Saturday afternoon, most betting shops had Steve Kerr?s squad listed as a 6.5-point favorite with a total of 203.5. The Spurs were +260 on the money line (risk $100 to win $260). For first-half bets, Golden State was favored by 3.5 points with a total of 103.

-- Golden State is 30-12 SU and 19-23 ATS on the road this year.

-- Golden State took a 3-0 series lead by capturing a 110-97 win over San Antonio in Thursday?s Game 3 at AT&T Center. The Warriors took the money as 3.5-point road favorites against a Spurs club that was playing without their head coach, Gregg Popovich. ?Pop?s wife passed away on Wednesday.

-- Kevin Durant led the way for the Warriors in Game 3, scoring a game-high 26 points by making 9-of-17 FGAs and all seven of his shots from the free-throw line. He also had nine rebounds and six assists. Klay Thompson (19), Shaun Livingston (16), Quinn Cook (12), Draymond Green (10) and Andre Iguodala (10) also scored in double figures. As usual, Green stuff the box score with seven assists, six rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals.

-- In the Game 3 setback, LaMarcus Aldridge scored 18 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out four assists compared to just two turnovers. Tony Parker snapped out of his extended slump, contributing 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. Patty Mills had 14 points and Rudy Gay had 11 points and six boards.

-- Thompson is in a shooting groove here in the early stages of the playoffs. Through three games, the Washington State product is averaging 25.7 points PPG and has a 9/3 assist-to-turnover ratio. Thompson has drained 31-of-49 FGAs (63.3%) and 13-of-20 from 3-point range (65.0%).

-- San Antonio (47-38 SU, 42-41-2 ATS) has compiled a 33-9 SU record and a 26-15-1 ATS ledger at home. The Spurs had won 11 in a row at home, going 9-2 ATS in the process, before losing Game 3. They have been home underdogs five times, posting a 2-3 record both SU and ATS.

-- VI?s David won?t be surprised of the Warriors seal the deal on Sunday. David said, ?Even though the Spurs are often considered the NBA?s best organization, the club has been swept before and a Popovich squad has never won a Game 4 when trailing 3-0 in a series. They?re 0-3 in three such instances and average margin in those defeats has been 16.3 PPG, including a 129-115 loss to Golden State in the Western Conference finals last season.?

-- Popovich will not be on the sidelines again Sunday for Game 4.

-- According to VI?s Kevin Rogers, road teams with 3-0 series leads in last year?s postseason went 5-1 SU and 4-1-1 ATS. Rogers said, ?The only home team to avoid the sweep last season was the Cavs when they forced a Game 5 by beating Golden State in Game 4 of the Finals.?

-- The ?under? is 43-41-1 overall for the Warriors, 22-20 in their road outings.

-- The ?under? is 44-40-1 overall for the Spurs, 21-21 in their home games.

-- ABC will have the telecast at 3:30 p.m. Eastern.

**B.E.?s Bonus Nuggets**

-- Golden State star Steph Curry still hasn?t been cleared for contact. He is reportedly in danger of missing the start of Round 2 while still recovering from an MCL injury to his knee.

-- Philadelphia captured a 106-102 win in Saturday?s Game 3 at Miami. The 76ers, who took a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series, covered the number as 3.5-point road favorites. J.J. Redick led seven Philadelphia players in double figures with 24 points. His two free throws with 16 seconds remaining sealed the spread cover. Miami had two shots on its final possession to trim the deficit, but it missed on both and the 76ers secured the rebounds with three ticks left and dribbled out the clock. The 208 combined points dropped ?under? the 212.5-point total. Ben Simmons had a triple-double with 17 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists and four steals. He made 8-of-13 FGAs. Joel Embiid finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots. Dwyane Wade had another sensational performance in defeat. The Heat?s franchise icon contributed 25 points, three rebounds and three steals in 26 minutes of action.

-- I?m convinced the 76ers are going to win the East.

-- The updated series price for Indiana-Cleveland is the Cavs -115 at Sportsbook.ag. Gamblers can back the Pacers, who overcame a 17-point deficit to win Game 3 at home and take a 2-1 series advantage, at -105 odds.

-- After cashing a winner with the 76ers on Saturday, I?m 10-4-1 in the playoffs for 5.65 units of profit. You can get signed up for winners galore through the Finals with my playoff package

Eastern Conference First Round - Game 4 - Raptors lead 2-1
Toronto at Washington (TNT, 6:05 p.m. ET)

In a complete reversal from what transpired in Game 1 and all regular season, the Wizards? bench has managed to outplay Toronto?s reserves. That difference and homecourt advantage help Washington turn around an early deficit to get back in the East?s 1-8 series with a 122-103 rout. This Game 4 affords the Raptors an opportunity to prove that everything it did over the course of 82 games to be installed as the betting favorite in the entire Eastern Conference was no fluke. Over the past few seasons, they?ve proven unreliable this time of year, reaching just one conference finals in five years despite being a top-four seed each time. This game is vital to keeping the heat off so early in the playoffs.

If they?re going to make a run to finally break through, the Raptors have to prove they?ll be able to win on the road. They?ll also have to impose their will by capitalizing on their depth, an edge that materialized to help make the difference in a 114-106 Game 1 win where they had a 42-21 advantage off the bench. Since then, Washington has a 98-73 lead in that department.

John Wall shook off a Game 1 where he shot 6-for-20 from the field and has been tremendous since, averaging 28.5 points and 13.5 assists while shooting over 50 percent despite missing all six of his 3-point shots. If he gets that part of his game going, the Raptors defense will be in a significant amount of trouble. Backcourt mate Bradley Beal followed up his 3-for-11 no-show by tying Wall with a game-high 28 points on Friday.

The Wizards will be a confident group as they take the floor looking to extend their playoff home winning streak to eight in order to get even in this series.

BookMaker.eu opened Game 4 at a pick ?em while most Vegas shops opened Toronto -1 and as of Saturday, the Raptors are -1 ? across the board and as high as -2.

While the early action believes Washington?s effort in Game 3 was a fluke, Chris David of VegasInsider.com warns bettors to be careful of backing the Raptors.

He explained, ?There?s no doubt that Toronto is a serious contender and this team built the second-best record in the league by winning at home (34-7) and dominating teams with losing records (35-2). On the road, the Raptors were solid (25-16) in the regular season but they were only 8-12 against playoff teams. Including Friday?s loss, Toronto has dropped five straight to playoff squads and the defense has allowed 118.4 PPG.?

?The book appears to be out on Washington in the playoffs. Fade them on the road and back them at home. Going back to last postseason, the Wizards have won seven straight home playoff games (5-2 ATS) at Capital One Arena. Since 2014, Toronto is now 5-15 SU and 6-14 ATS on the road in the postseason,? added David.

Toronto hopes to have one of its most consistent bench performers available as backup point guard Fred VanVleet hopes to return from a shoulder injury that has limited him to just three minutes all series. If he?s unable to play, Delon Wright will continue to get extended minutes despite shooting just 5-for-17 over the last two games after being the x-factor in the opener with 17 points.

Washington?s Mike Scott has shot 18-for-24 from the field and has averaged 15.3 points, so his emergence has been one reason that the over has prevailed in all three contests.

The teams have combined for at least 120 points in all three games, topping out at the 249 they tallied in Game 2. The total here opened at 219 and has settled at 218.5 late Saturday.

Eastern Conference First Round - Game 4 - Pacers lead 2-1
Cleveland at Indiana (TNT, 8:35 p.m. ET)

The supporting cast surrounding LeBron James is so thin that point guard George Hill?s lack of availability in the second half of Game 3 helped contribute to an epic collapse that saw the three-time reigning Eastern Conference champs blow a 17-point second-half lead in Indiana.

Hill is listed as questionable due to back spasms after playing in only nine second-half minutes as Cleveland squandered a 57-40 lead, falling behind in the final few minutes and losing 92-90 when J.R. Smith came up short on a heave just inside halfcourt despite other open teammates appearing to have better looks.

LeBron James didn?t throw any of his teammates under the bus despite getting little help for the third straight game in a series that has seen Kevin Love play through an injured thumb and all of Cleveland?s key midseason acquisitions wilt amid the playoff spotlight. James is averaging 32.7 points, 11.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists but has been unable to count on anyone but Love and Hill for veteran contributions.

Smith has struggled. Korver has shot 28.6 percent from the field, and although he?s 4-for-13 from 3-point range, he?s come up empty from beyond the arc in Games 1 and 3. Jeff Green was a awful in the opener but has been better of late, while neither Jordan Clarkson, Rodney Hood nor Larry Nance has emerged in the manner James hoped when the roster overhaul rejuvenated the Cavs in February.

There appears to be no cohesion between the best NBA player of the current generation and his younger teammates, but all isn?t lost because James is definitely firing on all cylinders, which includes shooting 6-for-12 from 3-point range after missing all four of his long-range attempts in the series opener.

The Pacers have to feel confident in their ability to keep Cleveland?s supporting cast from finding a rhythm since they?ve had Victor Oladipo, Thaddeus Young and Lance Stephenson really put in the work on defense. A victory here would give them three opportunities to put down the Cavs, potentially ending a second LeBron era in Cleveland in the process.

Indiana opened as a 1-point favorite, but the game has since been bet down to a pick?em. If Hill can't play, Clarkson might move into the starting lineup, but it's more likely that veteran Jose Calderon would get the call after sitting out entirely on Friday night.

The ?under? has cashed in the first three games of this series and VI?s David believes the low side is the right lean again.

He said, ?Even though both these teams have shown offensive flashes throughout the season and even in a couple quarters of this series, the defense outshined the offense in this particular matchup. Plus, those units have been helped by the fact that the Cavaliers (31%, 67%) and Pacers (33%, 70%) have been terrible from both 3-point land and the free throw stripe. Another factor helping the ?under? has been the pace, which has been super slow. Both clubs are averaging 76 field goal attempts and that?s ranked last in this year?s playoffs.?

Including Friday?s outcome, the ?under? is on a 6-1-1 between the pair and Indiana has now seen the ?under? go 25-15-2 at home this season.

The total in Game 1 closed at 212 ? and is now down to 205 ? for the fourth installment.

Sunday's NBA Playoffs betting preview and odds

The opening round of the 2018 NBA Playoffs continues Sunday with a quartet of Game 4s, including the Warriors looking to finish off the Spurs and set up a matchup with the Pelicans in the confernece semi finals.

Boston Celtics at Milwaukee Bucks (-4.5, 204)

Celtics lead series 2-1

The Milwaukee Bucks clamped down defensively to get back into their first-round series with the Boston Celtics, and they'll try to even the best-of-seven matchup at two wins apiece when the teams play Game 4 in Milwaukee on Sunday. After allowing an average of 116.5 points in the first two games at Boston - one of which did go to overtime - the seventh-seeded Bucks held the Celtics to 40 percent shooting and forced 18 turnovers in Friday's 116-92 Game 3 win.

TV: 1 p.m. ET, ABC

SERIES PRICE (PER PINNACLE):

2wf4nqc.jpg

LINE MOVES AND BETTING ACTION: Oddsmakers opened the Bucks as 5-point home faves for Game 4, but the line is already moving in the opposite direction and down to the current number of -4.5. According to our consensus the Bucks are seeing the slightest of edges with 52 percent of wagers on them. The total is seeing more action, since opening at 206.5 it is down to 204. Despite this, the Over is the prefered play here with 61 percent of wagers on it, indicating some sharp play on the Under.

ABOUT THE CELTICS (57-28, 52-31-2 ATS, 46-38-1 O/U): With three young players - Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Terry Rozier - making their first career starts in a road playoff game, jitters and anxiety seemed to play a role as Boston fell behind 27-12 after the first quarter. The trio combined to go 11-for-27 from the floor in the loss but they committed just one turnover combined after the opening quarter.

ABOUT THE BUCKS (45-40, 35-45-5 ATS, 49-35-1): The Bucks were no slouch at the other end of the floor while shooting 57 percent and making 16-of-33 3-pointers. Jabari Parker managed only two points on 1-of-7 shooting in the two losses at Boston, but he recovered in a big way back home with 17 points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal off the bench in Game 3. Giannis Antetokounmpo had his streak of consecutive 30-point playoff games snapped at four but he was 8-of-13 from the floor and is shooting 62.7 percent while averaging 28 points in the series.

MATCHUP CHART:

117emxk.jpg

TRENDS:

* Celtics are 7-1 ATS in their last eight games following a ATS loss.
* Celtics are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings.
* Over is 7-0 in Celtics last seven overall.
* Over is 12-3-1 in the last 16 meetings.

Golden State Warriors at San Antonio Spurs (+7, 203.5)

Warriors lead series 3-0

The Golden State Warriors cruised to wins in each of the first three games in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs and will look to sweep the San Antonio Spurs out of the postseason for the second straight year on Sunday. The Warriors, who visit San Antonio for Game 4, knocked the Spurs out in the Western Conference finals last spring and are trying to do the same two rounds earlier this time around.

TV: 3:30 p.m. ET, ABC

SERIES PRICE (PER PINNACLE): Off the board.

LINE MOVES AND BETTING ACTION: The Warriors opened Game 4 as 6-point road favorites and were quickly bet up to the current number of -7. That's not surprising considering the Warriors are seeing 64 percent of the wagers according to our consensus. The total remains at the opening number of 203.5.

ABOUT THE SPURS (61-24, 37-41-1 ATS, 41-43-1 O/U): The Spurs were without head coach Gregg Popovich in Game 3 and he is expected to miss Game 4 as well following the death of his wife. All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge is trying to carry the team in the continued absence of superstar small forward Kawhi Leonard, who is away from the team while rehabbing a quad injury, and he turned in his second straight double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in Game 3. Aldridge is trying to find some help on the offensive end, and veteran point guard Tony Parker came off the bench and enjoyed his best game of the series with 16 points in 17 minutes on Thursday. Fellow point guard Patty Mills is stepping up as well and averaged 17.5 points in the last two games after scoring five points in Game 1.

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (47-38, 42-41-2 ATS, 40-44-1 O/U): Golden State watched Kevin Durant and Shaun Livingston exit late in Game 3 after rolling ankles - neither injury is considered serious - and is still missing All-Star Stephen Curry (knee), so taking care of business in Game 4 is the priority. So Golden State is getting it done at the defensive end, limiting San Antonio to an average of 96.7 points in the series, and the defensive effort of All-Star forward Draymond Green is the key. Offensively, Golden State is leaning on Durant and Klay Thompson, who is shooting 63.3 percent from the floor and 65 percent from beyond the arc.

MATCHUP CHART:

2v9pwcx.jpg

TRENDS:

* Spurs are 0-5 ATS in their last five games overall.
* Warriors are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings in San Antonio.
* Over is 5-1 in Warriors last six games following a ATS win.
* Over is 5-0-1 in Spurs last six games following a ATS loss.

Toronto Raptors at Washington Wizards (+1.5, 218.5)

Raptors lead series 2-1

The Washington Wizards decided to get physical with the Toronto Raptors in Game 3 and it worked, giving the Wizards a chance to even their best-of-seven first-round series when the teams meet for Game 4 in the nation's capital on Sunday. In a game that featured five technical fouls and plenty of chippy action, the eighth-seeded Wizards routed the Raptors 122-103 on Friday to pull within 2-1 in the series.

TV: 6 p.m. ET, TNT, Sportsnet One (Toronto), NBCS Washington

SERIES PRICE (PER PINNACLE):

2lkqnfr.jpg

LINE MOVES AND BETTING ACTION: The Raptors hit the board as 1.5-point road favorites and have been moved up to -2 at some shops. The total has yet to ove off the opening number of 218.5. Bettors are giving the edge to the Raptors in Game 4 with 55 percent of wagers on the road favorite. Bettors are also expecting a high scoring affair, as 61 percent of backers are on the Over.

ABOUT THE RAPTORS (61-24, 45-39-1 ATS, 44-40-1 O/U): The top-seeded Raptors received 23 points from DeMar DeRozan and 19 points and eight assists from Kyle Lowry but their vaunted bench struggled to shoot 10-for-29 with none of the seven reserves scoring in double figures. That unit is usually led by backup guard Fred VanVleet, but he missed his second game in the series due to a bruised shoulder and is considered day-to-day. DeRozan and Lowry combined for eight of Toronto's 18 turnovers and they know that taking care of the basketball is paramount against a team that likes to run.

ABOUT THE WIZARDS (44-41, 38-46-1 ATS, 39-44-2 O/U): The Wizards finally got the performance for their dynamic backcourt that they needed. John Wall and Bradley Beal scored 28 points apiece for Washington, which shot 55.3 percent overall and scored at least 30 points in each of the first three quarters. Beal, who averaged 28.8 points in four meetings with the Raptors during the regular season, produced a total of 28 through the first two games of the series before breaking out Friday. all added 14 assists in the rout and he is averaging 26.7 points, 12.7 assists and 2.7 steals in the series.

MATCHUP CHART:

2z71lzp.jpg

TRENDS:

* Raptors are 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games.
* Wizards are 0-7 ATS in their last seven games following a ATS win.
* Over is 5-0 in Raptors last five vs. Southeast Division opponents.
* Under is 4-0-1 in Wizards last five games following a ATS win.

Cleveland Cavaliers at Indiana Pacers (+1, 205)

Pacers lead series 2-1

The Indiana Pacers battled back from a 17-point deficit to win Game 3 of their first-round, Eastern Conference playoff series over the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the momentum is entirely in their locker room moving forward. The Pacers will try to take advantage of that momentum and push the advantage to 3-1 when they host the Cavaliers in Game 4 on Sunday.

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, TNT, FS Ohio (Cleveland), FS Indiana

SERIES PRICE (PER PINNACLE):

14470v9.jpg

LINE MOVES AND BETTING ACTION: Despite clearly outplaying the Cavaliers for the majority of the first three games, oddsmakers and bettors are still puting their faith in LeBron and the Cavs. Game 4 opened as a Pick and quickly moved to Cavaliers -1, with Cleveland seeing 54 percent of wagers according to our consensus. The total hit the board at at 205.5 and is down slightly to 205.

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS (51-34, 32-52-1 ATS, 39-44-2 O/U): The Cavaliers were 40-0 when taking a lead into the fourth quarter this season prior to Friday. Superstar LeBron James often finds himself on an island with inconsistent production from his teammates, and he was one of three Cleveland players to score in double figures in Game 3 while finishing with 28 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists. James is 12-0 in his career in first-round playoff series and is trying to instill a sense of urgency in the Cavaliers.

ABOUT THE PACERS (50-35, 50-35 ATS, 32-52-1 O/U): Indiana, led by small forward Bojan Bogdanovic, stunned Cleveland at both ends of the floor in the second half of Friday's Game 3 and held the Cavaliers to 33 points after the break. Bogdanovic scored a season-high 30 points on 11-of-15 shooting and went 7-of-9 from beyond the arc, including a four-point play late in the fourth quarter, while playing solid defense against James. Indiana held the Cavaliers to an average of 90 points in the first three games. Pacers All-Star SG Victor Oladipo is 3-of-16 from 3-point range in the last two games after going 6-of-9 in Game 1.

MATCHUP CHART:

154y16e.jpg

TRENDS:

* Cavaliers are 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall.
* Pacers are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning SU record.
* Under is 6-0-1 in Pacers last seven vs. a team with a winning SU record.
* Under is 5-0-1 in the last six meetings.

Spurs stay alive vs Warriors behind Ginobili's big finish
April 22, 2018

SAN ANTONIO (AP) Manu Ginobili scored 10 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter of what could have been his final home game with the Spurs, and San Antonio beat the Golden State Warriors 103-90 on Sunday to avoid a series sweep as coach Gregg Popovich remained out following the death of his wife.

LaMarcus Aldridge had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Spurs, but they were willed to the finish by the 40-year-old Ginobili, who has said he will decide in the offseason if he will return for a 17th season.

Kevin Durant had 34 points and 13 rebounds for the Warriors, who can wrap up the series in Game 5 at home Tuesday.

Popovich missed his second straight game after his wife, Erin, passed away Wednesday following a prolonged illness. Lead assistant Ettore Messina led the Spurs again, but to a much different showing than in Game 3.

BUCKS 104, CELTICS 102

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 27 points, including tipping in the go-ahead basket with 5 seconds left, and Milwaukee beat Boston to tie its first-round playoff series at two games apiece.

Boston's Marcus Morris missed a 14-footer at the buzzer with Khris Middleton's hand in his face to seal a nail-biting win for the Bucks.

Seconds earlier, the 6-foot-11 Antetokounmpo jumped and reached up with his left arm around Boston's Jayson Tatum to put back Malcolm Brogdon's missed layup for the game-winner.

Game 5 is Tuesday night in Boston.

Jaylen Brown had 34 points for the Celtics, while Tatum added 21. Tatum's 18-footer with 52 seconds left gave the Celtics a brief 100-99 lead.

WIZARDS 106, RAPTORS 98

WASHINGTON (AP) - John Wall took over down the stretch after Bradley Beal fouled out, having a hand in 10 of Washington's last 14 points and finishing with 27 points and 14 assists as the No. 8 seed Wizards came back to beat No. 1 Toronto and even the Eastern Conference first-round playoff series at 2-all.

The game was tied at 92 with about five minutes left when Beal - who led Washington with 31 points - drew his sixth foul on a play in which he and DeMar DeRozan collided while Toronto had the ball. Beal raced along the sideline, put his hands on his head, then returned to the Wizards' bench area and threw a red towel before being restrained by teammates.

The Raptors went up by two, but Wall pulled the Wizards even with a layup that drew a goaltending call, then put the hosts in front to stay by feeding Markieff Morris for a layup off the glass. As the final seconds ticked away, Wall held up two fingers on each hand. Yep, it's 2-2, and the home team has won every game so far.

Toronto will host Game 5 on Wednesday.

DeRozan started 0 for 6, before winding up with 35 points, six assists and six rebounds. Kyle Lowry scored 19 points for Toronto.

Monday?s 6-pack

? Giants? 1B Brandon Belt had a 21-pitch AB Sunday that took 12:45? he fouled off 16 two-strike pitches, before he lined out to RF. 21-pitch AB is a major league record.

? Spurs 103, Warriors 90? San Antonio staves off elimination, now trails series 3-1

? Bucks 104, Celtics 102? Milwaukee hung on after leading by 16 at the half.

? Penguins 8, Flyers 5? Pitt advances to 2nd round; not a lot of defense here.

? Indians 7, Orioles 3? Under is now 8-1 in games at Camden Yards this season.

? Cubs? 3B Kris Bryant was hit in head by a pitch, left the game in Denver Sunday, but was said to be OK.

Quote of the Day
?What I would say to him, I would tell him to play for himself. Because he?s the one out there putting in the work, he?s the one out there getting up in the morning staying committed to the game??his career is about him; it?s about whatever he wants to do and however he feels is right for him.?
Kevin Durant, talking about Bucks? star Giannis Antetokounmpo

Monday?s quiz
How many current major league baseball teams share their stadium with an NFL team?

Sunday?s quiz
Before last night, Dallas Braden was the last Oakland A?s pitcher to throw a no-hitter, in 2012.

Saturday?s quiz
Of 30 current major league general managers, 13 went to an Ivy League school.

**************************

Monday?s List of 13: More football notes as Draft Week starts??

13) The 2018 schedule was announced Thursday night, the best option out of 59,031 possible schedules that the league?s computer produced.

12) FOX is doing Thursday Night Football this season; apparently they asked the NFL to move some of their prime Sunday afternoon games to Thursday, and that happened.

Vikings-Rams, Packers-Seahawks, Eagles-Giants, Saints-Cowboys are all Thursday night games this year. FOX?s Thursday night ratings should be pretty good.

11) No teams will play on the road following a Monday Night Football road game; that happened five times last year, and teams complained about it.

10) Eagles-Jaguars play a 9:30am ET game in London, which means the poor ticket takers in Las Vegas casinos (6:30am there) probably have to be at work by 5:30am. No bueno.

This is the first time ever the defending Super Bowl champ will play in England.

9) Jets-Lions is a Week 1 Monday night game in large part because Ed Sheeran has a Sunday concert at Ford Field that week. Sheeran?s concert tour forced 8 NFL games off of Sunday dates.

8) According to Sports Illustrated?s Peter King, last year the Giants were not pleased with their schedule because they felt they were too often playing teams more rested than they were- they were -22 in ?rest disparity?, at one point playing consecutive games vs teams coming off their bye week. This year, no team?s rest disparity is worse than -11. (Giants? is -7)

7) NFL will play two Saturday games in Week 16?but they haven?t been announced yet. That is also Christmas week, but the four teams won?t be told their games will be played on December 22 until Halloween or so. Those two games will undoubtedly involve contending teams.

6) Packers-Patriots in Week 9 is just the second meeting between Rodgers-Brady as starting QB?s. Green Bay beat the Patriots 26-21 in 2014, with Rodgers throwing for 368 yards, but he was hurt when New England beat the Packers in 2010.

Rodgers didn?t start in the 2006 Packer-Patriot meeting, but replaced an injured Brett Favre in 2nd quarter of an easy New England win.

5) Jon Gruden has been out of coaching for nine years; he?s spent most of that time on Monday Night Football, so fitting that his return to the sidelines is the Week 1 Monday Night Football nightcap against the Rams in Oakland.

4) If you were advising Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield and he told you he wanted a camera crew to follow him around for four months before the draft, would you have told him that was a good idea or a bad idea?

Apparently there is going to be a documentary made about Mayfield?s path from his bowl game last January to the NFL Draft in Dallas. Would be fun to know what his prospective employers think of that.

3) ?Every game I?ve seen him play, he?s been the best player on the field.?

Thats an AFC GM talking about Louisville QB Lamar Jackson, who to me will be the most interesting player to follow at the draft Thursday-Saturday.

2) According to a video on NFL.com, Green Bay has the toughest schedule in 2018 and Houston has the easiest. Of course, injuries will drastically change all that as time goes on, but the NFL Network has to have something to talk about between now and the draft on Thursday.

1) Denver Broncos signed free agent punter Marquette King, so they traded their old punter Riley Dixon to the Giants for a future conditional draft pick.

The opening round of the 2018 NBA Playoffs continues Monday night with two Game 4s, featuring the Rockets in Minnesota taking on the Timberwolves and the Thunder in Utah against the Jazz.

Houston Rockets at Minnesota Timberwolves (+5.5, 219)

The franchise's first home playoff game since 2004 gave the Minnesota Timberwolves all the juice they needed to steal Game 3 and get back into the first-round Western Conference series against the top-seeded Houston Rockets. The Timberwolves will try to ride that wave to an even best-of-seven series when they host the Rockets in Game 4 on Monday.

Minnesota shot 50 percent from the floor, 55.6 percent from 3-point range and handed out 29 assists against seven turnovers in Game 3 while rolling to a 121-105 win. "The fans were absolutely insane," Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns, who enjoyed his best game of the series with 18 points and 16 rebounds, told reporters. "When you have fan support like that behind you, anything?s possible." The Rockets won an NBA-high 65 games during the regular season but could not match the intensity of Minnesota with the crowd behind it. "They played with a little bit more emotion than we had, a little harder," Houston coach Mike D'Antoni told reporters. "Especially in big moments, they came up with either a stop or a score or something. We didn't battle enough to overcome the crowd and emotion that they had. Give them their due, but we need to play a little bit better and harder."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, TNT, AT&T SportsNet Southwest (Houston), FS North (Minnesota)

BETTING ACTION AND LINE MOVES: The Rockets opened as 5.5-point road favorites and as of Sunday night that number has not moved. The total hit betting boards at 219 and has been steady on the opening number.

ABOUT THE ROCKETS (67-18 SU, 42-42-1 ATS, 34-50-1 O/U): Houston star James Harden scored 29 points in Game 3 to bounce back from a 2-of-18 shooting effort in Game 2 but shooting guard Eric Gordon continues to struggle. Gordon, who averaged 18 points during the regular season, is putting up 10.3 points in the postseason on 28.2 percent shooting and is 6-of-26 from 3-point range. "Offensively, we weren't pushing it at our pace," Gordon told the Houston Chronicle after the Game 3 loss. "We stooped to their level, playing slow. Of course, everyone will say that we missed a lot of open shots. Both teams are going to do that. It's all about creating the pace."

ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (48-37 SU, 39-43-3 ATS, 46-38-1 O/U): Minnesota All-Star swingman Jimmy Butler averaged 12 points in the first two games of the series and attempted a total of 17 shots but was a different player in front of the home fans. Butler exploded for a team-high 28 points on 10-of-19 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, and added series highs of seven rebounds and five assists in the win. "I can tell you the last couple of days that I got tired of my teammates telling me to be more aggressive," Butler told reporters. "I took it upon myself to do just that. They are used to me being aggressive the past seven months, so don't switch it up now. I did that. I did my job."

INJURY REPORT:

Rockets - PF L. Mbah a Moute (Early May, Shoulder).

Timberwolves - C J. Patton (Out For Season, Foot).

Oklahoma City Thunder at Utah Jazz (-5.5, 210.5)

The Utah Jazz stole homecourt advantage in their best-of-seven first-round series against the Oklahoma City Thunder with a win on the road in Game 2 and made sure they held onto the edge with an emphatic win in Game 3. The Jazz will try to ride their hot-shooting backcourt to a 3-1 series advantage when they host the Thunder in Game 4 on Monday.

Utah went 28-13 at home during the regular season and treated their fans to strong Game 3 effort that included a triple-double from point guard Ricky Rubio and a double-double from shooting guard Donovan Mitchell. "The atmosphere was tremendous," Jazz coach Quin Snyder told reporters after the 115-102 win. "We're grateful for our fans and that they were that engaged. It has an impact on our players. They've been like that all year, and I think tonight they hit a new high. We know and appreciate what we have with our fans. It's not something that we take for granted, but we've come to expect it on some level." Rubio's triple-double mostly came while he was being guarded by reigning MVP Russell Westbrook, who promised to tighten up the defense in Game 4. "He made some shots," Westbrook told reporters of Rubio. "Too comfortable. But I'm gonna shut that (stuff) off next game, though. Guarantee that."

BETTING ACTION AND LINE MOVES: The Jazz opened as 6-point home favorites for Game 6 and early betting action on the Thunder pushed that number down slightly to -5.5. 56 percent of early consensus selections are on the underdog Thunder. The total hit betting boards at 210.5 and has yet to move.

ABOUT THE THUNDER (49-36 SU, 35-49-1 ATS, 38-47 O/U): Westbrook, who averaged a triple-double in each of the last two regular seasons, finished with 14 points on 5-of-17 shooting, 11 rebounds and nine assists in Saturday's loss but also committed eight turnovers. "Just gotta take what's given," Westbrook told reporters. "I'm getting myself jumping in the air trying to look back to find (Paul George) and (Carmelo Anthony) and other guys on the floor. I've got to stay in attack mode and read my first option and go with that." George, who dubbed himself "Playoff P," scored a team-high 23 points in Game 3 and is averaging 25.7 points in the series.

ABOUT THE JAZZ (50-35 SU, 45-40 ATS, 41-43-1 O/U): Rubio collected 26 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in Game 3 and is averaging 20.3 points in the series - up from a regular season mark of 13.1. "He?s a great player who turned it on at the right time for us," power forward Derrick Favors told the Salt Lake Tribune of Rubio. "A lot of people are surprised by the way he?s shooting and the way he?s playing offense. But the guys saw it all the way back in training camp. He was hitting shots, making plays, getting to the rim, making plays for other guys. He?s played great for us." Mitchell continues to play great for the Jazz as well and is averaging 25.7 points in the series with a pair of double-doubles.

INJURY REPORT:

Thunder - SG A. Roberson (Out For Season, Knee).

Jazz - SF T. Sefolosha (Out For Season, Knee).
