when i start my computer, it loads, then a blue screen comes on saying registry error and a bunch of other stuff really quickly, then restarts

it gives me the option to start my computer in safe mode, which I do, but safe mode doesn't have audio and limited video

im not very computer savvy, is this something that can be fixed?

If it is just registry errors (and that's a big if), and you can start in safe mode WITH networking. Try downloading a registry cleaner software.
I've used SlimCleaner Free before with pretty good results.

It's sort of a hail-mary as your computer could be suffering from a variety of problems I am not aware of, but if it is just a registry problem created by spam or a virus, this might fix it.

And I will also add that there is a 1% chance any registry changes done by a software like this could make your computer unusable, and force you to reinstall windows from scratch.
But there are times where it is worth the gamble.

Yeah it's hard to install complex programs in safe mode ( I should have thought of that).

My next step would be to run a system restore. GO to safe mode and start up the system restore. Pick a restore point from a date you remember windows working properly.

Depending what version of windows you are running, you should be able to find System Restore by searching for it when you click start. Otherwise go to Control Panel and it should be under Action Center or Backup And Restore.

because it is loading up ok in safe mode and most people don't use msconfig to limit startup items, before running system restore, in safe mode i would go
start button
run (or search bar)
type msconfig then enter
click ok to elevated admin level
click startup
click disable all
click apply
click ok
click yes restart

see if it loads up normally

Josh,
I'm currently attempting a restore, and it has been at a startup repair screen for the last 10 minutes saying attempting repairs...

Should I wait till it's done or just cancel it and try what you recommended?

greg...welcome back....i had the same issue with my old dell(and it was annoying as hell)......kept getting the blue screen and kept having to restart...then it started freezing....

honestly,i`m not computer savvy either..and i never really solved the problem....had a computer friend of little weasel`s check it out(and suggest a new hard drive..thought i had encountered some sort of malware or virus))...he made some adjustments and it was o.k. for a little while and then had the same issues...i zapped the dell and norton a.v. and got a hewlett packard with mcafee...it`s been a peach ever since(i know jack will come in here and rail on me about norton... humor him:lol: )......

not much help, but i had very similar issues....my computer was old and i just shitcanned it....hope you have better luck....

Glad to hear it's back up and running. System Restore is a good, safe option, especially dealing with registry issues. I would recommend adding the registry cleaner Fek suggested or ccleaner which I use.

I'd still recommend disabling some of your startup items through msconfig or in ccleaner as they don't need to run every time your computer starts.

If it's the free version of Avast, I would uninstall, then reinstall.

Try Malwarebytes if you want to scan for a virus - Sounds like the TMDTP Virus to me - Sorry man - Hopefully not , but all signs point to yes

Good Luck

I would reboot to see if that solves the problem

Make sure you are connected to a network first - Bottom Right Hand Corner - 2 Computers and a earth icon. If you are, I would right click - disconnect - then reconnect
