another question, after uninstalling and reinstalling avast, i cannot connect to the internet through any browser
any suggestions?

I got one. Once you uninstall Avast, stop right there. I was having problems with my computer last year, and everything revolved around Avast. Once I got rid of it, everything was fine. If you have been renewing the free version several times is when they start jacking with ya. Uninstall and reboot, and I bet you'll see a differance.

I"m using Panda, and have zero problems.

Good Luck

when i start my computer, it loads, then a blue screen comes on saying registry error and a bunch of other stuff really quickly, then restarts

it gives me the option to start my computer in safe mode, which I do, but safe mode doesn't have audio and limited video

im not very computer savvy, is this something that can be fixed?

stop lookin at so much porn:nono:

Gregg: Have you downloaded Malwarebytes? MajorGeeks.com has it. I suggest you DL ASAP and see if it catches anything before it takes over again.

I'm running a full system scan on avast, then gonna run a boot time scan, then I'll download malwarebytes

thanks for the tip

And to answer above, I'm stubborn in that I paid for avast so gonna let it run it's course and then probably switch to a different virus protector

Malwarebytes - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/malwarebytes-anti-malware/dl/7/

I'd run TDSkiller too - It is fast and checks rootkit startup items
http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.exe

Ccleaner
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner
at the link above - click this button

combofix -

Then click ComboFix Download Link

One thing I would recommend is running a check disk to make sure that none of the startup files are corrupt. This can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours so run it when you're  You too Jack
1 start
2 computer
3 right click c: or main hard drive and select properties
4 Click Tools Tab
5 Click check now under Error-Checking
6 Make sure Automatically fix and Scan for/fix bad sectors is checked.
7. Click Start - It will popup and say it can't run, would you like to schedule it to run the next time you restart your computer.
8. Click ok or yes.
9. Restart - At restart it will say that it is about to run a Chkdsk, make sure you don't press any keys or it will abort the scan.
10. It doesn't pop up a report when finished but it does save a report in the event viewer. Not a real need to look at unless problems persist.
