We were attacked in 1941, last I checked. At least that's what the public knew at the time. We were not attacked by a nation this time. We were caught with our pants down by a couple dozen soulless zealots who didn't like the way we protect Israel and our other Middle Eastern interests. The goal of this war is to protect the country against another small group of zealots, and it's highly questionable that invading and occupying nearby nations is the way to do that.

The nation is far harder working in 2004 than it ever was in 1944. Try getting someone to work the overtime hours, travel the businessman's schedule or sacrifice their family time sixty years ago the way Americans do now. It would have never happened.

Well Nick,
Even though I was not alive back in the era of the 40's and 50's - I would go back in time to live and work in an environment when people actually worked hard to get themselves ahead and lived in a community oriented environment.

The majority of the workforce today is lazy, irresponsible, and completely unrealistic in what they expect their employers to do for them.
I will safely say that the large majority of "problems" and "hardships" that citizens "suffer" from present day is self inflicted overblown drama of normal routine actions and choices.

People didn't have to work overtime back then because they got to keep more of their salary... because they were not donating it to the poor mistreated lazy bones of today's world in the form of welfare and community development programs.

Back then it was "give a little, get a lot"
today it is "don't dare give anything because everybody else is going to get it"

marine,

That is rediculous rationale. People weren't working as hard because they got to, "keep more of their salary"? Do you realize how retarded that sounds? We all play on relatively the same playing field. Higher taxes (which I am sure is what you are referencing) for me means higher taxes for you, too.

Let me guess, SixFive and Friesz, you see yourselves as hard working individuals surrounded by lazy oafs looking to do as little as possible for their paycheck? Well, I've got news for you. If that were true, then you'd move up. This myth of undiscovered genius that people have when they fail in some aspect of their life is one thing that ticks me off about Americans, not their alleged (and totally unsubstantiated) laziness.

There are places where you'll find large groups of hard working people without a bunch of lazy bums sloughing around for a paycheck. You want to know how to find them? Look for LIBERALS. If you don't believe me, then try breaking in to bastions of liberalism like Hollywood, the media and advertising. All industries where they chew up the lazy and spit them out with a quickness, and all industries dominated by liberals. If you want to find conservatives, then hang around the lazy folks in the corporate world.

I post every play I make and a relative indication of the stakes provided the game is at least five minutes away from start time. I don't post the real stakes because they are too large for the majority of gamblers to play responsibly. You could probably count only about a dozen other gamblers here who post in a similarly honest fashion.

Nick, you really are a good, honest person who stands up for what they fervently believe. I don't agree w/a;lot of your views but for the friggin Love of Mike, it always sounds like you are talking down to the unwashed masses. I, and others I'm sure, appreciate your candor and openess, but NICK- you have about as much in common w/the average grunt as you do w/ a Sunni. Chill out. Ask Marine- most in the military are Pro-Bush and THEY HATE CLINTON! Thats the overwhelming impression I get from all I contact. War is Hell!

Damn Nick- You go to USC, your girlfriend is a babe& you have everything to look forward to so keep a stiff upper lip. What the f*ck are you goinna do down the road when you face a real dilemma? You have as bout as much of a chance of going into the military as I do of winning the lottery.

Look@ all your friends here like BahamaMaMa, Fletcher, Nolan, etc. Fawk!, my wife is Thai, Intense Operator's girlfriend is Mexican, Dogs wife is Chinese& your girlfriend is Black. Nobody else gives it a second thought, but you. And, to boot, you're worried about some pervert who posts anonymously on the Internet named FUZZY NUTS. BeanDip's schtick is hilarious- while not take it for what its worth. (He probably thinks IO's girl should be doing his lawn, Dogs wife his laundry, Oy works in a massage parlor& Chioma a maid - hold that thought* )

Sorry for the rant but I got off of graveyards and I had a few too many- or maybe not enough.

:chairshot *stares@ the keyboard w/mouth agape* I' plan on drinking the last of my brew and attacking the wife. I'm done.

Oh yeah...mmmm *awkward silence* do you have any pix of Chioma in a maid's outfit?

Nick,

The fabled liberal hollywood and all those people in that town.... that area resembles medievial fuedalism more than it does liberalism. If you would like to explore that topic and have me prove it to you, just say the word and I will put it up over the weekend.

And yes, I will stand proud besides the rest of my statements, and other statements that the work force today is lazy.

I work in the recruiting/staffing/employment industry.
And I do it in Washington DC.

Nick, the workforce today is lazy, insufficient, and unrealistic. A minimum of 10 times a day I have someone being offered a temporary assignment but they do not want to take it because it will screw up their unemployment bennies. That's right, rather than take a job for an actual income for 2-3 months, people will turn it down, because it is too much work for them to refile the unemployment claim 3 months later.

Wash DC was 90% democratic turnout in the past election. Why are there so many lazy people here Nick?

And yes Nick, they got to keep more of their salary because there were less % of deductions taken out of their paychecks. People felt proud to work, because when they worked, they got a nice paycheck to feed and house the family. Not give it away to Guadalupe down on the corner shaking his empty starbucks cup for change.
So yes, they got to keep more of their paychecks.

Friday afternoon I am going to walk up and down the streets of DC and ask every coin begging bum I see what political party they like better.

Now granted, they work hard shaking that soup can for change, but .... why are they not working?

suddenly this thread belongs with the debt-taxes one.

i agree a lot with the the conservative view about welfare, unemployment, etc. i'd love to see higher base wages, with an elimination of most welfare and unemployment.

people aren't lazy - but they'll take what the government gives. it's the american way to take advantage of everything you can. some of them WORK HARD at obtaining the freebies. right or left don't have a monopoly on that - "greed is good" applies to all.

however you add it up - it's not like the working class is doing well. the gap between rich and poor is at it's greatest since the 30's. most of us feel this frustration. it's already evident in the christmas shopping season. middle class spending was flat, while highest end gift buying is up. with proposed influx of more foreign low wage earners and uncontrolled outsourcing - i'd expect the middle and lower class working people to get squeezed worse and worse.

Once again the complaints are coming from guard/reservist in Kuwait who have yet to see any action.
I think Rumfield missed his chance in his reply--he should have been more diplomatic with a very easy solution.
He should have said--"fine if you are that adamant about riding in vehicles with total armor protection you won't have to.We got lots of ground troops on foot with only helmet and body armor who would love to swap places so we'll just swap assignments--OK?

DJV
"They deserve a good plan and the best equipment we have for all. Not just half. We are now over 1000 dead and 10000 wounded. Almost Half those wounded are missing arms or legs or both. Hard to believe but those are numbers given out yesterday."

Would you mind sharing the source on data on wounded? If there is source I'm quessing it is same liberal media that put out the 100,000 Iraqi civilians killed which was proven totally erronious.

The closet report I could find to yours was---
http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/21BD3CB9-4173-4FFE-A8F1-D190D7805FF0.htm

--and while their wounded totals were a little less than yours they did fail to mention as you that 1/3 of deaths were non combat.
--As I told you before when you click on link to Algezzeera don't forget feedback link on left margin--their getting tired of New York Times reprints and looking for more liberals in their support.:)

Smurf Reason I chose Chinese wife was because after 50 years of never marrying I understand I am very set in my ways and it would take very special person with lots of understanding tp put up with me and her nature fits the bill pefectly--and as marine remarked a year back--The better reason to marry is not so much that you are head over heels in love with them--but preferable because they love you. :)

smurphy, when you JOIN the military it's your JOB to follow orders and not QUESTION anything your asked to do. You can't speak out about what you feel is an injustice. I was court marshaled for getting sunburn so bad I couldn't work. The charge was destroying government property. I got out of the service because of all the bull shit. The person asking the question didn't know better but look what as happen since. The people are doubting our Army and a pull out you don't want!!!!!

No, dinglenut, that's not how I see myself at all. I know good and well that I don't have to work as hard now as I would have in 1941. I do work hard, and I see plenty of people working hard right beside me. HOWEVER, there is no way this society works hardy than they did 60 years ago. I don't even want to go into the plethora of examples that I could. I would have also have lived through the depression, and frankly, I've never had strife in my life compared to the "greatest generation". Chan is right on target. You are so out of touch it is frightening. Someone has taken over the body of the BM that I knew and possessed it with a liberal talking head that makes no sense. Are you possessed or something? I'm not kidding, and I'm not trying to be humorous. You need help.

You guys must be mad. Of course there are lazy liberals. There are probably more lazy liberals out there than lazy conservatives. And of course many people in America have an undeserved sense of entitlement. It would be stupid to deny those things.

That said, this characterization that America was some hard working, lowly taxed utopia sixty years ago is ludicrous. Present day America is a far broader empire and it takes money to invade Middle Eastern coutries, hire mass numbers of airport security personnel and support friendly nations like Israel that are seemingly constantly under attack. Either you raise taxes for those things or you don't grow as a country.

Technology = more work for all people. That's real. You may be glad that you get to log on to a computer instead of waking up at dawn to milk the cows (and be done for the day by about noon, I might add), but work is work. Americans work more hours per capita now than ever, and it's not even close.

As it concerns white women, it's not that I don't like them, it's that the ones I met at USC and in the corporate world were below my rediculous standards and, to be honest, none of them really wanted me (imagine that :)). Plus, everyone knows that Jews have a thing for black chicks.....
