Alright I pegged the Euro 2020 winner, and the World Cup winner on futures on previous tourneys. Without going back to reference I think Italy was 12-1 , and Argentina was 8-1 when I played them. Let's see if we can do it again. Now, obviously the overwhelming favorites are England, and France but the odds are short. I am digging for value , and hoping these teams can make it to the Final 4 and than things will get fun.
DUTCH +1600 - Every major tournament the people of the Netherlands wait with baited breath for their team to finally bring home the prize. From a value standpoint I think 16-1 is a little too high for this team. Let's not forget that just a year ago they took the eventual World Cup Winners Argentina to the limits in a thriller. A few bounces either way and they would of made it to the Semis. The Team is anchored with what is arguably the most solid back line in football lead by Virgil Van Dyke. The coach has a deep roster to choose from with the likes of Ake, De Light, Frimpong and Dumfries making up the defensive core. These guys are a fortress in their own end. There is the old adage Defensive wins championships, see Greece about 20 years ago lol. They got toughness and speed on the flanks. The midfield will match up well with anyone. Again they are deep and have world class all around Koopermeiners, Xavi Simmons, Wijnaldum, and a number of others that would fill out the starting line up of many international squads. They leave a bit to be desired up top, but I think Dutch have enough to go deep. My gut says they show out nicely. I will absolutely take my chances at 16-1 that they can go deep and make this bet interesting in a few weeks time.
Portugal +900 - Again , there are several teams ranked above them but this team is DEEP. There is class all around, and they had a fantastic qualifying campaign. They play in a weak group with Turkey, Georgia and Czech. Given their recent International form, group pairing, and star studded line up i would expect Portugal to top the group, and get a favorable path into the Quarter Finals. I think at this number there is some value in playing the Portugese.
Honorable mention goes to Germany at +550. I think they get a boost at home, and they got a number of young studs. They were a bit inconsistent lately, but have picked it up recently. The odds are a little short for me, but I think they have the potential to have a great tournament.
