here's a first... the headline appears to be a little misleading. at least per the article, "The bill also would ban “prop” bets on the performance of college or amateur athletes, such as how many passing yards a quarterback will rack up during a game."

also, of course, your thread title is misleading. do you write headlines for yahoo? clearly this bill is limited to college sports.

so it's not banning all sports betting. nor is it banning all betting on college sports, just prop bets. i don't know about everyone else here, but i rarely bet prop bets in college sports.

and, yes, please get rid of the advertising.

This is a "no brainer", I don't know any other Country in the World where you can legally do this. I mean I am sure they are some out there, but not many. Way tooooo easy to pay off some 17 year old kid to miss a free throw, or whatever. And then you have social media where these kids get bombarded with threats and bribes and all kinds of other stuff.

Oh and there are already States that don't allow prop bets on this, and they have done the right thing.



And for the record, here in Canada, the "in game ads" got completely out of control and something had to be done, it got to the point where you couldn't even watch a NHL game because of all the ads. Something had to be done, and it was. Now they didn't get banned completely, but advertisements had to be decreased dramatically, and it was the right thing to do. The bill above goes too far in banning em completely, but you can't have 50 million ads all over the place, it just gets annoying.




Seems like most of the stuff in the bill is good stuff. Also, I didn't know legal Sportsbooks in USA even took credit cards as payments? That just seems like a hassle, if I ran a legal Sportsbook I wouldn't deal with credit cards anyway. It is 2024, there are millions of ways to fund now, so why deal with those scummy credit card companies?

As I mentioned in my reply, here in Canada it got completely out of control, new laws were passed at we are all better for it. I do disagree that it should be banned completely (like cigarettes), that seems a bit of an over-reaction.

Colorado, Arizona, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania and Oregon have rules prohibiting prop betting on college athletes. Iowa, Illinois and Connecticut do not allow college athlete prop bets involving in-state teams.

The measure also would forbid the use of credit cards to fund online gambling accounts.

The Democratic legislators say sports betting, now legal in 38 states plus the District of Columbia, has increased gambling addiction and other problems. Every moment of every game is a chance to gamble, Tonko said.

The bill would prohibit operators from accepting more than five deposits from a customer over a 24-hour period, and check on a customer's ability to afford depositing more than $1,000 in 24 hours or $10,000 in a month.

The bill also would ban “prop” bets on the performance of college or amateur athletes, such as how many passing yards a quarterback will rack up during a game.

i see both sides of this. on one hand, i believe in personal accountability. you should know your limits, and you should also know if you consistently lose, maybe you shouldn't bet. on the other hand, as we all know, this shit is addictive. hell, i've gambled damn near my whole life, starting with flipping quarters at the bus stop in middle school.

so maybe some regulation is in order to help people not bankrupt themselves. i don't necessarily agree with it, but i understand the impetus for it.

and it's hilarious how you try to use this to disparage those damn filthy democrats. what are they guilty of? trying to help people? fuck those bastards! unless you just think they are in the pocket of those huge anti-gambling forces. yup, lot of money coming from the anti-gambling people.
