Mama, Don't know about all Hazeldens, but the one in Minnesota won't accept anyone unless they want to me there. No one can be sent there by a court order or whatever. Agree, the desire to be rehabilitated has to come from within. Alot of the others are just "lock-ups" for a period of time and then you are let out. Hazelden is open for you to leave at anytime so a desire to be there has to come from within. I know of someone here in Minnesota that has also been to Hazelden twice and they would not accept her the 3rd time. Just passing on some info if someone has the desire to go forward with their lives.

mcgruder, i wasn't in any way slamming Hazelden (but, yes, it WAS the one in MN) what i was slamming was my POS ex-husband.....LOL maybe one of his many parole officers said that if he completed Hazelden he'd get off parole sooner or something, so he SAID he wanted to go, but i was always under the impression that they required that he go. (as a matter of fact, he called me last night drunk as a skunk, and up until a few months ago had been sober for almost 2 years)
I have been taking Lexapro for about 9 weeks now. 10 mgs the first seven weeks, 20 the last two. My father has suffered from it and after some stuff that happened last year (worst year of my life basically) he insisted I suffer from it also and should do something about it. I have never been the most gregarious person and have a real bad habit of burying my head in the sand and acting like problems I have doesn't exist. Bad moods also. It seems I have gotten better to a degree. A little more talkative and moods not as dark or as long. It certainly improved my ability to sleep but that was not a huge problem before. Never suffered from anxiety or panic so can't help anyone there. Never took any drugs and don't drink other then two large cups of coffee but my diet is still poor and need to start exercising which would I am sure would help me more in this regard. when i started this thread i never realized it was going to get so many replys !!! and i thank each and everyone of you!!! the last couple days have been rough!!!not as much with the depression but more so with the attacks!! i found myself with a razopr in my mouth cutting my gums because i had a piece of popcorn stuck it in and i was freaking out over it!! last nite i brushed my teeth till the gums bled because they felt dirty!!! tonite im depressed though my friend( female ) had to leave to go take care of a sick relative and im just a fukkin basket case!!!! i should lose ten pounds from all the tears!!!!!!!!! im sure ill be up alnite if anybodys out their!!! i did go to a doc though we talked for 2 sessions but he doesnt prescribe meds!! i have an appt with him tomorrow and another one monday with another one but i hope i can make it that long without meds!!!
Damn AP, hang in there buddy, and find a different doctor, one that does prescribe meds.. Geez man how is he telling u to deal w/it w/o meds. Go on a diet and breath deeply when u get an attack. I have worked w/people that has gotten these and they think they are have a heartattack. Hang in there buddy things will get better!
How is he a Doc with no meds? And you told him all the anxieties? And the extremes you are dealing with? Hang in there and get a Doc IMMEDIATELY at an ER of a Hospital with trauma ER!!!!! I sell cardiovascular monitors to hospitals and outpatient surgicenters and you have got to get a grip on this quick or the diastolic pressure is going to kill you or render you impaired first with stroke. Where exactly are you? I can get my FL rep some heads up to help you. He's off tomorrow and Friday as am I for March Madness but will be checking my Blackberry for messages from you and him.
I guess he's going to a Psychologist (PHD) and not a Psychiatrist (MD). AP's regular general practitioner/doctor should be able to prescribe meds along with the counseling with the Psychologist.
