Total absurdity, there are much better D2 and 1-AA coaches out there, hell a few D3 coaches are better. (Mount Union or Whitewater) Very sad that a program like the Vols hire a loser like this because of daddy's name.

I ain't buying it either. He was responsible for all of LSU's recruiting when Saban was there, but I just don't get it.

The thing is - no one is expecting anything, so he can only go up:mj07:

I am also open for becoming another fan. Will start taking bids at any time:142smilie

Dooley, 41, is 17-20 at Louisiana Tech with a 12-12 record in the Western Athletic Conference. Tech went 8-5 in 2008 and won the Independence Bowl. Dooley has a law degree from Georgia and a bachelor's degree in government and foreign affairs from Virginia, where he played receiver.

Dooley is the son of legendary Georgia coach Vince Dooley. Derek Dooley coached under Nick Saban as recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach from 2000 to February 2003, then was named special teams coach and running backs coach for the 2003 and 2004 seasons. Dooley followed Saban to the Miami Dolphins where he was tight ends coach in 2005 before accepting the Louisiana Tech job in 2006.

Dooley came highly recommended by Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, who was thought to be one of UT's first targets. Muschamp, however, decided to stay at Texas.

Jury is going to declare a mistrial and revisit this in three weeks after signing day.

He has a great deal of class, which we haven't seen in over a year.

He was on staff with Saban for many years and was asst. head coach and recruiting coordinator for LSU back when they had the #1 recruiting class two years in a row. Followed Saban to the Dolphins and then was set to be on Saban's staff at Alabama when he decided to get HC experience.

Took La Tech to it's first bowl game in 8 years the year before last and beat N.Ill in the Indy Bowl and had a win over Miss St. Was 4-8 this year which included a 24-16 loss to LSU after being up in the third quarter.

It is interesting that he said that he would probably look better to most people if he stayed with Saban and was the recruiting coordinator/asst. hc at Alabama instead of leaving to take over a program at La Tech to get experience. What I couldn't believe is that he was also AD in addition to being HC. Division I school must just as low budget as you can get.

Maybe Cie or some of the LSU guys can provide more insight on this guy. He seemed impressive in the press conf, much more so than Kiffy did at USC but that is probably not saying much.

I guess we'll find out in a few years. I was impressed with his press conference. If I remember correctly, Pete Carrol was the 3rd or 4th choice at USC. I think he worked out ok.

i heard that saban gave dooley a very high recommendation & am willing to give the hire the benefit of the doubt because of it....he may surprise all of the critics which i will be hoping for since i like to see people succeed in the face of criticism....

Dooley is very highly thought of in these parts. Of course, Vols play Bama every year, so I wonder if Saban is just setting them up:mj07:

Saban told Dooley that he has to tank it for the first three years.:mj07: Don't think that will be a problem at least for next year.

I don't know, but it is nice to have a guy that has some moral standards, class, and is ready to embrace what being here is all about. You think about it, in 30 years there were only two coaches here in Majors and Fatmore. Now, in fourteen months we have our second.

The guy will be well liked because he is a southern gent who has respect for what he has been given the opportunity for.

I have said it over and over and over, that USC will be the one everyone is laughing at in the long run. I never liked Kiffin, I thought he was a good football coach, but so many around here bought into his bullshit and bragging and it was like they would believe anything as long as he wins.

I just cannot do that. I'm going to give the man a chance and if he keeps Lance Thompson and Kippy Brown, I will be all in and see what he can do to salvage this recruiting class. One thing I am hearing is that many of those who were de-committing, are so pissed at Orgeron and Kiffin, that they might come here out of spite alone.

I'm ok with that:shrug:
