I just don't think he is a big time coach who can do the job in all aspects of a head coach at a major D1 school at this point, lot more to doing the job then just being on the field.

The harder part is off the field fund rasing and dealing with a very very big booster club. a school like Tenn. when they have more then a few days can draw in the top coaches in the US, hell they are a bigtime sec school. This hire was made to save the incoming class the best that they could, hell he was 6th guy UT offered the job to, not like they were breaking down his doorfrom the start. just not a big enough name at this point to please UT unless he has 2 10 win seasons and a bcs bid or new years bowl in his first 3 years. IMO

Saban told Dooley that he has to tank it for the first three years.:mj07: Don't think that will be a problem at least for next year.

I don't know, but it is nice to have a guy that has some moral standards, class, and is ready to embrace what being here is all about. You think about it, in 30 years there were only two coaches here in Majors and Fatmore. Now, in fourteen months we have our second.

The guy will be well liked because he is a southern gent who has respect for what he has been given the opportunity for.

I have said it over and over and over, that USC will be the one everyone is laughing at in the long run. I never liked Kiffin, I thought he was a good football coach, but so many around here bought into his bullshit and bragging and it was like they would believe anything as long as he wins.

I just cannot do that. I'm going to give the man a chance and if he keeps Lance Thompson and Kippy Brown, I will be all in and see what he can do to salvage this recruiting class. One thing I am hearing is that many of those who were de-committing, are so pissed at Orgeron and Kiffin, that they might come here out of spite alone.

I'm ok with that:shrug:

Skip,

Good points about this scummy little weasel Kiffin. No class and no accomplishments to speak of except that he drags 2 big names along with him everywhere he goes. It will be easy to hate USC with his smarmy ass on the sidelines. Also, the stuff about Orgeron making phone calls (if true) the guy should be suspended from participating for a year.

Eric - what you have to understand is that this is the worst possible time to try and get a head coach. Options were limited but I talked for two hours last night to a guy that, well, let's just say he was CLOSE to the search committee.

Dooley was actually thought about and interviewed last year. At the time though, he was having a great season for La Tech standards and they were getting ready for a bowl game. The main thing was staff related. That is the ONLY reason Laney boy got the job, because daddy was coming.

UT offered Muschamp and Dooley, that is it. They never even offered Cutcliffe. There were conversations with many coaches, but Calhoun was never offered, Whittingham was never offered, and Sumlin was never offered. These search firms just start texting and calling to gauge interest.

He has great recruiting exp. with Saban and feels he is a better coach now for leaving Bama as an asst. HC and going to a poor program to get HC experience.

As far as dealing with boosters, fund raising, etc - he will blow Kiffin out of the fucking water because he is embracing the UT tradition unlike Kiffin who just wanted to talk about how good he was at USC.

Bottom line, is I am willing to give the guy a shot because he has something you cannot teach, and that is class. That is something this program has lacked for 14 months.

i under stand all that I coached in college&minors for 12years, had 1 person in my family coach d1 fb for 31 years and another still coaches d1 fb going on 18 years so i understand all there is to coaching baseball, fb also hoops at d1 and higher, search firms don't let out names saying they were offerd the job to see what people think, and whittingham was offerd the job he said so in a statement he is not going to risk his by saying something in a press statement that is not true. and cutcliffe was there in a meeting thur night, he was seen there and said to staff that if he were to take job there would be a problem with coaches who are still at UT on contract. which there would be because they would have to fire them and pay them for that, their boss was not fired he left.

He won't be able to do the fund rasing or handle boosters which is major, ranks up there with the wins at a big time school. To handle that type of cash takes major experince, the foundation takes care of grants after it comes in they don't come up with the ideas, that is what bosster club does, and I have seen enough of them to know it can be hell if you don't know how to handle them. he might be a good head coach at a bigtime school someday just don't think he is ready for this job. Only time will tell but not like i don't have a clue to the inner works of bigtime sports programs in college. lot to deal with , anyone can recruit it is all about contacts, money from school and how good a program school has, the other things are what counts when it comes to having one of the top programs in college year in and out.

i also have delt with UT sports, worked 8 camps with Coach D over the years he was there also sent him 7 players and coached a summer with him so i understand what UT sport is all about and what the alumins, school and fans expect there, it is very high standards with major pressure.

He has just as much credibility as Kiffin did/does:mj07:

He served as AD at LT as well, so I guarantee you with a law degree, he knows how to handle boosters with big money. He actually brings a better knowledge than most when it comes to that based on his AD experience.

And I am telling you that Cutcliffe was not here on Thursday, I couldn't tell from your statement exactly if that is what you said, but he was not here.. Cutcliffe is loyal to his staff which I really respect, but if Hammy brought him back with that staff, he wouldn't have made it to the presser. Cutcliffe didn't have to come here because everyone knew him already. It basically whether or not he would coach without his staff at Duke. Media put that out there to buy more time for Hammy to talk with his second set of names like Dooley, Whit, and K Sumlin from Houston.

Kiffin didn't like the boosters, coach's shows, etc never embraced what UT is all about - this guy will. He will do what Bruce Pearl did because he has to.

All those things are of no concern if he doesn't put wins on the board
