- - Foremost and almost exclusive in my capping of Bubba is "implementing" his statement from an interview I caught early this year in which he essentially said he doesn't much care for or do well on courses on which his prodigious and attacking driving doesn't leave him with real advantages hitting into greens with wedges when most everyone else is hitting 8-irons, and their hitting a 4-iron when he's hitting an 8-iron. I'm not surprised to see Bubba finished 12th in his only start at this venue, or that in his 21 starts this year he has 11 starts in which he didn't make it past 36 holes and he also has 4 Top 5 finishes . . . His finish at Oakmont is a testament to his much improved putting this year, and Cabrera's victory there and strong showings there most of the way by Paul Casey and Aaron Baddeley sugggest a course on which attacking driving could be well rewarded despite the brutal U.S. Open setup . . . As Bubba's game matures, this capping approach will probably lose much of it's edge, but it's my guidepost until proven otherwise.

- - He's done very well for me in the past when I've gotten on board, early or late, and rolled with his momentum. And with Tiger very much the story this week . . . - - I'm being stubborn, mainly. My play on him last week noted my definite observation, based on quite a few recent opportunities to view his play and his off course interviews, that "he's in a good place with himself", and the "playoff" lid lifter and the Westchester course looked like a decent fitting combination for a possible reward . . . On Friday of last week I said O.K., his battling performance around Westchester was going along the lines I anticipated, and he's definitely earning my cash again for next week in Chicago. Then Friday night I realized Cog Hill was the 3rd stop in the playoffs, but I'm stubbornly hanging with Camilo here even though I had him penciled in for Cog Hill . . . But then I see a 12th place here on his resume from way back in 2004, so there's the angle that he's built strong connections to the sponsors/locals/etc. from that early opportunity and this will remain a favorite stop of his for years to come.
