Did you ever have something life threatening happen to you?

In 1974 my x-wife and I were vacationing in Acapulco. We were both certified scuba divers and decided to go for a dive in a small 50 foot deep cove near the hotel where we were staying with our two friends Harold and Judy. Using the hotels equipment we started off. About 30 to 40 feet down my breathing got very difficult. Turns out my tank wasn't totally full. I reached behind me to pull the reserve air supply, but no luck, it was frozen and I couldn't release it. I found Harold and singled him that I was out of air with the finger across the throat sign. Harold was on top of things and offered me his mouth piece. We did the buddy breathing routine to the top. I was never really in the panic mode, but it got close.

Mekong Delta

Mekong Delta

New Years eve 1970.

While standing watch, midnite struck.
My Vietnamese counterparts "celebrated" by firing all their weapons into the sky, M-14's, 16's, 60's even $35.00 apiece American taxpayer paid for,"popflares."

I was leveled by a concussion grenade they had thrown in to the air to hear it go "boom"
I was probably 30 feet away guarding a floating fuel depot.

Could have been much, much worse than having my bell rung.

In elementary school at lunch I choked on a Ham Sandwich, I was eating so fast to get outside to play football during recess. The Aides at that time did not do the Heimlich and I was only 9 or so. They were beating me on the back, it was scary, I went home for the day after that. I was panicked

Went to a party in about 1994-1995 or so I was 19 or 20. Deep in the East Texas woods at a keg party at a friends house. A fight breaks out when some guys that were not invited to the party show up. The hostess, my friend, goes to her bedroom, gets her 357 magnum and shoots into the air 5 times and demands these guys leave and tells her friends to get in the house and lock the doors. We were worried about these guys coming back for revenge or cops coming to break up an underage party. Country girls rule :0074 I was scared shitless. We left shortly after. that sobered me up big time...

I was tossed out of a car in a roll over doing around 70 - went through a wooden gate.
Actually I've told this story so many times let me chronicle it from the beginning.

I was a Jr in Highschool the night before a football game. We had a tradition of going out to Gatti's pizza or Furr's as a team the night before games and this was no different, except

1st the kid who was driving had only had his license for three months and it was his first time to drive to pregame meal night.

2nd We stopped at this girls house on the way home because my buddy had a thing for this girl.

3rd The girl kind of blew off my buddy and started fooling around with me.

4th It was my turn to ride shotgun (3 of us) but my buddy was pissed at me and he hopped up front and got no complaints from me.

5th I made my buddy pullover so I could take a leak.

6th A car passed us doing around 70 and dropped the bird out the window. Being young and dumb we gave chase. After the fact we find out it was a buddy of ours in his uncles new car and he reckognized us but we didn't reckognize him.

7th We kept up the chase for 4 miles and had to make a decision on whether to make our turn at the subdivision or keep falling.

8th The car in front of us slammed on their brakes to turn into the highschool and our driver took it into the grass, over corrected when he hit the road and started the flip.

Whenever we talk about it, if we had made one of the decisions above differently we probably would have avoided the accident.

At this point things get a little funny so let me tell you that in the end we all turn out what could be classified as ok.

While we were in our death slide in the grass everything turned into slow motion. I didn't have my seat belt on so I grabbed the drivers and passengers head rest and held on. You only have so fast and one shot to come up with a prayer an mine was, "God, please don't let me die a virgin" As I tried to revise my prayer the roll over happened.

The next thing I remember I'm on my hands and knees. After a bit of a panic I realize that my Lungs weren't collapsed I just had the air knocked out of me. Then I realized I didn't know where the car was. So I start heading back, find a shoe and stick, it under my left arm. Then I come to my lucky Atl Braves hat and stick it under my right arm. I travers over a broke wooden gate, that I would later find out served as my cushion and see the car about 50-75 yards down the road.

I start heading towards the car, with no sign of my friends. I'm within 20 yards or so when I'm interupted by someone saying, "Are you alright." I turn away from the wreck to find a good samaritan has stopped to help us. She tells me that she is an off duty nurse and that she can help us. She briefly begins examing the lacerations around my face, when we hear, "Oh shit, there's a fire" The woman's eyes leave my face and look over my left shoulder. I will never forget how white she turned and no actor could ever duplicate the genuine look of fright that she had. She murmured, "Oh my God, he doesn't even know he lost it." My buddy, had lost his leg to cancer when he was 10, and had been using crutches to get around for the last 6 years. He was our center/nose guard/ deep snapper and also played third base on the baseball team. All of this I explained to the poor nurse who had never expected a kid to crawl out of a mangled wreck and start hopping towards safety. All of this with my shoe was under one arm, my hat under the other, Compressed fracture of the T12 and T13, and a lip that was torn to the nose. Even today I'm surprised that the plastic surgeon was able to reconstruct this handsome mug. :)

I was 12. My mom had sent me to the meat market to get a bag of burgers and some buns. It was two blocks from our house. I pushed the button to change the light so I could cross back over main street and was waiting. The light changed and I started across the street and a man who had the green light pulled out from the side street to turn left (I was on his right). Next thing I knew a woman ran the red light and t-boned his car and shit was flying every where. I ran back to the curb and stood there and watched it all in slow motion. When it was all over his car ended up across the street on the sidewalk and her car stopped right where I had been standing in the crosswalk. Scared the shit out of me and I had no clue what to do. So I waited til it was clear and crossed the street and ran all the way home crying. When I got home I told my mom what I saw and she called the police- which made me cry more because they said they were coming to the house to talk to me and I thought I was going to get arrested. They took me back down to the corner and we went over what I saw. It ended up in court and she was charged with multiple offenses and lost her license and had to pay a ton of fines. To this day when I stand there waiting for the light to change I can see it all happen just like it was yesterday. Gives me chills.

Ruptured appendix a few years ago almost got me. Was home sick with it ruptured inside me for about 5 days before the doctors correctly diagnosed me. Then came a few days in the ICU

About a decade ago was accosted at gun point, but ran away by two teenagers. Apparently they were just goofing off as they didn't take anything from me and didn't chase (or shoot) when I ran.

I had neck surgery. 1 week after surgery I had excruciating pain, and I could hardly even move. I was hospitalized for a week for MRSA  my collar size normally is 16.5. At the height of this infection, my neck measured 26 inches :scared

My outcome could have been a lot worse, but I was deathly sick.

My daughter just got her driver's license 2 weeks ago. It seems like I have had at least 10 near-death experiences teaching her to drive.

No need for clarification here. Regardless of color, the person was a two bit thief pointing a gun at an innocent human being in order to rob him, so I could care less what name he is called. They all apply. What are you going to do if he tells you that it meant nigger and the no good piece of shit was black? Vilify him and call him a racist?

well if that is a term you use to describe a person then yes, you are a racist.

thanks for interjecting your 2 cents though.

i'm surprised youre backing another racist (not really) but it mustve been a hard one for you since your bff jack has said before racism wont stand here.....funny you didnt go on a tirade about how he is hurting the livelihood of the site owner by posting racial slurs on his forum.
