The SEC Network is set to launch on Aug. 14. With Comcast, Charter, Time Warner and Bright House Networks joining AT&T U-Verse, Cox Communications, Dish Network and Google Fiber, the network will be available to 65 million homes when it launches.

DirecTV would add another 20 million to that number. The satellite company currently carries the Big Ten Network but not the Pac-12 Network.

Just got a call from Directv. They stated since MJ'S wanted it, they are signing the deal. Wouldn't have happened without your assertiveness Hedge.

Thanks from Wichita

ESPN and DirecTV reached an agreement Monday for DirecTV to carry the SEC Network when it launches on Aug. 14.

Adding DirecTV will make the SEC Network available in 87 million households.

"With opening day now firmly in sight, we are happy to count DirecTV, the country's largest satellite provider, among our many distributors for the SEC Network," said SEC Commissioner Mike Slive. "The SEC is home to the most passionate fans in college sports and I am pleased to have such a wide distribution by launch date for the benefit of SEC fans everywhere."

The network will be part of the Choice tier in SEC states, according to DirecTV. It is undecided on what tier the network will be available for states outside the SEC footprint.

The first of 45 college football games to air on the network will be No. Texas A&M at No. 9 South Carolina. More than 100 men's basketball games, 60 women's basketball games and 75 baseball games will be televised in the network's first year.

Other programming will include SEC Storied, which will chronicle the history of SEC institutions and players, and a simulcast of The Paul Finebaum Show, one of the most popular radio shows in the SEC.

DirecTV joins Bright House Networks, Comcast, Cox Media, Dish Network, Time Warner Cable, and AT&T U-Verse as companies that will carry the network. Verizon FIOS has not reached a deal yet with ESPN to feature the network
