Okay, okay, so up until last week, no one had heard of this sci fi movie but tonight I'm taking the ladies to see The Ugly Truth, and while they are watching the chick flick, I'm going to pull a loner sci fi... :mj07:

This is supposedly the best sci fi movie in some time:

Synopsis: Genre master Peter Jackson produces this science-fiction film, the directorial debut of Neill Blomkamp. In District 9, South Africa has become a haven for refugees--from outer space. 89% at Rotten Tomato so it looks to be worth attending...

I'm on the fence about see Inglorious Bastards today as well in a double feature...

Anyone seen either? :0corn

The Mist! Oh man, that was one of my favorite Stephen King novels back some 25 years ago. I loved the original and the remake is just as good. The book, was really good.

Another great short story by King, Rage (first account of a story written about high school violence, think Columbine) and the long walk is about a national lottery where 100 contestants walk until the final remaining person is left standing... As they walk if they fall below 3 mph they are given a warning, three warnings and its a rifle shot to the head... go a couple hours without a warning and one is removed... very good book that will certainly make it to the big screen eventually.

Will let you know about District 9 late night.

Hi Woody. I saw District 9 last week. It's pretty good. Insane amount of blood resulting from bodies getting blown up. The lead actor(the director of District 9) is really funny and convincing. Definitely worth admission.

Let me know what you think.

Took the wife to Ugly Truth. I thought it sucked. Of course the wife liked that Butler guy. You're not missing nothin'.

Have fun!

should say I am not a stephen King fan, but the long walk is a great short story by him.

only if Tarantino did it, would see it, I mean it is a sad story, and believe hollywood would want a different ending, would kill the story.

perfect example is Running Man, probably his best story, (or one of them), it is short fast paced....but completely different from the movie.... the book was great, however hard to sell a story where not any pure hero, and everyone dies.

will proably check out his latest short stories collection, never read his regular books for the most part.

thanks

i think the best thing king did(thriller-wise)was his early short story collection,"night shift"(jerusalem`s lot,quitter`s inc,the boogeyman,the ledge,strawberry spring).....

never thought short stories could hold my interest.....that book did...

if you haven`t read it,check it out...you won`t be disappointed...i stopped reading king years ago....guess theres only so many great stories in a writer....

So I went to the 2:15 movie now that there are multiple women going which probably means tapas or martinis and discussions about relationships which I could care less about... :SIB

District 9 was definitely different. Was expecting cinematography similar to Cloverfield but wasn't necessarily the case.

Johannesburg (sp?) was a perfect place to portray the movie with the struggles among it's classes in society. You could tell there was a lot of hidden political / ethical / societal class messages in it.

Really liked the alien weaponry... pretty good movie.

Wasn't to the level I was hoping but overall worth seeing if you're into sci fi which I secretly am...

It started off really strong, sputtered, and then wrapped up neatly for the setting of a part 2...

7/10 only because of the flawless CGI and the limited budget... part two will be better with a larger budget and stronger storyline.

lol....joking......

Anybody see the CGI on the new December release movie Avatar, looks like an excellent sci-fi flick and the director is same guy that did the Titanic.

Google it for the Apple trailer.

Saw it yesterday and was quite pleased with my decision to see it. The movie definitely has some political undertones present. Wasn't expecting a documentary style presentation but it worked out okay. I'd recommend the film to a movie buff. :SIB
