It happens all the time. If we agreed that I would pay you all the money in the world if I couldn't find 100 videos of guys skates leaving the ice during a hit and you would pay me one dollar for every video over 100 I could find, guess which one of us goes broke first?

If it were Stamkos who throws the hit this isn't even a story, but because it's Cooke this is gonna spiral out of control. I'm not saying Cooke hasn't earned that reputation, he certainly has. This is just a non story.

Sens fans being mad at Cooke for this is like Pens fans being mad at Steckel for the headshot on Crosby (which I believe as accidental as well).

LEAVE MATT COOKE ALONE FOR THIS PLAY

now i agree... :toast:

And this is exactly the problem with the reaction to the hit on Karlsson. People are painting Cooke guilty on the Karlsson hit because of things he did in the past which is ridiculous.

Again, if Cooke did this on purpose then it was a hell of a no-look shot.

I have played organized hockey since I was 6. In my opinion, Cooke had no intention of injuring him in that manner. If you have ever played in a checking league, when going into the boards chasing a puck and you are behind an opposing player, it is not uncommon to lift one leg after a power stride to facilitate a single skate stride around your opponent. This move also allows you to avoid a tripping penalty, if you watch closely, Cooke's skate would have split the skates of Karrlson and when they go into the boards, Karlson (sp?) would have either stepped on Cooke's skate or he would have tried to turn and Cooke would have taken his skate out from under him. Lifting the leg is a move much like the one in basketball where a defender seems to let the ball handler dribble by him on his left side and he reaches around the opponents back and pokes the ball out with his right hand. Lifting his leg increases his reach.

Anyway, it looked like a clean hockey play to me and would not have been an issue at all if say Toews did it. Also, Cooke could in no way navigate his skate straight to his Achilles while going to the boards like that. Cooke's reputation is the only reason that this play has even been questioned. He is a chippy player with a reputation. Like Rafi Torres.

Hope this helps,
FDC

Penguin if Jack(Johnny Most) Edwards the biggest homer in Hockey says it was a clean hit and nothing wrong with it then it's good enough for...I still hate that dirty piece of shit. On another note just notice the iPad just has Quotation symbol for one side or I'm I totally missing something?

My only questions is this: Why is Cooke even lifting his leg to make the hit? It wasn't like he was taking additional strides - he was just gliding in. Weird!

Thats what I was thinking. I mean it just looks a little odd.

Yes, Cooke's horrible reputation and past history of incidents is the reason many people are skeptical. If a man cheats 5 times, and doesn't return phone calls for a while he is much more scrutinized than a man that has never cheated and might have just not seen the calls.

Cooke has lost the right to the benefit of the doubt.
