throw, never used the word "pitch" in that sense

A lot of people do. Hammer just did, that's why I started this thread.

I hear pitch in place of throw here in New England. My mom uses pitch sometimes. She also used it when discarding cards, "I'm going to pitch these cards", which you also hear British bridge players say.

Here's a very region specific term: "pitch-in" - a word for a potluck dinner. The "Dictionary of American Regional English" reports that Indiana is virtually the only place in the US you hear this usage for potluck. Here the rest from DARE:
