Does anyone seriously watch the NFL draft?

I mean really sit there and watch all that goes on? I get it that everyone wants to know who their team gets and maybe tune in when they are on the clock, but otherwise is this really good TV? Can't say I've ever seen 30 seconds of it live so maybe I am missing out.

I get the feeling this is something ESPN is desperately trying to turn into a TV event even though it isn't.

Also, why does the first round take so long? You know where you pick and yes, trades get made, but otherwise if you pick 10th don't you have a list of 10 players you want and once it's your turn to go to the mic you just select the highest guy left on your list? Can't you do that even if you draft 20th? 30th? Why all the grandstanding?

Does not seem like must see TV to me, and I'm certainly an NFL fan.

I think it's awful TV, but I'm just not into sports the way I used to be. I know there are people that can't get enough of it, but I don't hang out with them.

Got to agree with you.

I have taped the last few.

they make it out like its all suspense and great TV when it can be really boring if most know the first 10 anyway.

I used to sit and watch until the Falcons picked . I would mark thru players off the board and see if I could guess who they would take.

of course with TD picking its been horrific picks.

I thought about not watching it at all and checking in Sunday with who the Falcons got.

no way its worth watching all that mess

I have been following the draft for years....I find it interesting....

But I don't sit in front of my TV & watch it....

I watch it like I watch a football game....

I keep it on in my office & listen to it while I am doing something else....

Tomorrow night I will be in a sports bar with some friends & "watch" it there....

I'm "watching" with a group @ friends house tomorrow night. Assuming a TV will have that on and the rest of the TV will have nba playoffs. I won't follow either closely except when the saints pick

This I understand. If you are at a get together and it's on in the background I suppose that counts as watching it, especially if you are stopping to see your team pick.

I don't think much changes every year, though.
Usually there is a consensus, non surprising #1 that still takes 15-20 minutes to get to.
The Browns screw up a pick, Browns fans rejoice thinking this is the guy who turns it around for them.
Jerry Jones takes the most high profile player he can find regardless of talent.
The Browns screw up another pick, Browns fan start texting friends who are Steeler fans about how great they are going to be.
The Steelers disregard the fact their secondary sucks and take a D lineman that won't play for two years.
The Browns screw up another pick, Browns fans drunk by now start making hotel reservations in the town the Super Bowl is being played.
The Ravens draft the player most likely to be involved in a murder.
Jet fans have no idea who it is they drafted.
Wash, rinse, repeat.

I'll never forget when Eli Manning was drafted by the team he told not to draft him. That was actually pretty funny. I watch the draft but I often flip channels from time to time during the draft.

I watch it...I love it....can`t watch hockey soccer baseball or basketball(might watch the playoffs once in a blue moon)...they bore me(not a putdown to fans of those sports...they just don`t do it for me)....so I get into football and combat sports...

to each his own...

Backintheday.......

Pre Darth-Goodell, we would have a Saturday party , cook-off, 12 hour fiesta.
Brats and steaks on the grill.
Keg.
Snacks and ladies all over the place.

They would go until the clock ran out, two, three rounds, so much fun!!!!! Even if
your team had no 1st round pick , its ok, cause you were getting someone!

Cut to modern times. its a 3 hour prime time shit show.
Pomp. Pump up. Bullshit.
Throw in the jackwagon gasbags like Irvin and Deion interviews its just drivel.
IF your team doesn't have a pick, you lose. Its one round , shit or shinola. Just awful.

WIll I watch it? Yes
Will I DVR it and FF an hour of trite into ~20+ minutes? Yes

So instead of a fun all day beerfest cookout party with ppl coming in and out for 12 hours.
its a turn off my phone for no spoilers , record the 3 hour show, and watch starting at 10EST 60-70 minutes .

THANKS DARTH GOODELL!

they`ve done their best to f `it up in the interest of revenue(it`s a ratings winner so you can`t blame em...ratings are money) by breaking it up into 3 shows(2 in prime time)....

I liked it better when it was a Saturday/sunday event....

yes it is....why else would they extend it to 3 days and make the first two in prime time?...so they can lose money?...

Same reason they televise the Spelling Bee? Or bowling?

I think ESPN is trying exceptionally hard to make this an event but in reality it just isn't going to be.

If you watch it and enjoy it then by all means have fun, I'm not telling anyone what to like. I was just curious if it was really a bigger deal than I thought since every third commercial on ESPN is about it and tons of SportsCenter time is dedicated to it.
