I woke up this morning in a cold sweat, my dream still very vivid. I reached over to find my wife sound a sleep and I seriously exhaled in relief as I put my head back down on my pillow.
The Dream:
It started with me sifting through the back cargo space of an aged version of my SUV. I was seeing everything through this persons eyes which I remember thinking was weird in a way. I usually dream as a third party.
Surveying my surroundings, I was in a back alley way. It had rained slightly and it being early morning, the air was damp and a chill present. I pulled my hands up to my face to see they were caked in grime. My wedding band was gone. I couldn't remember how I'd lost it. I was wearing a white stained t-shirt and jeans so dirty they appeared heavily starched.
At first I thought I was hungry. I've never been so hungry in my life but it was different. The craving was to the bone. I started to shake and lurched over in a spasm. A whispered voice in my head said It's time for your fix. Who was that? I looked around but it was only me and the alley cats. I tried to vomit but it was just dry heaves.
Looking through the back window, I suddenly focused my vision on the reflected man. Simultaneously, I let out a curdled scream. I remembered now, it wasn't a dream. I was a heroine addict living out of my car.
