some people are capable of talking and driving at the same time, and some are not......PERIOD!!! it is impossible to determine who these people are. IMO, it is MUCH safer for even the idiots that can't do 2 things at once to be on a cell phone rather than have a passenger that they are talking to, cuz many people automatically LOOK at who they are talking to in person and that takes their eyes off the road. Talking on the cell phone, at least you can still watch what you are doing. So if you want to ban non multi-talking people from talking on cell phones when they drive, do you also put a restriction on them that says they can't carry passengers? ... if so, that same restriction would have to go to everyone, since we all know that most any IDIOT can get a drivers license!

also, LMFAO at Josh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

talking on one is one thing...punching in numbers or reaching for one while you`re driving is another...

i got t-boned at an intersection....a lady blew through a stoplight.....totalled a a year old nissan pathfinder...back when pathfinders were their high end s.u.v.........i think the fact that it was a well built vehicle saved my life.....

she was reaching for a beeping cell phone.....

obviously, because a car depreciates when you take it off the lot....and the fact that i`m not crazy about gouging anyone and faking more injury than i had,i actually lost money....

it`s obvious that everyone thinks they are responsible when driving and using a cell phone.....but,it`s a major distraction....it only takes a second....

i guarantee you that many more people have been killed or maimed by cell phone using drivers than statistics indicate....

these fricking soccer moms scare the hell out of me...kids crawling all over the place...on the cell phone.....

and while we`re on a rant, why aren`t there mandatory sentences for anyone that flees from police in a motor vehicle?.....2 to 3000 pounds of steel capable of going 100 mph....with a moron controlling the mayhem....

much more dangerous than a gun,imo....

whew....

right on,nole...

gardenweasel..... majorly agree that talking and dialing are 2 completely different issues. and i NEVER answer a ringing cel phone in a car if i have to dig for it.... but hell, it vibrates, so i keep it in my lap....LOL ;) J/K but i DO keep it right next to me, so i know where it is.

as far as dialing goes, if it is NECESSARY, and only NECESSARY to make an outgoing call, i do it while at a stop sign, or a stop light, and still watch for the damn light to turn green. a cell phone is like a keyboard, once you know it, you don't have to look at it to dial!!!

i spend one hell of a lot more time looking in my rear view mirror making sure the kids aren't killing one another than i do looking at a cell phone to make a call....

my personal wish, is that noone that has less than 5 years driving experience be allowed any form of music in their car.

My cell has a headset which I wear in the car plus a driving mode where everything is voice activated so I dont have to ever look away from the road. They can be safe but the problem is the people operating them. My Mom was almost killed by a guy who dropped his lit cigarette on the floorboard and bent over to pick it up and nailed her doing like 65 so WTF ban those too. Its kinda like guns, they dont kill people, people kill people. These soccer Moms scare me shitless too, every one of them driving some huge SUV with 3 or 4 screaming kids. Saw one the other day eating, on the phone, 3 kids watching TV right in the car and the mom just oblivious to the world around her.

On the course!
Some of you are missing a big point. Yes, driving is like anything.......Some are great at at, and some are horrible. Everyone else falls between. I have no doubt that plenty of people can use their phone and drive well enough. The problem comes from the vast majority who can't.

I consider myself a pretty good driver. That being said, I don't use my phone too often in the car. I just have a problem with it. The big issue, and difference between a phone and other mentioned "distractions", is that if you have the phone to your face, you are actually blocking your line of sight much more than you might think. There lies the main problem.

I've seen people on their phones for miles and miles! If the call is that special, it should be given your full attention.

If you have a hands free system, god bless you. If not........"Hang up, and drive!"
