Last night I was at an annual gathering of former college and pro players from all around New England, New York, one from Texas and two from Seattle. We raise money for a number of charities and while we are doing that we consume and incredible amount of food and drinks.
Of course the bitch always manifest itself. And that is "our era of players could beat these present players both in college and the pros." Yea sure thing and if I think hard enough I will be 21 all over again.
But last night a new bitch came to light. "Steph Curry is over rated. He could never play in our era." That is all I heard last night over and over again.
Enough already.
Like it or not Curry is transforming the NBA. The game has been changing now for years but this Steve Curry rise is just incredible. He makes 35 footers like as easy as my 15 footers were to me. You can not stop him. He has the quickest release in the history of the game. You get in his face and boom he hits his jumper before you can react. You can not play off of him. I have seen teams try to play him to one side or the other, double team him, push him to the strength of the defense. Hey nothing works
Not from 15 ft, not from 25 ft and not from 35 ft.
The game has changed. The players are quicker, faster stronger then players from the Bird, Jordan era and every other era. It is a jump shot league now. No longer do you see many 7 footers come in in the fourth quarter to ground and pound the ball inside.
Now you see the big guys coming out at the ends of games and the 6ft 8in guys coming in. The game is faster and more wide open then ever before. This is only the beginning of the new NBA.
Look around at play grounds. What do you see. Not big guys dunking but everybody shooting long jumpers.
Frankly, from a guy who played a lot a ball in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, I like the new NBA.
And this Golden State team; I have never seen a team have so much fun as them. If Curry and team do this for a few more years you are talking greatest ever level baby.
So my friends stop bitching and enjoy!
