I just wanted to say out loud that I no longer work in an office environment.

No more morans to deal with in office!

No more traffic! No more dry cleaning bills weekly!!!

:00hour :00hour :00hour :00hour

In ATLANTA and loving it!!!

Any advice for those that work at home already? Fiance is a drug rep so we're here together in seperate offices at home... may be a problem down the road but enjoying it now!

I worked from home for years and thought i liked it.........but there is a downside.......the refridgerator, the TV, phone call from non business people and the idea of not getting up and leaving the house to go to work and come home to a non work inviorment.........i would never ever do it again........

I have been working from home for about 6 years. I absolutely love it and could not imagine going into an office every day. You have to be highly self-motivated to stay away from things like gambling discussion boards, CNBC interviews, and the fridge.

It's not for everyone. That for should!

My wife is a stay at home mom, so it's very important to establish clear and enforcable boundaries.

We have a "Call the Bank" rule. If my wife is compelled to ask me to do something during the day, she first has to say "yes" to the following question.

"Would you call your dad at the bank and ask him to do this for you right now?"

Even though we are in Tennessee, this does exclude nooners!

Been doing it for awhile now.

Best advice... have some sort of outlet or hobby to do.
Turn OFF the computer and phone when you are not "on the clock"

I've found myself doing the normal work days, then logging back on after dinner and working more, well into the night.... because work has become my "hobby" and i have no social life because i am cooped up inside all day.

draw boundaries with your family and work zone/family zone activities... but also draw some boundaries for yourself and with work.

I do 70 hour weeks and dont think anything of it these days... it really has become sort of a hobby for me. I dont get paid for 70 hour weeks though.
Trade offs - I'm at the top of my game and everyone I work with loves me and thinks I am great. But I have zero social life and have gone for 3 weeks at a time without leaving the confines of my house. Mainly because I am just too lazy to put on pants.

Actually really good responses!

Thanks fellas. I like the rule dawg, and then I'll bring it up tonight.

Marine, I've already noticed a tendency to work through lunch and past "normal working hours" and its only been a few days.

Thanks agiain.

too many distractions for me--don't have temperment for it. I enjoy time at office especially 1st 4 hours when no one is there--get more done in those 4 hours than I could 8 hours at home.

In addition when I leave office--i'm done with work--no phone calls-pages etc. If worked from home doubt that would be an option.

yea... i eat lunch at my desk. i try to make it a point to leave my office for 1 hour at some point to go exercise or something... sitting around all day makes you laaaaazy.

my work hours:
7am - 5pm
dinner and play with kids 5-8
watch 1 hour tv
work from 9pm till 1am again.

of course... once a month or so i just blow things off and work like 8-10am and then fock off the rest of the day and catch back from from 8-10pm.

That probably describes Agent's days perfectly, except for the 'working' part.

Actually, I don't get to wake up when I want since Augusta came along, but other than that......

My wife and I both work all day, so my 1 and 2 year olds are with a nanny from 8 - 5:mad: Just wanted to let you know how fortunate you are to be able to raise your child without having to work.

I appreciate that, I really do. You are absolutely correct! However, it isn't that I/we don't work. We work! However, we made the commitment to raise our child ourselves, no matter what the sacrifice. We have had to change our life completely but it is all worth while. We could both or either be out pursuing far more financially and professionally than we do, but for what? Just a fkin rat race to me. To each his own but there is no way a Nanny is raising my Daughter!

I like your style. I mean, it takes courage to drop what you are doing and change your lifestyle in order to be 'there' for your children. Our options were to have my wife stay home with the kids or hire a nanny. You know the direction that we went in, and it has worked out, but I realize more and more each day how I will NEVER get the time spent away from my kids back.

I totally respect your decision and kinda wish that I had the stones to pull off something like that. All the best to you and yours:toast:

What does being at home and not working have to do with each other?

Clocking in and clocking out does not make one more productive than another. And it doesn't reflect pay scale, either.

Exactly. I work 100% commission. How many have the balls to do THAT? Wouldn't have it any other way, I'm not an office, 9-5 type of guy. Had a salary plus commish job one time and had some office manager who didn't know his ass from a hole in the ground telling me what to do, and when I could come or go. I said FFFFFFFFFFFUK that. :sadwave:
