I can work from home, but I find is nearly impossible due the distractions. This is particularly the case because I don't have an office or study. I am going to build a home next year, and the poolhouse will double as my office. I can hardly wait:00hour

Exactly. I work 100% commission. How many have the balls to do THAT? Wouldn't have it any other way, I'm not an office, 9-5 type of guy. Had a salary plus commish job one time and had some office manager who didn't know his ass from a hole in the ground telling me what to do, and when I could come or go. I said FFFFFFFFFFFUK that. :sadwave:

agree...i want to get paid based on the amount of time & effort i put into my work & not work on a job that offers a salary that is predetermined by somebody else..if i had to go back to work i wouldn't take anything other than a sales job...

DO it! I can't imagine the pain of leaving your kids everyday. Assuming you work 8-5, with even a short commute, you MIGHT get 15 minutes with them in the AM, then you get home at 5:30-ish, unwind, cook dinner, visit your wife, now it's 7:30 or 8 and the kids go to bed. When do you get to see them? I couldn't handle it, I would rather be broke. Have you ever balanced what you pay in gas, and childcare vs what your wife earns? You might be able to find a way to live without that small $$$ difference.

Sadly, all I get with my boys is a few minutes in the am, and a couple of hours at night. If all goes according to plan, by next year at this time, my wife should be part time (2.5 days/ weekly) and I should be working out of the pool house. Life will finally be how it should have been all along at the "Grant" residence.

Add in the second car payments as well. Especially if you make her iron instead of dry cleaning, mow the lawn, make you lunch/dinner :)

My wife owned her own business out of high school so she has no marketable skills and it's a wash based on what she could make, so her being home works for us. I work my ass off but still get home for lunch and dinner and it's working out great.

Wife and I work in offices, could not imagine working from home, too many distractions. I like the interaction I get at work with other people. It would be cool to wear shorts and no shirt to work everyday.

Opposite for me - If i were to work in an office I'd get too distracted. Being at home allows me to focus more on my work.

weird.

I have been wanting to work at home for a while now. To the guys that do, what type of work are you doing? I have googled the subject and its all nonsense. Nothing but scams. Can anyone point me in the direction of something legitimate. Not looking for a get rich quick scheme, just want to make a modest income, legitimately from home. Thanks for your help.

Same here. Inter-office politics drive me completely nuts. You might as well put me in a cage as to put me in an office. Can't take it.

recruiter

More specifically - a sourcer.

My function in life is to go out and find people that would be a good catch for our firm. I spend my days on the phone and internet searching. To put me in a big office with the distractions that go with it would be suicidal for productivity.

I am the same way - when I am in the office, all I do all day is search the web, write letters, pay bills, etc. - anything to not work, but when I work from home, I am much more productive. The only downside to working from home is that I spend a lot less time handicapping games

Been working from home for about 6 months now - spend 2-4 hours in the office per week. Works perfect for me!

As a mother would you pass these wonderful gems of wisdom on to your daughter?

1. Don't imagine you can change a man - unless he's in diapers.

2. What do you do if your boyfriend walks-out? You shut the door behind him.

3. If they can put a man on the moon -- they should put them all up there.

4. Never let your man's mind wander - it's too little to be out alone.

5. Go for younger men. You might as well - they never mature anyway.

6. Men are all the same - they just have different faces, so we can tell them apart.

7. Definition of a bachelor; a man who has missed the opportunity to make some woman miserable.

8. Women don't make fools of men - most of them are the do-it-yourself types.

9. Best way to get men to do something, is to suggest they are too old for it.

10. Love is blind, but marriage is a real eye-opener.

11. If you want a committed man, look in a mental hospital.

12. The children of Israel wandered around the desert for 40 years. Even in biblical times, men wouldn't ask for directions.

13. If he asks what sort of books you're interested in, tell him cheque books.

14. Remember, a sense of humour does not mean that you tell him jokes, it means that you laugh at his.

15. Sadly, all men are created equal.

Been doing it for awhile now.

Best advice... have some sort of outlet or hobby to do.
Turn OFF the computer and phone when you are not "on the clock"

I've found myself doing the normal work days, then logging back on after dinner and working more, well into the night.... because work has become my "hobby" and i have no social life because i am cooped up inside all day.

draw boundaries with your family and work zone/family zone activities... but also draw some boundaries for yourself and with work.

I do 70 hour weeks and dont think anything of it these days... it really has become sort of a hobby for me. I dont get paid for 70 hour weeks though.
Trade offs - I'm at the top of my game and everyone I work with loves me and thinks I am great. But I have zero social life and have gone for 3 weeks at a time without leaving the confines of my house. Mainly because I am just too lazy to put on pants.

Working from home is very nice...

However, I do find myself working more hours

Not having a 45 min drive each way and being able to drop and attend my kids functions makes it all good.

At least you get to take a crap in your own bathroom. AHHH, nothing like the feel of home toilet paper.

I just shut my door to my office when I need to not be distracted or if I need to make a personal phone call, etc. I do not spend too much time surfing the internet, we have big brother watching us.

yea.. but when i do make trips to the office.. it makes me realize how hard it would be to concentrate.. i wouldnt be able to have my door shut because of all the women walking around.. they're frigging amazing.
i'd end up just sitting there and staring down the halls.

I've been a stay at home, work from home dad since 2003. My wife and I couldn't stand the thought of dropping our tricycle motors off at daycare after maternity leave was up. I still work part time during the week and on Saturdays I get out of the house and handle some of my old accounts.

I can usually get all my work at home done (invoicing, preparing quotes, invoice research) during my little girl's naptime. We pick up my son from kindergarten at 2:20 and head to the playground or out to the back yard. It gets tougher handling housework, cooking and time with kids in the afternoon but we make it work. Wouldn't have this any other way.
