Where it is real F ing COLD
I have grown up around dogs all my life. My grandparents ALWAYS had at least 6 dogs and living where I live, taking in stray dogs is the norm.. A few here can see my FB pics of Randy who was a stray and my avatar of my beloved Brooks..

My grandparents had a dog and I do not remember what breed it was but started to act ugly.. Now my grandparents would never treat a dog bad ever but back to this buzzed point. they had a dog that would act the same way protective or whatever. When I was 5 and my sister was 10 this dog got excited and pulled her off the swing and bit her face to shreds just missing her jugular.. I watched in horror as she came to her feet.. What saved her was another dog who protected my sister and got that dog off of her. It happened so fast and the doctors said that if the dog came after me, I would be dead cause I was 5. My sister had to have 5 plastic surgeries to be the beautiful woman she is today,
I know it maybe a bit different but this story comes from a family who grew up and never harmed dogs to say the least. So I would always error in caution as you never know plus if this dogs does worse in the future, the guilt would be unbearable. Thank God, (for my sister), I mean Audie for rescuing my sister.

Maybe dog thought that it was late in the situation where someone was threatening kid that it was "protecting" and attacked ?

When having dog and kids around visitors should be "introduced" to dog when kid is around so the dog knows it's ok to visitor to be near the kid.

I had similar (well, not quite) experience with my friends Belgian Shepherd Dog (malinois). I was visiting them and we bbq'd outside the house and i went inside and heard baby keeping noise at the bedroom, so i was going to see if he's ok. Dog noticed i was directing to bedroom and it came and it just stood sideways front of me blocking my way... I understood that it was not necessary to try to enter... in one piece...

But about the question, imo, put the dog down for good. It has bitten already and it propably doesn't know it did something wrong and will do it again at some point.

u buy a pitbull don't think it is gonna act like a poodle. Some boxers if u feed it a piece of meat they will attack ur arm and then go for the meat 2nd. It is just what the breed does.

Alpha male my ass. I know someone that has a big male boxer. The dog growls and snarls and acts like big shit when you visit. I jump at it and make a fist and it pisses all the way across the living room floor.

That Boxer wasn't an alpha male cause u would have been the one pissing across the living room floor. Most likely shitting.

Woodson, having boxers all my life and having a daughter mauled by a bull mastiff 10 years ago that is some question.I read to my wife your post. She is a member of Boxer Rescue.Have your friend call them and explain what happened. They will give your friend the best advice. They will ask a history of the dog.Was this the 1st time ever, does he always growl when someone gets to close,etc,etc....did you raise him from a puppy,etc.....when ever you adopt a dog from them they are 100% honest about his past and do a great job probing questions. If you go to their site and see some of the boxers..they always give warnings..not good with young children, not good with other pets.....my wife friends is one of the main home sites..when they get a boxer she keeps them for weeks and months before you can adopt one...they also get to know the dog before....and the Boxer rescue people might tell your friend" he
needs to be put down".
When my daughter was attacked by the bull mastiff he had already bitten 2 people and attacked one....he had a hold of her head and wipped her like a windshield wiper for 15 minutes....my wife and son were beating the dog with a baseball bat to no avail. Finally my son ran into their kitchen to get a knife but saw a fire extinguisher. He yelled to my daughter to close her eyes as he sprayed....the spray stopped him and he just stopped panting with blood all over.. I told this story here 10 years ago..to long to explain it all... the dog was put down the next day after he was tested for rabbies..thank god she lived and thank god plastic surgeons re-attached her scalp.......the boxer breed is a great dog....but its the humans that are sometimes the problems....with any breed....
have madjack give you my e-mail..I'll get you the number to call someone...my wife feels if the dog has done this before the " rescue" people might tell you to put him down....I also asked my wife if this happened to us ,after what happened to our daughter, what would you do? Her answer was " probably put him down"....
