The Volkswagon Jetta and Passat have a fairly good track record. I'll try to dig up some stats when I get back to work.

The tight steering seem to be prevalent with the small front wheel drive vehicles. If the vehicle is a 5-speed....you will notice the tight steering even more.

Don't you believe that if indeed the flipping of SUVs was proven to be the manufatuer's fault......the insurance companies would also have a huge payday through the subrogation process.

Well Gator my friend, if you are driving 80 with a child and one on the way, you need some help. If 80 was safe, the speed limit wouldnt be 65.

By the way, if you are going to follow this post up with how tall you are, how tough you are, or how much you weigh, I would be neither impressed nor scared. lol

Gatorbait--

I misread your first response to me. Could you please explain to me how Firstone will prove that it is Ford's fault that the tires separate????????? If you can....then I may begin to understand how all the families that you know of will take that to the bank!

just curious!

From everything I have read, it is most likely going to come out that Ford was the reason for the tire problems, not Firestone. It also didn't help Ford's argument that when they redesigned the Explorer to make it safer they didn't enlargen one the bays which is way there are 7 inch gashes on many of the new tires.

For your reading enjoyment, there is a great article on Ford's misery in this week's Businessweek. The latest recall is going to be a $3 billion recall. Ouch. Largest recall ever for Ford.

The best part of the whole story is the Ford grandson married to the Firestone daughter. And you thought your marriage had issues...

I think everyone should take a special driving test to determine their ability. The better drivers should be allowed to go faster then the uncoordinated ones.

Sat and watch the House committe yack on this for 4 hours last night. It does seem these tires have no problem with the Ford Ranger. But on the Explorer problems develope. Ford gave one spec to Firestone then used the tires on both modles. Ford had no answer as to why tires used on several other auto makers models had no problems. Or very few. It sounds like Ford told buyers to run air pressure in the Explorer 3 to 4 pounds lower then spec. So far score is about 75% against Ford 25% against Firestone.
Long run if the Explorer needs some other help then new tires. It needs to come out. There are so many on the road people need to know. If what I got out of those hereing seems slanted. I tryed to be fair. But they have more work to do. So score can still change.

DJV---

The studies have found that the ratio of Firestone tire failure on the Ranger is about the same as on the Explorer.

Last night over and over this is what was said. Explorer three hundred and some. I cant tell you exact. But the Ranger number was easy to remember 8. Mazda 2, the 4 runner I believe 5, and Grand Jeep what ever model 2. Im saying it as I got info. Hey this will change again. They will have differant folks due more test. They will say something else. Above numbers came from our Gov's indepentent whom ever source. I think Nat Safty Board. Heck I have no idea who tells the truth any more.

DJV--

The reason that there were more failures with Explores than the other vehicles is because there are considerably more explorers on the road than the other vehicles. That is why I was referring to the ratio.

These committee dimbwits aren't comparing apples to apples. Of course there are going to be more mishaps with the Explorers vs. the Rangers b/c there are MORE Explorers on our highways!!! If they're going to make a fair comparison, then they need to do it on strictly a % basis..

I wish they would point out what years. To just say last 6 or 7. I don't buy that either. How many 7 years ago and how many 4 years ago. And I would like those numbers you guys are talking about. In my town those little cheap Ranger pick ups are all over the place. Not everyone has bucks for the explorer. Ford keeps saying they sell more Rangers then anything else. So I don't know what there saying. The other point all those other models from other car companies not haveing to much trouple. Have to think you add them all up has to be good size number. But as we all know because of all the law suits wating. Will we ever no the real truth. Sounds a little like they both have some fault. But if real truth is a flaw in the truck. All owners should be told.
