VEGAS EXPERTS

Colorado Rockies at Cincinnati Reds
Friday, July 25h, 7:05 PM ET

Home is where the heart is for the Reds' Edinson Volquez, who not only is MLB's ERA leader, but is 6-0 in the Queen City this year with a 2.82 ERA. The Rockies are a dreadul road team, posting a 14-36 mark away from home this season, a Major League worst, including a pathetic 5-19 if coming off an Under. A win here gets Cincinnati within two games of .500 for the first time since early June.

Play on: Cincinnati

Colorado (+130) at CINCINNATI Karl Garrett

Underdog winner goes tonight on Colorado.

I know the Rockies have been terrible on the road, but they are within striking distance in the NL West, winning their last pair, and 6 of their last 7.

Colorado hurler Aaron Cook is now 12-6 for the season, and is coming into this one off a home win over Pittsburgh.

Cincinnati will counter with All-Star Edinson Volquez who looks like he may be running a little low on gas these days. Volquez was less than stellar in the Midsummer Classic, and his first start back from the break was a 5 inning, 4 run no-decision at home against the Mets.

Going to go with the Rockies here to spring the upset, as Colorado did go 4-2 versus the Reds in last year's season series, and I like them to get the weekend started off with the upset win tonight.

3♦ COLORADO

LAA Angels vs. Baltimore Orioles (MLB) - Jul 25, 2008 7:05 PM EDT

Play: Money Line: -130 LAA Angels

Joe Saunders has cashed in 13 of his last 19 road starts and pitches in Camden Yards tonight. He's also 5-1 in his career team starts and 8-2 in his career team starts on Fridays. On the flip side, Burres is just 2-4 during July and has dropped each of his last three home starts. With that, look for the Halos to improve to 13-4 in this series against the Birds here tonight as Burres cant wait for July to end.

Houston Astros at Milwaukee Brewers
Pick: Milwaukee Brewers -159

The Brewers have been good to us lately (with the exception of last night), so I'm riding them again. These two teams are heading in opposite directions. Houston is coming off being swept at home by the Pirates, while the Brewers have won nine straight and are coming off their first-ever four-game sweep in St. Louis. As Ryan Braun said, "Right now, our confidence level is at an all-time high."

Houston sends Wandy Rodriguez to the mound to try to "stop the bleeding." Rodriguez owns a mediocre 4.50 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and .350 OOBP on the road. In the last two years, Rodriguez has started four games in Miller Park. The results? Houston is 0-4 as Rodriguez allowed 19 earned runs, 24 hits and 13 walks in just 19 2/3 innings. That's an 8.69 ERA and 1.88 WHIP.

Milwaukee's Manny Parra has been overshadowed by CC Sabathia and Ben Sheets, but he is quietly having a very solid season. Parra is 5-0 (team is 7-3) at home with a 2.87 ERA. Parra averages getting 5.8 runs of support in his starts at Miller Park. He has faced Houston three times this season. His two starts in Houston were not good, but his one start at home (6 IP, 1 ER, 6 K's) was very solid.

The only reason I did not make this a Best Bet is because I can see the Brewers having a letdown after that huge four-game sweep in St. Louis. But they're still worth a play tonight, as they swept the only three-game series at Miller Park between these two teams by a combined score of 19-3.

I'll take the hot hand with Milwaukee.

Chicago White Sox (110)
Fri Jul 25 '08 7:05p

Gavin Floyd has quietly put together an All-Star caliber season for the Chicago White Sox, and he gives them the edge as underdogs tonight vs. the struggling Nate Robertson of the Detroit Tigers.

Floyd has gone 10-6 with a nice 3.52 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 117.2 innings, and a case can be made that he has been the best pitcher on the Sox staff this season, or at least on par with Mark Buehrle. More importantly, Floyd has been brilliant vs. the Tigers in his brief career, tossing five consecutive Quality Starts against them since last year including allowing a total of three runs and seven hits in 13.1 innings over two starts this year! Should Floyd be in need of relief, the White Sox bullpen ranks sixth in the majors with a collective 3.29 ERA.

Meanwhile, Nate Robertson has been terrible this year and is not getting any better, and he simply cannot be trusted as a favorite. He is 608 with a 5.69 ERA and 1.54 WHIP for the whole season and he has a 6.28 ERA in his last three starts. He even failed to last three innings in his last outing vs. the Baltimore Orioles after the Tigers had staked him to a 6-0 lead.

Finally the Tigers, as a team, are just 2-6 the last eight times Robertson has started against Chicago, and given the year that Floyd is having, look for that pattern to continue.

White Sox +110

Atlanta Braves (105)
Fri Jul 25 '08 7:05p

The visiting Atlanta Braves appear to hold the pitching advantage here with Jair Jurrjens facing Kyle Kendrick of the Philadelphia Phillies, so the Braves get the mild upset call here.

Jurrjens is 9-5, and the Braves are 12-7 as a team in all the games that he has started. This from a squad that is five games under .500 overall at 48-53. Jurrjens has not minded pitching on the road either, as he has a 3.16 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in nine starts away from home, and he has allowed a grand total of one run and 16 hits in 21.2 innings in his last three road starts.

Kendrick may be 8-4 for the Phillies, but that is entirely due to great run support as he has a high 4.87 ERA and a terrible 1.50 WHIP in 109 innings. He is not getting any better either, with a 6.48 ERA and dreadful 1.86 WHIP in his last three starts. It does not help his cause that the Phillies are not playing good baseball right now, as they would be on a five-game losing streak if not for a ninth inning rally in the opener of the Mets series.

Finally, the road team is 7-2 in the nine meeting between these clubs this season.
