sorry, i'm not digging into the numbers for this one. i'm betting on 12th-year senior frank harris. after he returned from (yet another) injury, utsa won 7 straight until the conference championship game. they covered 5 of their last 6 before that game, getting backdoored in the only one they didn't cover. harris' numbers were definitely down this year. easily his worst year since 2020. maybe in part because he ran less this year than any year since 2019. his legs are a big part of his game. my guess, and it's just a guess, but maybe they tried to put the brakes on his run game to keep him healthy. if that's the case... then maybe he's going to run crazy tomorrow. he has a lot of incentive to have a big game. he easily could have gone somewhere else for his (8th) senior season. but he wanted to stay here. plus, he is 0-3 in bowl games. in all fairness, he faced some pretty good defenses the last 2 years (and i don't remember how ULL was defensively in 2020, so maybe 3 good defenses). anyway, my hope is we're going to see some vintage harris.

marshall's defense, which was pretty solid last year... not so great this year.

utsa is only missing one key player - edge rusher trey moore. he led the team with 14 sacks.

marshall's qb, fancher, is gone. not a big loss. freshman pennington (i assume he's chad's kid) will start. he played extensively in 3 games late in the season. he completed 62% of his passes with 0 TDs and 6 INTs. he averaged 5.5 yds/att, which is pretty bad. and gets worse if you take out one 65-yarder. that drops his average to 4.8 yds/att, which is terrible.

one more note... marshall turned the ball over 28 times this year. only 2 teams had more. and they got worse as the season went on... 15 TOs their last 5 games.

UTSA 1Q (-3) 3 units
UTSA (-12) 6 units
under (51.5) 3 units

big line movement the last few hours. i'm tempted to double down on UTSA, but it feels like a bad idea. i already have more than enough on them.

quick note on the boca raton bowl... since syracuse is involved, i can't bet it in ny. that said, when i was at BWI last weekend, i put a few bets in. i hadn't even thought about it ahead of time, so i did zero handicapping. and, based on the line movement, i shouldn't have bet it. i'm not going to count these as part of my record, because i was really just throwing darts. but i bet...

yeah, i haven't found any info yet. i'm sure it'll become public knowledge soon, whatever it is.

at least the drop on the total is encouraging. i can cash out now for a $12 profit. :)

this is from 12/7/22....

"UTSA quarterback Frank Harris, who has set more than 30 school records, on Wednesday announced he will be returning for his final season of college eligibility in 2023 and signed a contract with a local group that will compensate him for use of his name, image or likeness."

Well if that's the case we should be ok. I know Pennington starting for Marshall. Don't get it...

nothing new on the utsa football twitter page, or frank harris' page.

i mean, harris is 72 years old. maybe he woke up with a sore back today.
Significant line moves generally important ,so if not a major player development then a shitload of money from somewhere.

yeah, if harris is playing... and he doesn't play well, you almost have to think the worst. did he take a big payoff? what else would drive the line like this?

well, i certainly put the nail in the coffin. i just threw a little more on utsa at -8.

As posted elsewhere, VSIN says Harris is not playing.
where do you see that? i mean, that's the only logical explanation. but i just went to the vsin website and their twitter page, and i can't find any mention of it.

Update 6:00 p.m. ESPN’s Pete Thamel says Harris is out. The spread is down to UTSA -7.5 at DraftKings Sportsbook, with the total at 47.

Toe injury
thank you. and, :mad::mad::mad::mad:.

that's what kept him out of a few games earlier this year. i wonder if he reaggravated it during practice.

well, i guess that is the revenge from the gambling gods. they gave me WKU and Seattle yesterday. they fuck me today.

it'll be interesting to see how this goes. it's possible his teammates really step up and play a hell of a game to send him (and, quite possibly, coach traylor) out a winner. but it's also possible that they come out flat and get their asses kicked. hell, marshall might even come out flat, now that they're not going up against harris.
