ok, so saturday sitting around the BBQ grill with friends... girl who is uber competitive and snobby claims she has been "training hard" for a mini triathelon coming up on 17 Aug.

.5 miles swim
12 mile bike ride
3.2 mile run

I claim that any person off the street can do something that small and complete it - simply a matter of being mentally strong enough to push yourself.

She claims she has been training for 3 months now to get ready for it. Me, on the other hand, well I've maintained a steady diet of hot pockets, pizza, and m&m cookies the past few months.

Wager made: Dan (that's me) will register for tri-athelon on monday and will run it with her on the 17th .

Men start 3 minutes ahead of the women.

For her to win, she must either pass me at some point in the race or finish with a better time overall than me.

To insure that I do not "miraculously train for this" I must buy the bike to ride the day prior to the race - and can spend not more than $150 on a bike.

Dan wins: $300 paid to me
Her wins: I pay her 200$

Coolest prop bet I've taken on in awhile, thought you might enjoy it.

anyone run a triathelon? are they hard?

If she's got a nice bike you are not in good shape. Unfortunately the difference between a good bike and a cheap bike (150 bucks...u gonna be riding a mountain bike??) over 12 miles definitely adds up. You can be sure to be poked fun at iif you do ride a mountain bike in a tri...like "hey guy nice bike"

Best of luck, my $ would be on her :)

the walmart by me has a nice 14 speed road bike for 128. i know enough not to ride a mountain bike.

on the other hand, i will not be splurging and buying a speedo to swim in.

Is it in open water? Where?

If so, you better buy a wet suit.

But a half mile is not a huge swim.

If she is a biker, she will blow past you during that stint.

My money is that you have no shot of winning this bet.

The swim will be in a small lake here in southern WI. Just an "out and back" swim. Wetsuits are not expected to be able to be used.

The lake is small enough that waves are not an issue.

If you are a decent swimmer, I think that's the least of your worries. You need to run a lot in prep for this. GL!

add: Getting hurt while training is very likely for you. I think you can win IF you train and IF you do not get hurt/injured while training.

Friendly wager? Loser pays for the other's golf at the MJ outing?

I'll take the girl if there will be a website to see the official results and we have both participants names beforehand.

Interested, Clint?

I think Bobby Riggs biggest problem may be cramping up. I'd be sure to bring salt pills or whatever you need to keep this from happening. The way you talk about how you handle your finances tells me the small money involved will more than motivate you.

First how old are you ? How old is she? Thats the kicker. If you been sitting around eating pizza and drinking you don't have a chance. I bike 4 times a week average of 25 miles a time I also run. For me to bike 12 miles depending on whether it's hilly or flat about 50 minutes. Running I average 7 1/2 miinute miles thats when I run 10 miles or more. I could probally bring that down to 7 flat for 3 and 1/2 miles in a sprint. Swimming don't know. I can swim but time wise ? I doubt it if you could go heads up with me and I am 61 years old

ok.

Yes, there will be a website that the results will be posted on.

I went for a run this morning - just to get a gauge of how screwed I am.

3miles - 21:40

She does 3 miles in 24:00 currently.

And, I threw up 3 times after I did my run. So I should be lighter now, which means next time I run I will probably be quicker.

Based on what I can find for times from past years events, if you guys are up for wagering amongst yourselves, I came up with what I think is a fair over/under time stamp for me.

will complete course in under/over 1 hour & 38 minutes.
