Sure we must need to pay more. But somehow this stuff goes up faster then any other commodity I ever saw. If theres a hint the barrel price may go up. I swear they run out to the pumps and jack it up.

This is getting outrageous. The contracts just keep on getting bid up at any little news. I have heard all the reasons why ags is so high but it still dosent make sense. We shut down our embassy for a couple of days because of a threat and the shit goes up..The king (or whatever you call him) from Saudi dies..up it goes again. Who cares that he hadnt been in any kind of power for the last few years because of his health. It shouldnt have affected oil prices at all but they are getting bid higher for any little non-event.

I think that Bush can take the blame for starting this. As soon as he said we were going to top off our oil reserves it was a sellers market because you know the US was buying whatever the price was. So the contracts get bid up because of our open wallet. All he had to do was release some oil reserves and slam the govt wallet closed till prices came back down to a more decent level. Then start to replentish them.

Milwaukee was $2.59 today and I saw a station in Illinois that was $2.79. Hold on to your wallets because Wi gas always ends up costing more than Ill after a week or so. That was for the cheap stuff.

Lets offer Bush a way to help everyone. He likes tax cuts even when he has no way to pay for them. So why not do one more. Sure drop the fed gas tax. What is it now 21 cents. And stop putting gas in the reserves for a couple months. I understand that can be worth another 6 to 7 cents. And since there over 85% full they can wait a while to be filled to 100%. We have a way in a year called 06 elections. We need to throw about a bunch of them out.

I guess it's just a coincidence that gas prices have doubled since 3/03?

Coincidence--Let me take WILD GUESS--maybe tied in to cost of oil similiar to back it 80's--is that remotely possible?

I could be wrong --maybe U.S. is only country having to pay more for oil--but if evryone has to pay same price I guess that would make this administration also responsible for their increase in gas prices which they have had also--make sense?? to some maybe :)
---but I don't see "the logic"

Wayne,

Honestly, the price of fuel is issue number 1000 on the list of my concerns in life. It's all relative. Europe has always paid so much more than us and still do. But let's just admit the obvious. The prices would not be this high here if we didn't invade Iraq. You know it and I know it. Spin it however you want.

I think it war plays very insignificant part in price of oil.
Biggest factors in my opinion is supply and demade and lack of adaquate refineries. I am definately no authority on subject so just opinion. If terrorist started hitting other middle east oil production I definately think it would have big impact.

I will say one thing that has me stumped is booming economy and market despite all time high oil prices.Something wrong with this picture and can't figure it out--

I thought this was an interesting read: http://moneycentral.msn.com/content/Savinganddebt/Saveonacar/P98745.asp

djv, I thought about you this morning while watching CNBC. They showed a chart of how much money Americans spend daily on gas. I tried to find a link to it because it flashed too fast for me to catch any quotable data. I think you would have choked on a Cheerio. This chart looked like Google's stock chart! It was awful.

There really is not alot Bush can do to lower the prices of oil since Ronald Reagan deregulated the oil industry when he was President thus the market is now set by supply and demand. China's thirst for fuel is also a factor in the cost for fuel right now and this demand by China will keep the costs up. An article that I read recently speculated that China has been working behind the scenes to convince a couple of key oil producing countries to break away from OPEC and become aligned with China to supply their oil (they speculated these countries were Iran and Brazil) on an exclusive basis.

When I was getting up this morning and getting ready to head out for the day I saw a interesting news piece on the morning news about a company that operates a fleet of twenty vans. It seems that they were getting killed by the rising cost of gas so they equipped all of their vans with some type of device that allows them to run the vans on natural gas which only cost them 94 cents a gallon. They stated that the vans drive no different with the natural gas and they still have good acceleration.

Europe is brought up a lot. But remember they average 7000 miles a year. Our average is around 12500 per car. I say per car because here over 65% of American homes have two. A drivers license is not easy to come by in Europe. Most countries will let you start at age 16 or17. Now comes the hard part. Your first licenses in most countries is 700 to 1000 bucks. So auto industry does not play as big part in Europe's economy as it does here.
Mason as for that tax cut. I don't see where Bush worried about paying for his other tax cuts. Why worry about this one.
We should be lucky like Venezuela, Saudi, Iran and Turkey. There price per gallon is 15 to 30 cents. Same oil we pay 2.75 to 2.95 for. How Come.
Hey i'll pay what ever we must. But this chit of the price of a barrel is up again today run out to the pumps and up it another 5 cents every other day is nuts. That oil does not even get to our pumps for 45 to 60 days. Shall we say screw the public.

djv--I believe it owrks the other way, too, if I am not mistaken. Once prices go down, the price at the pump should reflect it immediately even though the gas in there cost them more.

One of my first jobs was at a service station. I know the price there was the price of gas that day per gallon plus $0.10 per gallon for self-serve and plus $0.20 for full service. I just assumed that this was industry standard, but I am not certain. I am sure that the price added varies from station to station.

So even though they may have paid more (or less) for the gas in the tanks, the price reflected that day's rate. I don't know if this is standard.

Unfortunately, we have not seen the price go down in a while, so the price at the pump continues to rise.

There is no leadership. Cheney's secret energy plan is a sham. These guys are stealing the entire country in the face of terrorism. What a shame.

Gas shot up up 40 cents in Missouri over the past few weeks. It is ridiculous, but I guess $2.39 isn't as bad as alot of others.
