djv--we have gone over this before. they charge what the CURRENT price is. Sometimes that is more than what they are currently paying AND sometimes it is LESS than they are currently paying.

Government-run refineries is about the worst idea I have ever heard on this board. That would be a ****ing travesty and we would be paying $5 a gallon in a blink of an eye because of them ****ing it all up day in and day out.

Dawg what I was saying same company south side of city 10 cents less, then 5 miles away. Of course there station that is higher is next to a I system. It has noting to do what they payed for there supply. They can get 10 cents more by the I system because travelers don't know it's 10 cents less just 5 miles away. I think we know theres some games being played.

Gee i wouldnt even imagine the gas station on the interstate pays more for that location than the one 5 miles away.

Its capitalism and this country is based on that.

Its funny how some dems cant face reality and shut up when we all know we gotta eat it on this type shit.

i worked at an amoco (now bp after the merger) and about once a week the manager would get a fax or talk to someone back in the amoco higher-ups and it was my job to go out and change the prices (not fun by the way) this only happened once a week or very rarely maybe twice a week.....anyways point being i wonder if this was a call made by the higher-ups or a slippery slope deal where local stations saw their competitors rising prices and followed suit for whatever reasons

in indy i was told monday the rack price was 2.75 a gallon and then it was selling on the street for at 2.59. Today i was told rack price was 3.00 a gallon and it is retailing for 3.19 so they are making there money back now, price restoration they call it.

Some business are offering money and help. Large companies are sending help water, blankets, food, bread all free. Others just screw people. No way our gas way up here in Wisconsin goes up 30 cents in 4 days. Sorry thats just wrong here and where you live to.

come on DJV....just think about it...... of course this is gonna drive up prices... where do you think the oil from the gulf is trucked from?? you think those trucks can get out of there now?? (and even if they could, what would they carry???) supply vs. demand is gonna come huge into play. be glad if your area even RECEIVES any supply!!

Balls Deep
I saw gas prices over about a 60 mile stretch in NC today. Each place avg 2.99 for gas, premium at 3.09 and supreme at 3.19. Here in Raleigh NC, there are lines 5 cars deep at many gas stations because others are 100% out of gas. Not a ****ing drop.

Has it gotten this bad already? wtf I just read an article on cnn that it will at least hit 4$ a gallon. At what point do people really say "i can't do this" and a major recession (or worse a depression) hits. How long do you think the recoil is b/w prices and major economic recession?

BahamaMama I know it's going to get tight. State dept guy said today we have 20 day supply on hand. When necessary kick our butts if they must. But some these guys had jumped price before storm had left Florida. And reports of over 40 cents in some place in one day. Hey it could get like 70's. I could only get gas twice a week. But were not there yet. Something just smells. For you young ones that don't know about the 70's. There was 2 to 4 day supply on hand. So we had rationing. And many went back to riding bus.

No you don't have to do anything if you don't want to. And you can be conservative, liberal. Or just someone who does not give a chit at all.

djv...not only COULD it get like the 70's (when i first started driving at thought it was horrible when having to pay fifty cents a gallon) .... but it WILL get like the 70's... stations will have a very hard time getting their tanks filled for a while (THANK YOU MOTHER NATURE) ... beertime was right, we gotta eat it, we gotta DEAL with it.... trucks are gonna be unable to transport the goods we so need in the north... we can suffer without fuel, but thankfully trucks can GET food and water to them.... with any luck, they learned it is a truly unsafe place to live for the long haul and try to take up residence elsewhere before they need help yet again.

Just talked to a friend of mine who runs a big truck stop. He said they try and make 6 cents a gallon, but usually don't. If for example the pump price is 6 cents a gallon over what they paid for the gas that is what they make if you pay cash. If you use a credit card, which he said everybody does, say it is a conoco station they process the card for no charge, but if you use a visa card they charge 2,75% to process the card. This means they are actually losing money on every gallon they pump.
He said they have made as much as 22 cents a gallon and lost as much as 8 cents a gallon.
His cost this morning was 2.92.

On the course!
I talked with an old school mate up here who owns his own station. He said they can add on 6% to what they are charged for their gas.

Some stations now over 4 bucks up $1.50 in two days. Does anyone realy think there being fair. I see more and more of Americas big companies stepping up with food and medical supplies.
