Barrett just ain't that good. If he fights in "lazy mode" as he has done before, it will be ugly. I would parlay the fav with something else.

I think he sucks. Ruiz beat him pretty clearly and got robbed. I saw the fight and even the fans in germany BOO'ed the decision. I hate Ruiz and hope he is gone forever, but he deserved the decision over that slow, lumbering oaf.

You know what bud i didn't see the fight but what you say makes me feel like i watched the fight. Ruiz isn't a bad fighter when he fights but i wish he would go away. Was he holding every two seconds in this fight? If Ruiz beat him pretty clearly than this guy is a stiff.

Although he gives up nine inches to his Russian opponent, Monte Barrett (31-4, 17 KOs), of Queens, will be highly motivated by the challenge. While carving out a solid career, he has never been able to break through for that one marquee victory. Barrett has shown the ability to take punches and put together effective combinations of his own, most notably in his win over Owen Beck, who was undefeated at the time. A victory over Valuev in their 12-round bout would give Barrett a title and the validation he has sought throughout his decade-long career.

I am seeing Valuev at -550 to win.

I think barrett will be intimidated by valuev's size. that's one thing that seems to really help him, beck was scared, and like tyson's opponents in the late 80's fearing your opponent leads to bad things. I have a feeling barrett will fall into the same trap and be blasted out late in the fight.

With Valuev at -550 , how much would I have to wager to win 500 bucks .

OK 2,750 greenbacks.

How strong do I really think that Valuev will win this fight.

Heavyweight fight with a possible showdown with Klithcko. Lets talk about 60 million for that fight for each fighter.

And Don King represents Valuev. Big money involved, hmmm

Maybe that means that Valuev will not lose this fight under any conditions.

Maybe if Two guns brought a axe with him to chop a tree down. Otherwise forget about it.

Sounds simple enough.

I am getting close to be able to make the play.

Still more work to do. Oct 7, 2006

I smell money and it smells green !

Who is the other guys promoter? If it is also King this guy will not last past the first round.

From Wikipedia...

Monte Barrett (born May 26, 1971, Greenville, North Carolina) is a professional boxer. Known as "Two Gunz", the American fighter has been a top rated heavyweight for the past five years, and recently dropped a lackluster decision to WBC Heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman. Barrett is promoted by Don King, and as a result is still heavily in the heavyweight mix. Despite his loss, he will fight WBA Heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev in October at Madison Square Garden in what is being billed as Valuev's "coming out party" to American boxing fans. Monte doesn't have a particularly distinct style or a lot of power, but finds ways to craftily win fights. Prior to his loss to Rahman, he defeated contenders Owen Beck and Dominick Guinn, both of whom were undefeated at the time, to line up the title shot. Monte got off to a fast start in his pro career, defeating his first 21 opponents, prior to dropping a close decision to Lance Whitaker. Monte later was dominated, but showed heart in rising five times, against future champion Wladimir Klitschko. Barrett also later locked horns in a memorable battle with Joe Mesi, which was an exciting see-saw battle in which Mesi almost had Barrett out, but Barrett battled back spiritedly and nearly took the undefeated Mesi out.

Box thanks for the info. If i know Don King like i think i do than he will have this guy take a dive in the first round to build up this circus act. It will look like this seven footer is devastating. I have seen this act before with him. He then probably slides this guy a million or gives him another type of thing he wants. Lets see if this is another one of Dons scripts.

joe mesa there is a blast from the past. I heard all the great things about this stiff and i couldn't wait to watch him. He won the fight i watch and i thought he was awful. The boxing world loves to try to lead us to believe in some of these fighter but if you have an ounce of talent evaluations skills you can see right thru this.
Box im not sure if you ever notice this but you ever watch a fight Jim Lampley does? Oh man i had to tape a fight and study it because i thought i was going blind. Lampley misses everything and then always talks about the wrong guy who delivered the blow. Thank god Roy Jones or Emanuel Steward sit in on some oof these fights to correct everything Lampley misses or is just flat out wrong. I can't stand Roy Jones but i will say he is an excellent boxing commentator. As well as Emanuel.

Its scary Don King is allowed to represent both fighters in a boxing match.

No other sport would ever allow this sort of thing.

What gets boxing a pass on this.

Scott u have to look past it and realize that there is money to be made here. In no way is Don King gonna blow an opportunity to showcase this guy. He will do everything he can to persuade the other fighter to just take a dive. And convincingly at that. If the other fighter has any pride he better knock out the giant because like ruiz he has no shot at a decision. Its just life in boxing.

so what your saying then is that Valuev -550
is a gift ?

yes its a gift that is why the line is so high. its set this high to scare you away. King would never put these two in the ring if he thought this guy had any chance. He is gonna promote this thing for all its worth. He might actually get a fight with Kliztko and watch his giant get destroyed. But he will be the one laughing last with another couple million stash away in one of his many accounts.
