That's not an answer.

How much should they be paid?

Keep in mind, if New York was an independent country, it would be one of the 10 largest economies in the world. Paying the people that govern it $142,000 seems reasonable, especially considering the cost of living in parts of NY.
This pretty much sums it up for me. I don't see your "reasonable" part of giving yourself a raise for poor performance.

Sen.O’Mara released the following statement:State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats)

“New York’s taxpayers live under the highest state and local tax burden in the nation. Families are struggling to make ends meet. Too many small businesses and family farms are barely surviving. Crime is rampant and New Yorkers don’t feel safe where they live and work. Local economies, especially upstate, are stagnant. There’s a fentanyl crisis, an unemployment insurance crisis, an affordability crisis, a public safety crisis, an unfunded mandate crisis, and the list goes on. Yet the Albany Democrats call a special session to make New York the highest-paid Legislature in the nation. One-party, all-Democrat rule has been a disaster for everyday New Yorkers. It’s out of control and it’s about to go from bad to worse in the new year.”

Once again, how much should they be paid? I don't really care one way or another, I'm just saying that $142,000 seems reasonable.

Why is it that when "too many small businesses and family farms are barely surviving" it becomes the government's fault. That's not Capitalism. Are you and O'Mara calling for bigger government or government handouts to help those people/businesses out? The part about Upstate businesses being stagnant is an absolute joke. They had access to the business equivalent of free money loans for years. If they can't survive in the business conditions of the last 10 years, maybe they shouldn't be in business.....that's Capitalism 101.

Can you admit a 29% self awarded raise, considering the conditions now, is just a smidgon on the hefty side.

The starting point is irrelevant, and as I've said a few times now, I don't think $142,000 sounds unreasonable to be a state lawmaker. A 29% raise sounds big if there's no context. In this case, there is context and that's what puts this into the "who gives a shit" category. Are they raising your taxes to pay for it? That would add additional context to where I might change my position.

Do you ever wonder why you get so bent out of shape about things that don't affect you one bit? The state of NY is an economic juggernaut and you're worried about how much money the people that make up the laws make now versus last year.

They tax the fuck out of everything in this state ,their pay comes from taxes,so yes.

Can't answer it any better than that,Riddler.

Christ, if they suggested Andrew Coumo get back pay, you'd be in favor
of it.

Now you're just making stuff up because you know you don't have an argument. It doesn't sound like there is a tax increase coming or needed to pay the increase. You are just mad because they gave themselves a pay bump and that percentage is too high even though you have no idea what the actual going rate is for a state legislator responsible for the 10th largest economy in the world.

Cheney, who lost her Republican primary by nearly 40 points in August, will depart Congress on January 3 and return home as a defeated 56-year-old never Trumper.

Cheney will not depart Congress empty-handed. During her six years in Congress, she has become very wealthy. Breitbart News reported in August that Cheney’s net worth ballooned from an estimated $7 million when she first took office in 2017 to possibly more than $44 million in 2020. Depending on the specifics of her latest financial disclosure form, Cheney’s net worth could have skyrocketed up to 600 percent in Congress.

According to her 2020 Personal Financial Disclosure form, Cheney declared a net worth between $10,422,023 and $44,140,000, stemming from assets valued between $10,432,024 and $44,155,000. She reported no earned income, gifts, or transactions. She did, however, declare she held three posts, including a trustee position at the University of Wyoming, membership of a holding company, and what appears to be a position in her family’s trust.

Cheney’s wealth and social status are enhanced by her husband, Philip Perry, who is a partner at Latham & Watkins law firm in Washington, DC, which has advised Chinese companies.

There are a lot of obvious questions here.

Don’t believe the media’s claims. We are suffering under inflation, thanks to Joe Biden. Nearly every decision he’s made has hurt the U.S. economy. He weakened the value of the dollar with reckless spending. He’s raised taxes, shut down our energy industry, and refused to fix the supply chain.

Most Americans have suffered a pay decrease, because of what Joe’s done. And signs point that it will get much worse in the coming year. So, what does Biden do–after putting so much pain on Americans? He gives people who barely do anything a pay raise!

From Daily Wire:
President Joe Biden granted federal employees a raise as inflationary pressures and labor shortages pinch the bureaucracy.

According to an executive order that will take effect on January 1, federal employees will receive an overall pay raise of 4.1%, as well as an average locality-based pay raise of 0.5%, indicating that some 2.1 million federal employees will receive average raises of 4.6%…

The federal government spent approximately $215 billion in the fiscal year 2016 compensating federal civilian employees, according to a report from the Congressional Budget Office.

The entire civilized world is dealing with higher than normal inflation and the US is actually in better shape than the UK and most EU countries.

Biden raised taxes on those making above $400k. That's it.

Wages are up and unemployment is down. This is a major contributor to inflation but it's also why we aren't in a recession. The supply chain shortages, COVID stimulus packages, free money loans, and energy crisis via Russia invasion of Ukraine are the other factors I can think of off hand.

Who needs facts when you can parrot what the misinformation peddlers are shoveling?
