Don't make me blush.

I can be complete dick on here. Have been for years, no denying that. I'm a very self-aware person.

My livelihood and business hinges on me being mr. happy all day and putting on a smile when dealing with difficult people. Any one of you who deals with the public on a regular basis surely understand that people in general can be difficult. So....after biting my tongue all day for the better of my business I think the suppressed anger manifests itself with an outlet here. In the real-world I'm a decent dude. I've met a few MJers than can attest.

Despite our tit for tat I've got no doubt FDC is a good guy in the 'real world'. Probably the type of guy that is very loyal to friends and would give the shirt off his back. He's an ass on here, but hey, this is just one facet of our lives.

Use Calloway equipment / long enough off the tee / crisp iron play / average short game / poor putter and that alone separates those who can from those who can't / used to have a guy in our foursome who was the best putter I ever saw / he used an amusement park putter and could roll in a downhill five foot side hill slider ten out of ten times and he never missed a three footer / bought five tennis rackets at our local flea market for a dollar / last time I played I wore bib overalls and work boots / I too like ping pong

Thanks for the advice. Talk to me about the hybrids- this is new to me.

They are combination clubs that are a hybrid between a fairway wood and an iron. They are often called rescue clubs. Easier to control than woods and long irons, especially helpful from the rough where an iron can be really tough to get the clubhead through the grass and a wood isn't practical.

I carry a 2 and 4 hybrid in my bag. I hit my 2 hybrid so well that I no longer carry a 3 wood or 5 wood.

Hit my first hybrid club a couple weeks back playing 9 with my son......Played weekly 20 years back and boy have the clubs changed for the better.....Really like the clubs, very forgiving.

Crushed a tee shot on a par 5, grabbed his driver figuring I could reach the greens (or close enough), my young whipper snapper said "use the hybrid, you'll break my driver'......"I'm not going to break your driver"......I was wrong......

Golf is for arrogant, elitist, snobs.

Don't waste your money.

Thank me later.

No golf is a great excuse to ride around in a golf cart and pound beers and smoke bowls while avoiding exercise and the enjoying nature.

I love golf

Getting your kids involved is a great idea......I lived on a golf course, but the game didnt interest much me. Honestly, i didnt want to spend 4 hours with my dad, who is a world class hard ass, when i could be rolling around with my friends. I like it now, but rarely find the time between my biz, lsu football, saints football and my kids athletics. My kids(9 and 10) now have clubs, so we are going to start playing some on weekends. The boys and i play disc golf about once a month. A round takes us about an hour, so much easier to fit in

I wouldnt overspend on a 1st set. $$$$$ isnt an issue for you, so you can upgrade to fancier clubs next year and donate your starter set. I wouldnt worry at all about your charles barkley-esque swing, either. Just have fun. Good luck

Go ahead and get fitted at Continental Golf for Ping clubs. They do have some used ones you can demo or buy for you or the kids.
You also can go to Play It Again Sports in Cary to get the kids some clubs.
Take them to Knight's Play in Apex for Par 3 golf. It is open also at night and they have driving range.
Started playing a year ago and broke 90 recently from back tees at RGA.
I wasted a bit of money on used clubs and was not pleased until I got the new ones.
Your kids depending on their ages could also use women's clubs.
Going to play Finley At UNC next week. Do not play Lonnie Poole until you get your game back.It is a really tough course.
Pascal in Wake Forest is where Palmer used to play when he was at Wake Forest.
You can buy groupons for 12.00 each for 18 holes. Usually the place is empty and you can hit 3-4 balls if you like.
Heading out to Virgina tomorrow to play a Donald Ross course.
Someone told me Golfsmith is closing it's doors soon. If so you should be able to get some deals there or at Golf Galaxy in Cary.

Thanks for the feedback. I hadn't considered disk golf but I will definitely look into it. I think we can accomplish the same goals of fun and time together in a shorter time. It seems like it's getting more and more popular as well. I hear you on the golf time commitment. That's why I haven't played really. I have buddies who leave their wives stuck with their kids but I feel guilty about her being stuck at home with 3 while I'm out playing golf.

Reaching much, FDC? 10 years ago I would have come back here on Friday with a scan of the receipt when I go to golfsmith and purchase some new sticks.

Or I could print out a picture of your douchebag avatar and snap a picture this Friday AM when I have my first OR case and post here. I'm a pediatric dentist. Pediatric dentists take children to hospitals when they have massive amounts of decay and are too young to cooperate in an office. Since you are the type to do so, go to the AAPD website and look at the residency tab and learn all about our training. It does make me chuckle to think you believe I feel the need to misrepresent myself on here. For what?? Some fictitious internet world? HA!

And it's medicaid you dipshit, not medicare. Kids, not geriatrics. Either way, your attempts at attack are getting weaker and weaker.
Fair enough. Carry on

Thanks so much Lowell. I was going to head to Golfsmith today, I wonder if they will discount at all.

Long story short- haven't played a round of golf in about 8 years. I only played for a 4 year span while in school. I was pretty bad, but it was fun.

i'd like to get back into golf and get a little more serious. The main reason is that I'd like my two boys to pick it up at an early age. I think it would be great to be able to leave the electronic world behind and spend quality time on the links as we get older.

I do have a set of clubs I got used but they are pretty shitty. Here is my question- Since I pretty much suck at golf, I'd prefer not to go into the store to have them watch my swing because there's not much to watch. I know the typical answer is to get a set of used clubs, play, and then get fitted for good clubs.

What if I don't mind paying 1k-$1500 off the bat? Is this a major mistake or could I get really nice clubs that I can grow into regarding my skill set? If show, how should I break it down? Iron set, woods, drivers, sand and lob wedge, and putter?

Does anyone want to "build my bag" for me here with suggestions on the above? Open to any and all advice on the topic.

I am pretty much in the same boat.. While I do play sparingly a few times a year if its not too hot.. Its always been with my old mans hand me down clubs that he gave me in college. I played twice in Maui last week once with an instructor.. He showed me a few things and I shot a 45 on the back which I have never done.... Well now im hooked! Although it could have just been the breathtaking views... hahah

Anyway I came home and bought the clubs I rented from the course in Wailea.. A set of Taylor Made Aero Burners

http://www.pgatoursuperstore.com/landingpage/taylormade_aeroburner.jsp

The irons are very forgiving.. Ive never hit the ball so straight.. Playing for the first time back home with them on Sat..

I recommend them:0008
