Course rules? Was this stuff discussed before you teed off? We usually give 3 club lengths if it's trapped around shit in bounds.

You have to take a drop on a line from the shot to the ball (not closer to the hole), and there is a penalty stroke.

It is an unplayable lie, you do not get relief without loss of stroke. As long as you identified the ball as his, that is the ruling. If you assume it and still didn't find it it is a lost ball, and he needs to go back to where he hit from and take penalty stroke, unless tree was in the hazard, then he has relief from the hazard line. You gave your buddy a free stroke, you are very kind. Hope you did not lose the hole because of it.

Ground under repair, just for a long time. Next time bring the Homlite w/ ya:toast:

A stump is still a tree, in my opinion. Once a tree, always a tree. Some pro golfer climbed a tree and hit from a tree one time, can't remember who.

the tree stump is a permanent obstruction ... look at it this way, what if it just rolled up to the base of a big tree?

one stroke penalty and drop within 2 club lengths no closer to hole OR go backwards as far as you want keeping the flag in line from the ball OR replay shot from previous location

I think between several saying one thing and only 1 dissenting vote in Reflog that you are trying to justify your bad decision to yourself in giving your buddy a free stroke and a break. Am I correct?? I am feeling this lost you the match as well as money. If you signed scorecards because of money involved then he signed an incorrect one, thus get your money back. If not, he should man up and prove a Gentlemen's game is just that.....a Gentlemen's game of integrity.

This would be an unplayable lie, penalty shot, drop, and hit
