I own a remanufactured and compatible cartridge business here in Knoxville, TN. I have been doing this for a year and do not mind giving you the facts.
1. Reman. inkjets are very tough to get consistent quality. Cartridge World and another here in Knoxville does their own in store and I hear nothing but horror stories. Just think, you have a min. wage college kid filling your ink cartridge. If you are a using this for your home, it is OK - but not for business. Ours are done centrally, and then we sell the finished product. STILL, the defect rate on the best remans are about 3-4%. Remans. are Dell, HP, and Lexmark
2. Compatible inks are easier because they are simply ink tanks. Most Canon, Epson, and Brother inks are compats. and the defect rates on these are extremely low - 1-2%.
3. Toner defect rates are around 1-2% as well. I always tell my clients that if you are particular about color, buy OEM color toner instead of aftermarket. Color toner manufact. have patents on their colors, so there will be slight differences in aftermarket toner. 90% of my users use ours and have no problems with it, I just try to be upfront.
Bottom line is if you go aftermarket or reman., it is best to buy local. You will pay $1 or so more usually, but if and when something goes wrong, they will replace it no questions asked. At least I do.
We handle a chain of convenience stores, Pilot Travel Centers, which are all over the place. We have fulfilled over 800 orders from the with only one cartridge returned. In fact, the one that was returned was an OEM Kyocera cartridge. Even OEM's will fail at some point.
Hope this helps guys.
