Saturday Night Live in the early years was also a riot. It sucked in the years of Charles Rocket and company became good again in the year with Eddie Murphy and Billy Crystal and sucked again until the years of Mike Myers when it was ok. But in the years of Chevy Chase, Dan Akroyd, John Belushi etc. it was the funniest show going.

I still think the Simpsons will go down as one of the best comedy series ever (at least until this year when the show has gone downhill).

Some honorable mentions btw:
- Barney Miller
- South Park
- Frasier
- Taxi
- Welcome Back Kotter
- Andy Griffith
- Happy Days (early years)
- Laverne and Shirley
- Odd Couple
- All in the Family
- The Jeffersons

Worst shows ever:
- Joanie loves Chachi
- Good Times
- One Day at a Time
- What's Happening
- Three's Company
- Full House
- Eight is Enough
- Love American Style

Of the US shows, the 2 that stand out a mile for me are The Simpsons and M*A*S*H

I think great comedy had great characters and those 2 shows have/had them all...

With The Simpsons it's not just the family, it's how friggin' hilarious the others are - Chief Wiggum, Barney, Moe, Apu, Dr Hibbert, Seymour Skinner, Krusty, Sideshow Bob, Smithers, Mr Burns, Carl and Lenny, Patty and Selma, Troy McClure, Kent Brockman, Jimbo Jones, Neslon Muntz, Milhouse, Groundskeeper Willie, Mrs Krabappel, the comic book guy, the nutty scientist....

There are so many classic Simpsons episodes - when Bart was born, the Streetcar named Desire show, Bart pretending to be a date for Mrs K and how to ditch her (Hello Baby! Welcome to Dumpsville! Population: You!; 3 simple words - I am gay.); the monorail episode....

Of course, M*A*S*H had Hawkeye, Klinger, Radar, Frank Burns, Hotlips, Colonel Potter, Colonel Blake, Father Mulcahy, Sgt Flagg....many classic moments from that show that could split your sides but also bits you remember for other reasons....Hawkeye and Hotlips kissing when getting bombed....and I still cry when I see the repeat of the show when Radar has to come into surgery to tell them Henry Blake's chopper went down ....

But man, u guys need to watch some British comedy....3 superb progarmmes that would round out the Anders Top 5 are:

Blackadder (all 4 series)
The Young Ones
Auf Wiedersehn Pet

and one thrown in for good luck...

Fawlty Towers

:D

On the course!
That would be Mr Tudball........ Mrs Wiggins was his secretary.

That was always a funny bit, though.

Green Acres is the place for me.

Farm livin' is the life I need.

Land spreadin' out so far and wide.

Keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside.

New York is where I'd rather stay.

I get allergic smelling hay.

I just adore a penthouse view.

Darling I love you but give me Park Avenue.

You are my wife.

Goodbye city life.

Green Acres we are there!
