Haiti 2015 mission

More clinic pics from the fishing village and of a lady who had a moto wreck and nearly ripped off her heel. We have been seeing her daily for wound care and IM antibiotics. I'm not sure how it will work out, but we are giving her a fighting chance at least since we are here.

How hot is it there?

Extremely! Low 90s with around 90% humidity. Out on the ocean today with hardly any wind it was boiling hot.

Lord help me live from day to day
In such a self-forgetful way
That even when I kneel to pray
My prayer shall be for ? Others.

Help me in all the work I do
To ever be sincere and true
And know that all I do for you
Must needs be done for ? Others.

Let ?Self? be crucified and slain
And buried deep; and all in vain
May efforts be to rise again
Unless to live for ? Others.

And when my work on earth is done
And my new work in heaven?s begun
May I forget the crown I?ve won
While thinking still of ? Others.

Others, Lord, yes others
Let this my motto be
Help me to live for others
That I may live like Thee.

I Appreciate it, but nothing special about me. I'm just blessed to have my life, my family, my friends, my occupation, and my faith.

Pretty chill day today, day 8 I think? We went to the Haitian church, and they can really sing. Some of the songs I recognized, some I didn't.

In the afternoon, we organized the pharmacy in the clinic which consists of tossing way expired things and condensing small amounts of pills into larger bottles to save shelf space. Haiti medical is run in large part on donated medications from the USA, but if u have ever had a sample from your doctor, u know that it's a lot of fluff and packaging for maybe one pill.

The pill bottles are saved after the labels are laboriously taken off so they can be used for prescriptions the patients take home. Everything is reused as much as possible.

I know I'll be working the clinic on Tuesday and Thursday, but I'm not sure about the rest of the week. I do know one day we will be going to the market to buy the much anticipated goats, and that will be a fun time for sure. I'm going to try to throw up a few more pictures of the orphans opening their Christmas presents if the Internet will allow it. Thanks for all the kind words and support. Writing is good for me, and it makes me feel good that what I write in this thread and the Las Vegas thread is so well received.

This is a banana tree, obviously, but I think it's interesting to watch them grow and to see that huge bloom below the banana bunches. This area of Haiti is blessed with an abundance of fresh water, so they have planted many hundreds of banana trees on campus, and they have have built a natural trench irrigation system.

I juSt found out today that a banana tree only produces one bunch of bananas for its whole life. After that, it is cut down, and removed and another new tree takes its place. Looks like clinic tomorrow then market/goats tomorrow too. More later.

Today was pretty light with a few clinic patients that came in. I'm known now as "the big doctor", lol, and the Haitians are telling me there will a be a lot of people to see me tomorrow. They think I look scary but then realize what a softie I am. The lady who is coming with the foot wound I posted a few days ago still is coming daily for antibiotics (I have been giving her IV antibiotics since I can and they work better) and dressing changes and hopefully she will be mostly healed before we leave. She would probably be septic if we hadn't been here BC it is a terrible wound and impossible to keep clean in Haiti.

I have a few pics with the orphans today. They love being around us and literally swarm us.

The goats were outside the mission. The law of the land here is that if your goat gets in another persons garden, it is assumed that the owner doesn't care about them and it is cool to kill them and throw in the street  nobody bothers them, and word gets to the owner who can them come retrieve them and butcher for the meat. It seems quite shocking to me, but this is Haiti, and that's how it is done here

Clint, it's amazing that you and your wife head down there with the other good folks and do what you do so unselfishly. Very cool and this thread is almost as interesting as your day-to-day Vegas observations. That foot photo is harsh, man! Was that before you poured the hydrogen peroxide on it?

Oh and come home soon, we got guys arguing about Guns and Roses vs. Metallica and shit

The foot wound didn't have peroxide poured on it; it just looked that bad. Whoever stitched it did a terrible job. We have taken the stitches out and have been taking a picture of it daily. I'll post another soon to show the progress. Thanks also for the kind words. U like the vegas thread better? I need to liven this one up then 😀

Clinic and goat day!

This morning, I had a ton of people waiting for me at the clinic. I saw a total of 23 patients ranging in age from 2 months to 93 years old. It's quite the experience to say the least! There wasn't anything too exciting to write about, but a lot of people got the help and medication they needed. This is a picture of all the people waiting when I walked up.

The truck for the market left at 8:30, so I didn't get to go bc I had to see patients. Brandi went, however, and she tells me she took many pictures. I haven't seen any yet, but I will try to get her phone this evening and upload the story and pictures here. As of now, they just got back, and all the goats are in the back of the dump truck hog tied. It seems cruel, but that's how it has to be done. I'm not sure the process yet of distributing the goats and who gets what, but I'll do my best to get pictures of the goats with their new owners. Thanks to the support from people here, we purchased 10 goats!! Update later.
