My wife and I are going to Haiti right after Christmas for a two plus week trip. We are both excited (especially her because she has never been), and the area is a fishing village where I have not been in the past. I will post more, but what We will be doing is working through the mission I have written about in the past nwhcm.org In an area called the Mole.

We are willing to do anything, but because we are both nurses, the plan is for us to work in the small clinic and to go out from the Mole to remote fishing villages to run clinics as well. We can take medications and see whoever comes to us for help and treat accordingly the best we can with what we have and refer people with higher levels of needs as appropriate.

It should be a great experience, and we are thankful to be going. I know that Smurphy and BBC both support this mission, and several others here have given money in the past when I have gone. I'm not asking for money, but it is quite expensive to go.

I would like to buy some goats while I am there to give away. The way this works is you give a male and female goat to a family with instructions to not eat the goats. When the female goat has babies, those are to be sold for money and the female will produce milk that can also be used or sold then repeat. There has been tremendous success with this, and it is often a life changer for a poor family who has nothing.

This is a heavy, heavy voodoo area too. Sometimes it's scary; I have had a machete raised to me in a threatening manner before. Voodoo is no joke; I have been in voodoo houses and voodoo temples. They literally make your skin crawl with the overwhelming aura of pure evil. Anyway, I'll write more about this in the coming months, and I think it will be quite an experience that some of you might enjoy along with me thru Madjacks. Again, I'm not asking for donations or praise or anything else. I just want to share the ride with my friends here. Feel free to get my number or email if you wish, or just post here. Thanks!

I think U can go to nwhcm.org and make one Thru a link there and put my name on it or PayPal it to me directly Kyhunter65@gmail.com or write me a check for the goats. I know I need to take money with me to do the goat thing. There are also projects going for water purification, latrines, and various other things. Thanks.

6'5,

My church has supported a Haitian missionary, his wife and two sons for longer than I've been a member. They return to the U.S. once every four years and will be visiting our church again in mid November. It's my understanding they care for 300 orphans.

Rev. Lucien and Maude Saul,
IPM national missionaries in Haiti

They're located in the northern part of Haiti in a town called Bassin.

Bassin is where we went with the "American cares" disaster relief team in the days following the earthquake. The effluvium was near intolerable it was so fetid.

I commend you Sixfive. You're both, you and the wife, a true benefit to mankind Clint. I'm always in awe of your compassion for people. Cheese my friend.

I have a friend that's a nurse and she seems to go a couple of times per year. I know the last time she went they stayed at the New Life Children's Home. I believe it's in Port oh Prince(I know the spelling is wrong on this)

I salute you 6'5 but I'm also jealous. Not many of us have jobs where we do anything other than earn money. You can truly help and make a difference in people's lives that need it.

Cool line.

It would be cool for people here to donate - and then you send photos of what their donation did for families in Haiti. Unless you were going to do that already.

there is a lot of problems here in the states.

Yeah but legally there isn't much we can do about people like you except wait for you to die.

In all seriousness what are you doing to fix the "problems here in the states." I don't always agree with 6-5's viewpoints but he is risking his life doing something to try to better the world. You and I are talking shit on a message board. The difference is at least I'm supportive of what he is doing and am aware that he is a more caring man than I for being willing to do what he is doing.

One month to go! I haven't figured out yet if I'm going to have power for my CPAP at night. That might be a problem. It will all work out, I'm sure.
