Caught someone recently lying about how much they make. I guess its just a sign of being insecure, but its surprising when salary/pay wasn't even being questioned but the guy volunteered a number that was far from accurate. Just seemed odd, guess the dude wanted to brag about something that isn't even real. Outside of feeling inferior, what could be other reasons to lie about what you earn at your job?

Good point, my inquiry was too narrow regarding lieing about money. He definitely lies about other stuff so the issue is likely more than monetary.
Interesting, the other side of the coin. Think I remember the Boys advocating that approach.

Back to the topic: As YYZ referenced, it isn't really something that comes up in conversation. I've had two neighbors tell me what they make, but I didn't reciprocate. What are the outcomes? Judgement and/or a request for a loan? Not interested.

I think cheating was probably the wrong word, more like being creative sounds better. Now this was back in the 70's and early 80's when I was in mostly a cash business. I'll look for the thread you mentioned.

LOL a hundred times i did that but when i waqs selling cars i looked the part any way always drove brand new cars or top of line luxury used cars ...
So it worked i was barely making $200 a week way back in late 70's up till about 81 then they cut profit margin way down couldnt give away like $1500 any more
