Former unified heavyweight world champion and current World Boxing Council No. 1-ranked heavyweight contender Hasim "The Rock" Rahman will face No. 2-ranked Monte "Two Gunz" Barrett for the interim WBC heavyweight crown

With Klitschko's health in question, the possibility exists that the winner of Rahman vs. Barrett will not only become the interim WBC champion but could become outright champion if Klitschko is unable to return to the ring in the near future.

"If Vitali will not or cannot fight me, I'm happy to fight Monte Barrett for the interim title," Rahman said. "I'll beat Monte and then it's up to Vitali whether he wants to surrender his title to me in or out of the ring."

Rahman, (40-5, 33 KOs) from Baltimore, Md., now living and training in Las Vegas, reached the pinnacle of his career when he shocked unified world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis and the world on April 22, 2001, with a fifth-round knockout punch in Carnival City, South Africa.

Las Vegas on Nov. 17, 2001.
Rahman deviated from the game plan that had served him so well in South Africa months earlier, and Lewis went on to win the fight by way of knockout in round four.

Rahman went on to face Evander Holyfield, David Tua and John Ruiz with mixed results. Long considered to be the most physically gifted athlete in the heavyweight division, Rahman, 32, recently re-dedicated himself to the sport. Barrett, (31-3, 17 KOs) from Queens, N.Y., arrives at his first world title appearance coming off impressive back-to-back wins over previously undefeated foes, both of whom were 24-0 before facing Barrett. He won a decision over Dominick Guinn in Hot Springs, Ark., on March 27, 2004, and scored a ninth-round technical knockout over Owen "What the Heck" Beck on Feb. 5 in St. Louis.

Barrett, 34, is also a seasoned veteran like Rahman.

In a wide open heavyweight division, one of the more intriguing aspects of this fight is Barrett and Rahman both possess the dangerous combination of skill and experience that could enable either to emerge as the next great heavyweight world champion.

You are 12 wins over 500 and up 12.05 :nono:

Either piss poor money management or lying.

Neither, I use a small scale

Instead of using a 10 unit system to rate my plays, I use a 1 unit system to keep the numbers down.

+12 units is very impressive when you consider that a 1 unit play is a huge play in my system

If I used a 10 unit system, my dog plays would be +120 units...get it?

Nice try though

My play on Barrett by 12 round decision is a value play, the number was way too high and thats not just my opinion...
went from +750 to +560 now.

I don't think Barrett can hurt Rahman, and I expect Rock to be in great shape so he shouldn't fade down the stretch.
If Barrett wins, it will be by decision, I get +750 instead of +220.

Rahman was in excellent condition for the Meehan fight and with a title shot on the line, he should be ripped for this one too. If he's around 230, it will be very hard not to play him, esp with a solid hedge on the other side. If he comes in overweight, I'll let the +750 ride.

Congrats on Taylor

It was difficult getting through to DK but KOD managed to get in a cell phone interview with a legend in the boxing world, none other than Don King himself.

The interview went something like this

DK - hello who is this

KOD - Hey DK , its me KOD.

DK - Yeh its been awhile since I talked to you so what do you want.

KOD - Yeh I think it was during that Ruiz vs Toney fiasco.

DK - yeh memorable.

KOD - I was hoping for some inside information on this Rahman vs Barrett fight coming up. You know the big extravaganza one.

DK - Look at you always trying to make some money.

KOD - Well I would just say DK, that is the pot calling the kettle damn black if I ever heard it. I make pennies to what you make and you know it.

DK - laughs... ok so what do you really want and make it quick.

KOD - Well if its not asking too much I would like to know who is the winner going to be in the fight.

DK - The winner will be me.

KOD - In what way. ( now comes the good part)

DK - In a money winning way.

KOD - You mean like I smell money and it smells green ?

or the this is a money fight, time to make the money ?

or the meet you on Glory Rd , it runs right off Victory Lane and that is where I live. ?

DK - Yeh something like that, KOD, I taught you well.

KOD - So tell me then , whats it going to be ?

DK - Well if you were a betting man, I would have to say take the over 9.5 rounds.

KOD - Really the over ? the over the 9 rounds ?

DK - Yeh the over. And don't tell anyone I told you that.

DK - And Rahman is going to have his day.

KOD - have his day ? you mean ........

Like I said, I don't think Barrett can hurt Rahman, and for Barrett to win he has to box Rahman and stay out of harms way. The over could cash if Barrett fights the right fight, and I think he will.

Don King wants Klitchko's WBC belt more than anything. King knows that Rahman has a much better chance of beating Klitchko than Barrett, and King has a much bigger hold on Rahman anyway. This card is obviously promoted by King, so if it goes to the cards, Rahman has a huge advantage.

However

If Rahman takes this fight lightly and shows up weighing over 240, I won't play him. I dought that will happen with a title shot on the line, but you never know. My final play won't come untill I get a confirmation on Rahmans weight.

When will you know Rahmans weight ?

I would like to know what his weight is right now ?
That way we could tell if he was training hard or maybe out chasing some tail.

no way we find that out though.

We won't know Rahmans actual weight until the weigh in , and by then it will be too late to make a winning wager.

A even more important question is what is Barrett weighing these days ?

This is Rahman's last shot at a title and he knows it. He was a ripped 232 against Meehan and looked very sharp in that fight. If he stays in that kind of shape, and I think he will, the fight is his to lose.

The weigh-in takes place 24 hours before the fight, plenty of time to make a final play. I just hope the line doesn't move too much by then.

Maybe we'll get some inside info on Rahman's condition and lock it in early.

I wonder where they are training at and if the training camps are closed to the public ?

If its in Vegas , we could send some honest johns over to see if Rahman is ripped or not. You don't have to put them on a scale but you have to see them in person.

WORLD BOXING COUNCIL PRESS RELEASE ? JULY 15, 2005

The Board of Governors of the World Boxing Council, presided by doctor Jose Sulaiman, announces from its offices in Mexico City that a final decision has been taken in regards to the heavyweight division, as follows:

1. The WBC requires that Vitali Klitschko make his following defense against the interim champion, winner of the Rahman-Barrett fight of August 13, 2005 in Chicago to comply with the WBC Rules and Regulations for a champion.

2. Vitali Klitschko would be approved to make a voluntary defense on September 24, only if there is a consent or acceptance agreement with the parties of the interim championship bout, as it has been the case in many occasions in the past.

3. Based on all considerations, including the last 5 fights of the 3 boxers, the WBC has decided that:

a) A split of 65-35% is applied if Klitschko is not approved to fight on September 24.

b) However, a split of 55-45% will be applied if Vitali is approved to fight on September 24.

4. If Klitschko does not fight on September 24, the winner of Rahman and Barrett must be ready and medically approved to fight Klitschko within 6 to 8 weeks after the August 13 bout.

5. If Klitschko is allowed to fight on September 24, the winners of the interim championship fight and champion Klitschko?s fight must be ready to fight for the undisputed WBC title no later than December 2005.

Golota vs. Saleta is OFF

Golota vs. Saleta is OFF
By Scoop Malinowski

During a sparring session on Monday at the Windy City Gym in Chicago, Andrew Golota was cut when a punch broke his "helmet," according to manager Ziggy Rozalski.

The heavyweight boxer received a severe cut over his right eye. The helmet caused the cut after breaking from after a punch from Obed Sullivan. Eleven stitches on both surface of skin and inside the deep wound were required, meaning the Polish Fight of the Century with Przemyslaw Saleta is offically OFF the "King's Conquerors" card at Chicago's United Center on August 13th.

Something stupid always happens to Golata. What a big dumb
lug. I was looking forward to this fight. If nothing else to watch
a disqualification.

The BIOFILE: HASIM RAHMAN
By Scoop Malinowski

HT: 6-2 1/2 WT: 230

BORN ON: Nov. 7, 1972 IN: Baltimore, MD

CHILDHOOD HEROES: Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes. I got word from Don Turner saying Larry said, Thank you...for beating up Trevor Berbick. You remember that fight they had when Larry jumped over a car to get at him?

NICKNAME: Rock.

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: Reading, play checkers, go to movies, surfing the 'Net.

PRE-FIGHT FEELING: Always feel a little nervous. Till my walk to the ring. I'm confident that all the hard work is done. I did enough gym work. I'm excited. I'm about to put on a show. I feel I'm gonna show them a helluva shootout. (Upon entering the ring) yeah, I look at him. Do they want to look at me? If I feel them shift their eyes off of me, I feel they'd rather be somewhere else than in there with me. Then I go right after them.

EARLY BOXING MEMORY: I haven't been boxing that long. When I boxed sparred with my first pro fighter, Mike Whitfield, who was called Little George Foreman, I threw all non-stop punches for the first 30 seconds. After that I had nothing left [smiles]. So he beat me up for the next two rounds. But, eventually, I turned the tables on him.

FAVORITE MOVIES: 48 Hours, Heat, Scarface.

MUSICAL TASTES: Jazz, R&B, rap, Kenny G, Biggie Smalls, Anita Baker.

GREATEST SPORTS MOMENT: I have to tell you that one [smiles]? I have to answer that one [smiles]?! Winning the world heavyweight championship. I did all my training, came up with one punch (KO 5 Lennox Lewis in Carnival City, 2001). The best I've ever felt. Lewis was coming on and he was boxing good. But he wasn't dominating me. I backed him up on several occasions. It wasn't a lucky punch. People looking for a lazy explanation instead of a logical one resort to saying it was a lucky punch. But it was not one, desperation shot. I backed him up into the ropes with a series of left hands. I sized him up perfectly and took him out. Delivering the punch (right hand) was the greatest moment for me. I was so calm and confident going into that fight. I felt like I was determined, so like he really had to kill me to really get me out of that ring. That's the attitude I went in there with. That's how I fought him. I hit him with a really good right hand early in the 5th round. And I felt like I hurt him. He smiled at me. And that just confirmed that I hurt him. I figured I'd just go for the finish.

MOST PAINFUL MOMENT(S): Well, I would say losing to Oleg Maskaev. That's a fight I really shouldn't have lost. No kind of way. But although it happened, I think it helped me in the future.

WORST INJURY: I hurt my hand, chipped a bone in my right hand - sparring before a scheduled fight with Obed Sullivan.

FAVORITE MEAL: Lasagna and a glass of orange juice mixed with cranberry juice.

FAVORITE BREAKFAST CEREAL: Frosted Flakes.

FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR: Vanilla.

LITTLE KNOWN FACT: I'm extremely sensitive. I just play it off real good. I'm one of those guys who, when they say something bad about me on the Internet, I'm gonna crack their code names and figure out who they are. Then they're gonna get a phone call [smiles]!

FIRST JOB: Working construction in Baltimore with my stepfather (age 12).

FIRST CAR: 1987 red Ford Taurus.

FUNNIEST BOXER: Zab Judah. Just keeps me laughing with his stories. He's everywhere and he knows everybody [smiles].

FUNNY BOXING MOMENT: My brother (Winky) took over training chores for a fighter 1-3. And three days later he got a fight in Miami. Zab Judah and Winky worked his corner and got him knocked out in the first round. Then they wanted to take the lion's share of his purse! I think that was hilarious. [smiles].

FAVORITE VACATION SPOT: Disney World.

PRE-FIGHT MEAL: No real meal, I like to eat pizza, a little pasta.

PEOPLE MOST ADMIRED: I most admire my mom (Joyce). She taught me the best. She never drank or anything like that. The qualities I most admire are leadership qualities, people that don't necessarily follow a person because of where they are or what they have. I just like individuals who remain the same no matter who they're talking to. Talk and live what they say.

INTERESTING FACT: Most boxers are not perceived as terribly bright. But nobody playing one game of basketball or one game of golf can make $20 or 30 million. I can fight for one second and make $30 million. Why isn't everybody boxing?

The BIOFILE Monte Barrett
By Scoop Malinowski

Status: Heavyweight contender will face Hasim Rahman on August 13th in Chicago for the Interim WBC title.

Ht: 6-3 Wt: 220

Born On: May 26, 1971 In: Greenville, North Carolina

Childhood Heroes: "Muhammad Ali, that's it."

Hobbies/Interests: "Spend time with my kids. Play chess. Play basketball."

Nicknames: "A thousand aliases [smiles]...Two Gunz, The Banger, Raw Dog, The Executioner...so many, I can't remember."

Favorite Movies: "Oh man, Star Trek trilogy. Godfather trilogy. Ghost with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. And I'm missing one - Sanford & Son and Good Times are my favorite TV shows. And Planet of the Apes was my favorite TV movie."

Early Boxing Memory: "First time out I won the Golden Gloves (age 22). I think that was my biggest amateur boxing moment. (Who did you beat?) I remember his first name was Carmelo, from PAL in the Bronx. The energy was so enormous for me. It was like, so big. And it was fun then, I had fun."

First Job: "Working in a park (age 14). Cleaning up the park for youth. Baisley Park in Queens."

First Car: "1989 green Jeep Wrangler, when I graduated from high school."

Childhood Dreams: "Successful. I didn't know how I was gonna be it. But I knew I was gonna become it."

Favorite Meal: "Italian."

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: "Vanilla."

Funny Boxing Memory: "My whole life is comical. But I can't really think of one off-hand. But I'll come back to that question. I'll think about that one."

Pre-Fight Feeling: "Last fight, singing. My spirit is good. Laughing, joking, singing, playing around. Just being silly."

Greatest Sports Moment: "I would have to say Dominick Guinn (in March 2004). (Why was that win so important to you?) Redemption. I restored myself in the boxing community. A lot of people had me written off. And I just showed the hard work paid off. A lot of people had me counted out. A came back through all adversity that I was facing. And I came out on top. I've been the underdog all my life. So, circumstanches...I'm used to those circumstances. So I feel like that was the persona of my life - being the underdog and overcoming those obstacles. (When did you first see defeat etched on Guinn's face?) When I walked in the ring. (Really?) Yeah, that's when I looked at him. As soon as I looked at him, I saw right through him. I saw defeat."

Most Painful Moment: "Losing to Klitschko. No, correct that - losing to (Lance) Whitaker (by split decision in 1999). That was my first loss. It was painful. I knew I lost that because I wasn't training. I went into the camp two weeks before the fight. Was taking it very lightly. And at the time, he had a point to prove. And I had nothing to lose. Yet I still lost. I lost a lot of credibility. Even though it was a close fight. So that was the most painful loss. Because at that time, I felt like I didn't want to box anymore. But you go through a stage when you lose your first fight."

Worst Injury: "Broken hand in 6th fight (KO 1 Russell Perry in '97). And next fight, the other broken hand (W6 Ron McCarthy also in '97)."

Favorite Boxers To Watch: "I like Bernard Hopkins. Floyd Mayweather. Floyd's phenomenal. To describe this guy - he's just the epitome of boxing. And of course my favorite of all - Zab Judah. Zab is just super. Zab is phenomenal with his speed. And I came up in amateurs with Zab, he's like my little brother. I learned a lot from him. His speed and his arrogance, and everything he's about. His presence in the ring is just phenomenal."

Favorite Fights: "Aw man, I would say Brewster-Klitschko recently. I would say James Toney and Jirov. And I would say Floyd Mayweather and Corrales. And I would also say Trinidad-Hopkins."

People Qualities Most Admired: "People with integrity. People who speak their mind. And people who are also genuine people, not plastic or phony."

Funny Boxing Memory: "Personal moment is just after the Guinn fight. I took all four of my kids to Disney World. And my daughter was going down the waterslide at the park. And I put my son on my shoulder, to let him watch. And he's two-years-old. And I said, Brandon, how you gettin' the water, why are you so wet? And I look and he's peein' down my neck [smiles]. So that's my favorite funny moment, my son is peein' down my neck when my daughter's ridin' down the water slide [laughs]."
