The Heineken Cup group stages conclude this week with Round Six. Unfortunately, this will be the last week of Heineken Cup rugby until the quarter finals begin in mid April. The good news is that the large gap is due to the world reknowned Six Nations tournament that begins in February. This means there will be plenty of rugby action through to the next stage of Heineken Cup.

Additionally, the Super League begins in March. Although not the same code of rugby I am handicapping here, it is a sport that I have been successful at over the past two seasons, so look forward towards weekly picks from the Super League.

Back to this week, there are some big big matches this weekend that will decided the fate of many a team. Check back Thursday and Friday evening for the first of this weekends picks.

Good Luck :)

Glasgow vs Llanelli (19:30 GMT)

History is against Llanelli tonight, as they have not won a rugby match in Scotland for over three years, and have lost up in Glasgow on three consecutive visits. However, they are not playing for two points tonight, but for a place in the Heineken Cup Quarter-Finals. The Scarlets will never be better equipped to win north of the border, coming off the back of some awesome form which has seen them defeat Sale (twice), Glasgow and Bourgoin since their heavy defeat out in France in game one. They name their strongest team tonight, and still leave class players on the bench.
Glasgows crushing defeat at Sale last week ended their European hopes for another year at least. They were taken to cover the handicap of fourteen points but came up embarrasingly short. They are without two Scottish international backs tonight in Glenn Metcalfe and Andrew Henderson. Looking through their team they are well short of world class players in comparison to Llanelli.
Believe me, the Scarlets will take thousands of fans up to Scotland tonight. Listen out for the sounds of Sospan Fach and Calon Lan echoing around Glasgow during the match. They will look to inspirational skipper Scott Quinell to lead them to a last eight place, and can overcome the six point deficit and bring home the money again.

2 Point Win Llanelli (-5) at 4/7 with Bet365

I am passing on the other game between Ulster and Northampton. I will be adding some outright plays shortly.

I am adding two outright plays tonight at this crucial part of the tournament. After the weekends games you will see these prices shorten, so it is important to get on now.

At the start of the season I backed Toulouse, Biarritz and Llanelli at big prices. Biarritz apart I have seen nothing to alter that opinion. Toulouse look unstoppable to me. Often frustrating in that they cruise through matches at times, without having to nail teams to the ground, they will look to up their efforts from this stage in. They must go into the quarter finals as the number one team, and Sport Interaction quote of 9/2 looks way out of line.

Llanelli are a team who play with plenty of spirit and passion. They are at the top of their game, and after tonights game at Glasgow I would have expected them to have secured home advantage in the quarter finals. This they have not been able to rely on in previous years, and they would have got to the final last year.....but who could forget that huge kick from Leicesters Tim Stimpson. :( That hurt that team last year, I know for sure. With Welsh rugby set to go provincial next year, the Scarlets will target winning the Heineken Cup in making sure that they stand alone as one of Wales provinces next year.

1.5 Points Each Way on Toulouse to win Heineken Cup at 9/2 with Sports Interaction

0.5 Points Each Way on Llanelli to win Heineken Cup at 12/1 with Sports Interaction

Still fancy Leinster outright myself!!, But that is a stand-out price for Toulouse + is definitely worth a look if you bet with that book.

Fancy Ulster (scr) 1/1 with coral for 1 pt tonight - their home record is extremely persuasive!!

Llanelli's away record puts me off + I don't like paying points for away teams as it is - but I'll cheer them on for you anyway!!!:D

good luck

ps 'Sospan Fach' is more like a type of curry! + we all know what that sounds like! :moon:

pps crooky hope you're on that football match ;)

Results: Ulster 16 Northampton 13
Glasgow 8 Llanelli 34

1/1 bal now +41.7pts 17/27 record

Well, both bets put up on on the night were winners (nice one crooky - despite the terrible conditions looks like your bet was never in much danger!) :D

Got to say that Ulster should have won much more easily - they totally dominated the game, but missed kick after kick and made bad choices whenever they had a tryscoring opportunity. The irony is they won with a late drop goal - ok they won the game - but they really needed to score tries or else they're out of the competition anyway....not complaining but I couldn't see the logic myself.
by the way - it was a crap match + both sides need opposing if they do get through!!!;)

Will try + post a bit sooner tomorrow - you too crooky! (don't worry about work! )

As Hoss already stated two winners posted again on this forum. Joe I will be posting tomorrows plays in about half hour as I will not have time to post in the morning.

The big thing about Llanelli's win tonight is that, compilers are sure to sit up and take notice and I doubt you will get 12/1 about Llanelli after tonights performance.

I will have to go back on my word and try and find time to post some time tomorrow. It is a bit of a shambles that handicaps are still not released at well past midnight on a Friday night, where as NFL, soccer, to name but a few, can be compiled up to four days before the matches begin.

For any North American readers, I will be posting at around 09:00 AM GMT, which is about 04:00 Eastern American tme. It might be worth knowing that tomorrows matches do not start until at least 14:00 PM (GMT)-09:00 AM Eastern American Time, so there will be plenty of time left to back tomorrws matches.

Sorry for the late posts....again time is at a premium for me today, so I am unable to post full write ups. However, what is important is the plays so here we go :

2 Points Win Munster to beat Gloucester at 8/11 with Stan James

1 Point Win Edinburgh (+8) vs Newport at 10/11 with SportingOdds

That is about ti for today. Back tonight with tomorrows plays.

Good Luck :)

Munster 33-6 Gloucester
Newport 42-32 Edinburgh

Another profitable day. A shame in missing out on the Edinburgh bet by just a few points, but the day certainly belongs to Munster. They destroyed Englands potential Zurich champions today, and with their backs against the wall advance to the quarter finals.

This is a bad sign for the outright bets, as Munster are sure to be there or there abouts when this tournament finshes.

Just one note to finish....it is pleasing that I have hit 8 of my nine two point bets, and my only three point bet of the season was a winner. Today I had a one point bet which was a loser....my point is it is vital that you stick to my unit stakes if you want to make a tidy profit from my plays.

I will be back later tonight with something I feel will make it a 3-1 weekend after tomorrows matches.

London Irish vs Toulouse (13:45 pm GMT, Reading, England)

London Irish slim hopes of qualifying were ended by last weeks defeat at Edinburgh. They are a team I have generally been looking to oppose throughout this tournament. They will be playing only for pride tomorrow, and with injury concerns already, they will not want to lose further players as they continue their defence of the Powergen Cup later this month.
This is a huge huge game for Toulouse. If they win at London Irish, then they will go inot the quarter finals as the number one seeds. This guarantees that should they win their quarter final tie, then they will play their semi final at a venue in France. They will be very tough to beat in their home country, and if they win this, they will be staring, a direct route to the final in the face. This fact aside, they are a much better team than London Irish. They have been guilty in this tournament of relaxing during matches, only to up their game when it is needed. Despite this fact, they remain unbeaten. I think they will be playing at 100% tomorrow, in what will be their last Heineken Cup game until April. The handicap of five points looks well within their reach, and I think they will win by a few tries which means it must be a third two point bet of the weekend.

2 Point Win Toulouse (-5) at 10/11 with Sporting Odds

Looking at the other game tomorrow. Had Biarritz not blitzed Cardiff today, then I would be definitely be playing Bristol +7 with the Tote tomorrow. However that Biarritz win means Bristol will have to score about nine tries tomorrow, or win by about 45 points. Believe me they will not be beating Hoss' fancies by that scoreline tomorrow, which means Biarritz will be advancing to the last eight.
Leinster on the other hand will also be looking to go into the quarters with a top two seeding. A victory here would ensure that they would play a potential semi-final at a venue in Ireland, so they will be going all out for the win. However, it is not going to be easy. I cannot decided how Bristol will approach this game....Will they start the game with the attitude that they face mission impossible?? If this is the case then Leinster will be winning, but if Bristol go into the game with the attitude that they will at least have a crack, then they can beat the Irishmen. Too many ifs and buts for me, so I am going to pass, and watch the game with interest only.

Back tomorrow with updated YTD...and tomorrows results and comments.

Good Luck :)

Same views for me too -

Toulouse (-4) 5/6 3pts Skybet

Leinster (-3) 10/11 Sp Odds 2pts

can't disagree with what crooky's written - but I think that Bristol being forced into opening the game up against Leinster will play into the Irish boys hands - and I really want them to get the no1 seeding :D
