Why don't you just put the hole in the fairways......then the greens will be so slow that you have to chip it in the hole!!!

MOW THE GREENS!!!!

What a ridiculous and rinky dink course set up......poor sportsmanship at its best!!! Here is what the Euro's are thinking -- Lets not even mow the greens and just let the grass grow because we aren't as good as putters on good, smooth, greens......lets just let chance have at it because we are inferior and hope that we get more lucky bounces off clumps of grass growing on the greens then the Americans.....

Also, since we hit the ball a lot shorter than the Americans, lets make all the fairways at a smaller width farther off the tee where they land the ball....

Unbelievable how these people complain about US being poor sports when they turn a nice course into garbage because they can't play with the big boys.......

Just returned from aday at the ryder cup and I read this so called thread. It sounds like sour grapes and excuses for losing before the event has finished. Personnally I feel the USA will win the singles about 8-4, why? because they have the better class players.
It is however the same scenario every couple of years. The Europeans are always the underdog, but as you know, the dogs usually perform above themselves.
You obviously dont watch much european golf as I would say the greens are running at what is the average on the tour. Forget the British Open in comparrison, they are played on links courses by the sea and are effected by the sun and wind directly. Also bear in mind that the climatic conditions in late September make the greens slower as there is more moisture in the air. This may also explain to you why the average American pro can't hit the ball 340 yards like he can in the States.
We play are Ryder Cup matches on courses of average total yardage and the fairways are narrow to reward good straight hitting. Why is it that the USA have to take irons and fairway woods off the tees? I'll tell you, because anyone can hit the fairway 320 yards away when the fairway width is 50 yards. That's a pretty big target. You become accustomed to that and then try hitting the fairway 30 yards wide and the target area is only 60%, now that's what I call golf.
Finally, we as spectators applaud and appreciate all good shots whoever plays them, American or European, is that not how the spirit of the Ryder Cup should be. Let me remind you that we dont barrick players, we don't shout out when a player is taking a swing, eg: all the way USA, and last of all we dont run accross the green on another players line before the hole has been completed.
In all honesty this post has made me angry because clearly you have an opinion which has been observed through tinted glasses, and not really thought through objectively.

Tinted glasses???

MOW THE GREENS!!!!!

You Euro's have the tinted glasses!!! You declare running onto the green as poor sportsmanship but when you DO NOT MOW GREENS which were stimping 3 FEET MORE on WEDNESDAY THAN SATURDAY that is POOR SPORTSMANSHIP!!!!

Why don't we just hold the Ryder cup on sandgreens next year? Or maybe we could play it in a jungle and put a hole in a big palm leaf?

I heard ROARS from the crowd today when Americans MISSED putts giving Euros the hole.....I could care less about that, but don't complain about the American fans when you all do the same thing!!!!!

You are a bunch of bitter asses -- i.e. Monty......that guy has a club shoved up his ass.....He is everybody's best friend when he is winning, but when things don't go his way -- he will make excuse after excuse blaming everyone and everything but himself....

Yeah I like narrow fairways too -- but funnel shaped fairways??? Narrow it to 15 yards wide where the big hitters hit it??? Is that golf??? If you are going to have it 30 yards wide -- make it 30 yds throughout -- not just where your guys hit it....that is blantant unsportsmanlike conduct by the R&A.....

Last of all....again.....MOW THE GREENS.....we have TECHNOLOGY in this day and age and have VERTICUTTING BLADES, ROLLERS, and other materials -- cold weather is perfect for fast greens and this time of year they could be rolling very nice.....but instead we have to watch greens with technology used back in the 19th century......what else would you expect though from the Brits????

C'mon Freeze: The British are the only people in the world that are the U.S.A.'s comrade in arms. Don't lump an entire county in with the golf population.

You guys are arguing about some, rich, spoiled GOLFERS(and golf associations) that act like infants. The entire attitude of the "not sport" Golf is sickening to me. Didn't someone write a book called: "golf, the waste of a good walk".

Everyone's playing the same course, and these guys should be able to putt on a dog's ass, if need be.

Dr Freeze I presume your bitter because who have wagered on the Americans.
Cold weather does not make the greens run faster. When it is cold in England the atmosphere is usually damp, that means moisture. When their is moisture there is a mild dew on the ground, this has an inpact on speed of the greens.
You may well hear roars, that patriotism. What I meant to say and so I will spell it out to you is that we dont go around verbally insulting the Americans like you do to Monty, and I take it that you are one of those because it is the only European you cared to mention, when you run up to him, spit at him and shout abuse MRS DOUBTFIRE. DO YOU NOW GET THE PICTURE.

GROW UP, TAKE THE COURSE AS IT IS, ITS TWELVE VERSUS TWELVE.

I haven't heard you complain when your team or country make use of the elements or conditions to help. It's called home field advantage.

actually i wagered on the Euro's.....the Americans are a bunch of spoiled rich kids and should not be favored on British lands.....plus we have Hal Sutton on the team who is a hack this year and Duval who I had no confidence in at all.....Zinger and Verplank are both off their game too....and Mickelson is a choker

took the ML on Euros and also have them at +.5 on today which is now locked up.....

Monty brings it on himself......that is the difference between him and the rest of the people.....Zinger and Faldo had some classic matchups but notice that Faldo wins and loses with grace so us American fans respect that.....Monty on the other hand is a sore ass loser.....

I have to admit Monty does come off as somewhat of a nancy boy. He complains about everything, obviously doesn't care for playing in the U.S. or in front of their fans, so basically comes to the U.S. to play golf for the purses.
I also would have to agree with yyz in as much that they should be able to adapt to any situation. Golf is an outdoor event/sport, much like fishing, horse racing, etc... If a front moves in on the day of the tournament, or it is someones "home course" should only matter slightly in the outcome when it comes to games of skill.

Hey Dr......howz the medicine now. If u backed Europe why complain? As someone else has said.....this is Britain in September (suprised Hoch wasnt in thermals) and your guys only won TWO singles. Woods refused to wear the team uniform each day (selfish brat) and your Captain lost the plot in the singles.

The greens are always slower over here..it is the weather u know......so open up a can of Bud a toast the winning team.

PS......If u want to critisize Garcia it is alright with me.......runnin down the fairway, having thrown the toys out of the pram yesterday) was hypocritical of him. He might have Seve's skill but he hasnt got his class.

hey kotysdad.....get a clue dumbass.....

i bet on the Euros on the outset, on the 2nd day foursome -- which pushed, the 2nd day fourball -- which i lost, and today -- which i won.....also played against Tiger which i pushed, Phil which i won and against Sutton and Monty where i went 1-1.....

i am not stupid.....i play golf to a scratch and have played against the best in the world as a junior......i think i understand a little about golf.....

as a US fan, these are my thoughts which i listed.....fortunately, when i gamble, i do not gamble with my heart......unlike most people on here including you as you presume i do......so reserve judgement for yourself..... with your limited capacity to think from what observe, that should keep you occupied

On the course!
Freeze,

From your last post, it would seem that you should understand the green speed should have little to do with the US putting woes. Europe has better over all putters in this event. That is a fact admitted by the US, even.

Plus, in match play, competitors are allowed to put on the green after the hole is finished, so they have no excuses for playing poorly.

I have never blamed course conditions for my losing a match, because the guys I am playing, are on the course at the same time.

Now this is a funny statement.....arent you the bonehead who said one of my riddles was ridiculous because you didnt even understand the problem??? LOL Thats a classic to tell someone else they have a limited capacity to think. Everytime you make a post I think you cant possibly come off any more stupid than you are already perceived to be, but once again I stand corrected.

green speed.......

does not only affect putting....

it factors MUCH in chipping....US players are MUCH better at playing flop shots REQUIRED for fast, hard greens....Euros are MUCH better at bumping and running optimal for slow soft greens....

hard, firm greens are better for high ball hitters -- this would favor US

as far as putting goes....that is debatable at who is better...time and again Euros made putts while US could never seem to get speed down....US plays on perfectly manicured, high dollar greens while Euro plays on more of a variety of speeds...that is a huge factor.....greens in the US are more or less the same these days -- even Bermuda greens are so hybrid now that they putt much like Bent when they are properly maintained.....i have spent many a year working at a golf course and have worked in a place where the humidity is high and extreme weather occurs at both ends of the thermometer.....i KNOW that it is MUCH EASIER to speed things up when it cools down.....the grass blade is just not as hearty.....humidity at low temperatures HELPS this cause.....

the absolute REFUSAL to mow the greens is ridiculous IMO.....

that being said, not only am I upset about that, I am upset the stupidity of Curtis Strange for sending out all our guys last today....then to say he was surprised at a different strategy after the winning strategy in these kinds of formats has repeatedly shown to be the one Euro imployed.....also Tiger Woods is the most selfish person on the planet -- he only cares about himself and takes away from all the comraderie on the team -- i think it would be better to not have him on there personally....rubs off on the other guys.....also would have liked to see Zinger play more than once....he played well with Tiger in the fourball on Friday and was nto used again....he also has some heart and shows it....I personally like how Sergio shows his heart -- he goes a little overboard once in a while but that is FAR better to see than Tiger's arrogant persona.....

Kotysdad....your riddle was stupid and so are you....you are a waste of my time so go away and try to figure out another dumb riddle and i will make sure that i don't read it because what appeals to your intelligence quotient doesn't appeal to mine.....you can figure out as to why that might be -- that is a riddle for you.....

Maybe this will appeal more to your intelligence quotient.....let me know if you dont understand this one, ok Doc??

Dr. Freeze has 3 apples, all but two are taken away. How many does Dr. Freeze have left??

Is that simple enough for ya, simpleton??

When that little hamster of yours is finished running in the wheel in that head of yours, you can give me your "understanding" again of velocity vectors. lmao That was a riot.

IMHO

The Euro gallery (spectators) are 2nd to none when it comes to golf. They are a class act.

One may not like Monty but considering his age, playing 5 matches in 3 days with bad back one must concur he has the heart of a lion.

I think Seve would be embarrassed that anyone would compare Sergio to him----and I know I should give Sergio time to grow up but whats with him ignoring the babe with blonde hair and kissing no less than 3 of his commrades on tv

My opinion of the competativeness of Ryder Cups despite being out manned on paper is classic "we vs me" The Euro teams play many events thoughout the years in places all over UK, many places which have few hotels and many players travel together thus they develope a bond and have true team attitude and here
---well enough said.
