redsfan: As Clive noted, Phil was involved in some life and death matters last March ( http://www.pgatour.com/story/7022592 ), and I think profound events in a player's personal life and career have impacts and consequences - for better or worse - temporary or defining - immediate, mid-term and long-term - and I'm usually trying to speculate and adapt to how those angles are playing out. I thought of those recent events while I watched a relaxed and confident Lefty dial up some impressive looking game on television on Wednesday.

Golf After Round 3

Golf After Round 3

I'm looking at betting on golfers that have Indian Wells left to play. There are 3 near the top of the leaderboard that have played all but Indian Wells - Paul Azinger, Kirk Triplett and Chris Riley. Indian Wells has played by far the easiest of the 3 courses and in fact is a whole 4 shots easier than La Quinta after today. Bermuda Dunes has played 2 shots tougher and PGA West 2.5 shots tougher. Mickelson has Bermuda Dunes left to play - a course he has not done particularly well on in the past.

Of the lot I think Azinger is the most appealing. While I hate betting golfers who haven't won in ages, Azinger played very well last week and this week so he seems to be in good form. Also he shot -6 today at La Quinta and could have shot -9 with some breaks. La Quinta is the course they will be playing Sunday and he showed today that he can do well there. Triplett has the potential to shoot in the very low 60s at Indian Wells tomorrow and it wouldn't surprise me to see him near the lead after tomorrow.

Outrights - Final update: 0-3; -4.50 units

Kelly 30th
DiMarco mc
Jacobson 50th

Kelly was among the leaders after the first round, but that was as good as it got. Not very encouraging, so quite a relief that the matchups showed some profit.

Matchups - Final update: 4-3-0; +0.41 units

Goosen/Howell WON by 12
Goosen/Campbell WON by 6
Frazar/Peoples WON by 13
Jacobson/Parnevik LOST by 10
Kelly/Riley LOST by 4
Verplank/Riley LOST by 2
Mediate/Pernice WON by 4

Small profit on the matchups, which is a huge improvement on the last two weeks! Jacobson disappointed, but it took a top-10 finish from Riley for the other two matchups to lose so plenty of reason for encouragement.

PGA Tour ytd
Matchups: 8-13; -19.59 units
Outrights: 2-7; -6.60 units

All Tours ytd
Matchups: 22-19; -4.64 units
18-holes: 4-1; +7.60 units
Outrights: 2-19; -23.10 units

What a nailbiter - I can't believe this finish - watching the first playoff hole on the internet now!

Well - that was disappointing!! At least for us Kendall fans. Well played by Mickelson. But it sure cost me a bundle. Not sure when we'll see Skip play like that again.

Nice job on outrights LA :)
Somebody got thru to Mick during off season. Took 3 wood out of bag and replaced with 1 iron and wasn't distance oriented with driver ranking 14th this week--much more compact swing.
Could be interesting season!
