How Stupid Are Basketball Players These Days ??

I was just watching Chris Childs (Raptors) and he was wearing his cap sideways on his head . Not backwards, as hundreds of 'jocks' have come to do over the last 10 years or so.I am just wondering if others in the N.B.A enjoy looking so bloddy STUPID and SILLY ????
I think back and I just can't imagine the "class" acts of 'round ball' looking like these clowns. Can you imagine Magic, Kareem, Dr. J., Larry Bird, etc. etc. wearing their caps just sitting on the side of their head ????
Oh, it just hit me . These 'kids' today want the big bucks,the REALLY BIG RESPECT( and don't dis them), but they can't give up their Gangster ways. I just don't get what these idiots are REALLY supposed to be ,as I'm sure they quite often wonder themselves. I just can't seem to remember seeing a Hockey , Football , Baseball, Soccer,player of pro caliber looking like the Gangster Wanna Be attitude SOME( please note ,I said some) of these talented players Publicly portray.
Honestly ,be a Pro sports player and try to use your grade 7 education and be a Gangster at the same time time , OR try to think about what you are giving your youth in your City while you portray what kids are looking up to.
I don't know, they make me laugh,but any Gangster (wannabe or real) is a waisted life - I don't care what colour your skin is !!!!!!
No wonder M. Jordan just laughs at them...

I thought the derogatory term 'cracker' was reserved for poor whites from the Old South of the United States. I didn't know a person from Canada could be called a 'cracker'.

I saw Charles Barkley on TV recently say that 'white folks' don't like millionaire NBA players wearing corn rows. He said a few other choice things as well, mainly that today's NBA players aren't very good compared to the level of talent when he played.

Is Charles some sort of 'cracker' as well?

I'm not saying you are or you ain't racist, but employing Black people is far from evidence that you're not.

Going on a diatribe about what is primarily black culture in the NBA and then throwing in a sentence at the end that says, "I don't care what color you are" is hardly the way to make the point either.

Your initial post rubbed me the wrong way, too. I would have appreciated it more if you just said, "Some black NBA stars are sending the wrong message." Sure. Some white ones are, too. Some Black NBA stars are sending good messages. Some white ones are too.

Some Hispanic baseball players send bad messages, and some send good messages. I can only think of one Hispanic NBA player, so he's either sending the right message or the wrong message, or maybe mixed messages. :shrug:

That's so obvious its not even worth bringing up.

However, I don't think the problem is with the players. Charles Barkley had it right when he said "I'm not a role model." If you think the problem of illegitimacy in this country would go away if the NBA had a "no children out of wedlock" policy, you're crazy. Role models for children are the respondible adults in their lives, not people on TV. If the child doesn't get this, it's the fault of his parents, not the professional athlete.

Behave in a decent manner in front of your children, and then Bill Clinton can do all the philandering he wants, and Robert Downey can do all the coke he wants, and Jason Kidd can hit his wife all he wants and none of it will make a difference to your kid.

Why do some people INSIST on turning everything Racial.???It is a problem everywhere,but I find Canada does'nt go as crazy screaming "RACISM"..Toronto (6 million people) is THE largest multi-cultural Major city in the world,so we are very used to people that don't have white skin. And my longest employee with me has been 14 1/2 years,she is from The British West Indies- not white and my shortest person on 'the team' is white. As I said , I hire the BEST PERSON for 'that' job.
And I still say the NBA is sending the wrong message and "SOME" of the players are Gangster Wannabees and that = STUPIDITY!!!!! Plain and bloddy simple. What in God's name are you babbling about? The thesis (if you want to call it that) of this thread was about a player who wore his cap sideways and you have single-handedly twisted it every way from here to Harlem. And with every twist it becomes more and more clear what your original intent was.


Some people are clearly uncomfortable with the notion of young, black, rich athletes expressing themselves as they will(even something as offensive as wearing a cap sideways). I realize that this is a function of ingrained parental beliefs and social ignorance, but that doesn't make it any more palatable.
