Between Green Bay and Iowa City
Outrights:

Ernie Els(+815 and +205 Top 5)

Stuart Appleby(+2550 and +510 Top 5)

Jason Day(33/1 and 1/4 for Top 4)

- - http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-sport/imagine-what-a-healthy-jason-day-can-do-20110106-19h0o.html
I read this article about Jason Day and thought he was quite possibly worth a shot at 33/1, then read the difficult Kona winds are supposed to be laying down, then saw the Aussie was paired with Ernie, and I said I can't not be on him.

I reaped about what I sowed from last year's effort and had an extremely poor year to show for it. I can't hope for any more than reaping what I sow this year.

Repeating the heads up that looking at the tournament posts from prior years on a consistent basis can provide profitable INFORMATION and ANGLES.

Cheers to All in 2011! :toast:

And much thanks to Stanley. :0008

From the "second year in a row" for Tiger when I posted this on 1.07.10, to a "third year in a row " here on 1.06.11

Tiger Woods has never gone anywhere, and yet for the second year in a row he?s a serious contender for comeback player of the year.

"I told him, 'I promise you one thing: You'll never meet another person as tough as you.' He hasn't. And he won't." ~ Earl Woods

"From the beginning, that quote or that perspective has been the only proper starting point for an assessment of the legendary achievements of golfer Eldrick Tiger Woods - past, present and future. Simply put, it references the foundation on which all the other pieces are constructed." ~ lostinamerica
And . . . With everything else the same, imagine what Tiger's CV would have looked like if The Freak had somehow won the Masters last year . . .http://madjacksports.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2620929#post2620929 (Posts #16 and#30 - I stand by every carefully chosen word :0008 ).

Round 1 play (2pts):

Matt Kuchar to beat Dustin Johnson +100 @ 5Dimes [also available @ William Hill and Paddy Power]
Backing last year's standout player - Kuchar led the Tour in money won, scoring average and all-around ranking, among others - to continue where he left off in 2010. He does have a good history here, having finished 3rd last year, and he kept himself in competitive shape over the off-season with appearances in the Chevron World Challenge and the Shark Shootout (as did Johnson). Johnson is a strong opponent, but his previous record on the Plantation Course is not as impressive as his power golf should imply: he has finished outside the top-10 in both of his previous apperances here. He did start well last year, but that is not something that he has often repeated: the last time that Kuchar failed to shoot the lower 1st round score on the PGA Tour was back in June 2010 at the U.S. Open.

Round two fellas. I'm putting my undefeated 5-0 match up on the line... (goes back to 09 as no plays last year.)

I think Stricker comes to play tomorrow sitting 7th. Byrd might be a good fade come Saturday but expect him to be there tomorrow.

Interested in thoughts on Kim. Will he continue?

ROUND 2

McDOWELL (-103) over MAHAN - McDowell quoted after round as saying he was happy with the way he played, just didn't get much out of his round....Had 34 puts after hitting 17 greens....Wind expected to increase which should favour McDowell.....I think it was important for Mahan to beat McDowell when they were paired together yesterday, and now they are in different pairings.

Round 2 play (4pts):

Robert Garrigus to beat Ryan Palmer -105 @ Bet365
Two reasons for this play. First, Palmer has never done well on the Plantation Course - he has played here twice previously and, in 2005, he finished 5th-last and, in 2009, he finished 3rd-last. Second, Garrigus is a player who kicks on from a good start and fades after a bad one - last year, for example, he averaged 68.27 in the 2nd round after an opening round in the 60s, whereas he averaged 72.73 in the 2nd round after an opening round in the 70s. He opened with a four-under-par 69 yesterday. Palmer's 'good start-bad start' effect is much more standard and smaller - he averaged 70.67 in the 2nd round after an opening round in the 60s, whereas he averaged 72.15 in the 2nd round after an opening round in the 70s. He opened with a 70 yesterday.

ROUND 3

BEN CRANE (+116) over IAN POULTER

TO WIN TOURNAMENT

CARL PETTERSSON (+595)

I think Pettersson is playing as well as anyone.....His only bogey today was bad luck getting plugged on the lip of the bunker on 9.....First in both putts per round and putts per GIR after Friday.....Saw an article where he said he practiced harder this off season than ever before....I think he wants this one, and he's the kind of guy who can stay hot for a little while....

Round 3 play (2pts):

Carl Pettersson to beat Robert Garrigus -105 @ Carib [available generally]
Surprised to see Garrigus priced as the favourite in this 3rd round matchup. He was a big winner yesterday, but now that he has a one-shot lead, he is not a player to side with. He has started the day in the lead five times on the PGA Tour and each time he has shot 71 or higher, including one time after 36 holes: it was the 2010 Reno-Tahoe Open he shot 73-74 over the weekend. Pettersson looked very impressive yesterday and is in the perfect position to put pressure on Garrigus.
