I would never say, it is impossible to get someone involved in a game on the take. We all know this has happened and will happen at some point again.
I really do think the whole "fix" talk get sooo blow out of proportion (mostly by disgruntled gamblers who don't like to blame themselves or take losses). To think that players and coaches who make millions of dollars without the risk of doing something like that, are all in on some "fix" in alliance with the corporations in Las Vegas is pretty over the top. Is it really possible, this would have stayed mute for such a period of time. I mean really?
There are thousands and thousands of scenarios and games being wagered on... strange things are always going to happen with that sample size. It would actually be more strange if we didn't see a certain percentage of games come down to the wire and be determined by a bad call, a goof ball play, or some other "crazy" occurrence.
Quick scenario... A woman wins the NJ state lotto twice in the matter of a couple of years. Everyone yaps on and on about how crazy and random this is. A billion to 1 odds or whatever. The fact is, with all the state, local, and national lottos and chance games around the world, it is relatively likely that this would happen to someone, somewhere. Point being, don't be fooled by randomness! While the odds for that particular lady were astronomical, this type of even was mathematically likely to occur.
Keep it simple, folks. The NFL doesn't need to risk their billion dollar business banking on the fact that the all the league's personnel keeps quiet on the big "FIX" that they are bamboozling us all with. Look at what a schmuck Donaghy is. There are much much worse in the NFL. And they are all keeping quiet? And Jim Harbaugh is risking his 5 million a year job on something like that. The odds that that game would have come down to that are pretty slim. Harbaugh is in the wrong profession if he conjured that one up on the spot.
I believe a ton of shady shit happens in a lot of walks of life. But, when you think about what would need to be done for this big "theater show" to occur - it is just beyond the realm of likely, in my humble opinion.
