To answer your question Franky I ask you how many times do you tryout a club before you buy it? A couple times or none at all most likely. Golf companies tend to make their clubs so that after a few hits it is am impulse buy on the results. It is true that most people fight a slice. But a hook also goes lower. The sonartec I think is better because it comes off hot but lands soft. It has a great feel and alot of versatility.

Ryan(bullet), if you want to get all technical on here, you can say what you want to about particular metals, weight displacement thru the head, or even the dynamics of the clubhead, but the versatility you speak of more than likely will depend on which shaft you put in the club more than the club itself. Hell, you could hit a shovel high and soft with the right kick in it.

are you going to take a shaft out in the middle of a round and put in a different one to hit it higher?

Heaven, oh!!, this isn't it?!
Thanks guys for this detailed disscussion. I did some reading on the sonartec, and that club looks interesting. I have hit the Taylor Rescue clubs(friends) before, and liked them. Although I think anything like them would be better than what I already have.
Let me throw this to you "experts"
In order of priority I need:
1. New driver.
2. Get one or two hybrids.
3. Buy new irons.
Already have a RAC 56" wedger with white hot putter. Love em.

Right now trying the new Callaway F3 Fusion Tour driver 9.5' loft Aldila NVS 65-S 350 shaft. I hit this straighter than most I have tried. Wondering how this compares to the R-7 driver with the movable weights. I'm about 80% sold on this Driver.

And yes, I try them before I buy them.

Looking for a driver i would find a head first that you like. Like to look at, like the sound, like the feel. Once you find the head you like, find the shaft you like in that head. The shaft is the key nowadays to a driver. Once you find a shaft that fits you, you are set.

Not only that, but make sure you buy the driver that you try out and like as they will vary within the same make and model...

R-7
Nike Sasquatch
Cobra X-Speed

Irons
Love my Callaway x-14's
Also have hit Mizuno OS, very sweet
New Nike Slingshots as well
Whatever you do with irons, get them custom fit. Everyone's set up, lie angle, swing planes not the same

Franky, these guys are all right on and its nice to se some kowledgeable golfers on here. Wonder why they werent chiming in in the saga of me breaking par at Augusta.....hmmmm maybe because they knew what was going on! Like you!

Anyway, I would have to give 2 drivers the edge over the Callaway, R-7 TP first (my driver) and Cobra second. Cleveland Launcher is right there as well. No way to say what you need more without analyzing your game to pinpoint the weakness. I would guess a new brain and bigger muscles would be the first place to start...

I had a Cobra 414 comp, and now i hit the R-7. The cobra comp series is very underrated.

R-7 is just more playable when you have to land the fairways, but the hot face on the cobra is impressive. The ball just explodes off the club.

I hear good things about the Sasquatch(it's huge), and the new callaways as well.

I got the new cobra this year, "replacing" the R-7 TP, but I do not have the heart to take it out of my bag. So, I just carry both. For now anyway. R-7 actually had a little more forgiving face, but when you nut the X Speed it indeed explodes.
