As of last Monday, I decided to lose the 30 pounds I've been carrying around.

There are three ways I use lose the weight:
1. Weight Watchers point program
2. Run 3 miles each day
3. NO ALCOHOL

So far so good, as I have lost 8 pounds in the first week!! Now, here is the catch:

Yesterday, at 5 pm I quit smoking!!!

This is going to be quite an ordeal. However, I really feel that I can do it. I'm inspired by many on this site who have recently quit smoking.

Wish me luck, I'm going to need it!!!

protien load your diet.
Since you are going to attempt to do both at the same time.. smoking and dieting, it will probably be pretty rough for a bit.

Instead of the cigarette - drink a glass of water

Instead of the cigarette - eat a can of tuna.
(the protien will do your body good, its low in fat, and the nasty taste of the tuna will make you not want to put anything else in your mouth for awhile.

instead of a cigarette - jump rope for 15 minutes

hope it helps.

my weigh in,5'10 248 but i lift to gain weight, power lift along with ray for comp. now i can enter the masters division as of nov 10 thats the 40 and over group in the apa.i am the baby bus
biggrin.gif

some day i will have to drop down but hey i am still at a 36 waist.
but like marine said pound protien don't worry as much about weight as inches.stay off the dairy shit water water and more water, also eat 5-7 small healty meals aday to keep matab moving. watch carb intake i only take in less the 20% of my diet on carbs live of protien, that will give the lean look and help stablelize muscle mass which will burn more fat, stay away from sugar its posion.water water water at least 1 gall aday,if you are'nt talking sleeping or having sex you should be sipping on water day and night you won't belive the difference this will make.
YOU CAN DO IT.

Good luck Magic. that's a tough combination, but you can overcome anything if you are willing to fight it. You'll have support here.

diet will not work alone, go to a gym 2-3 week, go for at least two good workouts.
10mile run/jog/fast walk/crawl-start slowly at first, can do it on the track or treadmill whatever is easier.
then biking is good,
about 3 hours, do not read while working out, good luck

by the way sports like hockey, broomball, ect. are good for a work out, and to see what kind of shape your in.
thanks

On the course!
Too many changes are not good. Set realistic goals, and they are easier to meet.

Don't try to losr 30 pounds in two months....it is not practical.

Lose 3 pounds a week through exercise and diet, and you will hit your goal safely.

Good luck!

3 pounds a week for 2 months (3lbs/week x 4weeks/month)= 24 pounds.
pretty darn close to 30 pounds.
you can do it EMJ!

go buy a sweatin to the oldies tape or something. believe it or not, you will drop pounds like crazy! only reason is... you will work out like crazy and not let go on binge eating for the simple reason that you want to lose the weight faster so you dont have to listen to the lil faggot richard simmons singing and prancing around in his cute lil pink tights anymore.

Yes! Very close!

The thing is, losing a litle each week....slow and steady, beats slacking for a few weeks, and trying to starve for a couple weeks.

Hey guys, thanks for the positive response! To answer a few questions or comments:
I am drinking so much water that I'm almost drowning.
smile.gif

I'm not the kind of person who will go to the gym. It's too much of a hassle for me. However, I am running the 3 miles every night and that should burn the fat. The wife has also agreed to "put out" a little more often to help the cause.
wink.gif

As for my goal on weight loss, I CAN DO IT! I have lost weight in the past using this same method. The BIG difference here is the fact that I'm quitting smoking at the same time.
I'm a very driven person and I really appreciate all the words of encouragement. This post will also help motivate me and keep me honest.

Doc, Feel free to join in. My goal date on the weight loss is 12-8-01. On that day I WILL weigh 209lbs. BTW, I'm 6' 2" in height, and that goal weight is reasonable for me.

Thanks again everyone! I'll keep you posted!

tell her NOT to put out until you do.

trust me, you will make your goal.

other tips for your goal...

something to look at might be metabolism boosters such as xenadrine or stacker2. I took the xenedrine stuff for a 6 week stretch and WOW. major boosts in energy and you could literally feeling the pounds melting off as you run.

creatine? never touched the stuff and never will. someone else may be able to inform you if you think about it.

running:
3 miles a day is good stuff... but at least 1 day a week you should skip the 3 miler and replace it with some wind sprints. go to a track and jog one lap, sprint the next. it is a good "shock" treatment for your body so it does not get complacent.

throw in a few exercises along the way on your run once in awhile. stop and crank out 50 push ups or 100 flutter kicks and then get back up and keep running.

swimming will trim you down like its nobody's business. if you can find a pool make use of it to give your knees and ankles a break from pounding the pavement.

when you go for a run, have someone bigger and meaner than you could ever imagine run along side you and berate, belittle and scare the shit outta you. I watched a guy drop 85 pounds in 13 weeks like that... oh wait, that was boot camp.. LOL

you want any help or other info feel free to drop me a line and i will be more than happy to help ya out.

Marine, thanks for all your support. As for the running, it really works well for me. Most of the time I'm chasing the young wife. This sounds a little better that Boot Camp!

I'll let you in on another motivating factor. We are spending Xmas in Hawaii. If you are still stationed there in December, I'll buy ya a beer.

Thanks again!

Maybe we can get AcesGold to sponsor a contest for who can lose the most weight by xmas or something
wink.gif

EMJ-
xmas in hawaii? how nice for you and the missus. beautiful here right now and should be for the holidays as well. we might as well have a lil madjack pow-wow out here.. spanky is showing up as well.
I plan on being here for many more years.
smile.gif

-now i see why you wanna drop the weight.. L* so you look good in that speedo!

I already told spanky, if you want anything at all out here, drop me a line, get my email from jack or something. Tours, cruises, any type of tourist junk i can hook you up with discounts. With security as tight as it is right now, it is unlikely, but still possible to get a tour of a US Naval ship hosted by yours truly.
wink.gif

also of course, depending on the length of your stay... You will be subjected to a night of hardcore drinking and debauchery.
Last time we did a night like that someone went out the 3rd floor of their hotel room into the pool.

Marine, Looking forward to hooking up with you guys in Honolulu. If we could get a tour of the ship, that would be great! As for the tourist stuff, the offer is appreciated but I've done most of that on prior trips. This will be my tenth visit to the islands.

I'm up for going out for some serious drinking! I figure if I do lose the weight, I'll be light enough to go out the Fourth floor!!
wink.gif

My current plans are for 3 days in Honolulu beginning on Dec. 13th. Then on to Maui for 12 more days. After being such a saint for 2 months, this vacation will be well earned. Looking forward to the most important decision of the day being which cocktail will I be drinking!!

Cash & Carry, Glad to have you aboard! How much weight are you planning to lose? Is tomorrow your first day?? Throw away the cigs, I feel better already!!!!
