I think it is evident that Hollywood Themes" are out of America mainstream--Admittedly I was wrong on how bad--thought it would be worst ratings ever--however was just 2nd worse in 20 years.
Saw interesting note on Humpback Mountain--as of day of oscars less than 5% of population had viewed movie--not sure if this is good # or bad--as I am not much into movie/music ratings--having never viewed any award programs--emmys -oscars or whatever.
Meaningless stats... television ratings in general on the the big 3 channels, NBC,ABC,CBS have been going down for more than a decade because of cable competition. Most sporting events, entertainment special, newscasts etc have slipped in ratings.
If 20% of America ever went to see one movie in the theaters it would probably break every box office record ever. So 5% isn't that bad.
Spending $14 million dollars to make a critically acclaimed movie and grossing $75 million on it, hardly makes it seem like it is out of touch.
It's called an art film. What art film is ever in touch with mainstream American Themes?
Would we be better off without independant artistic films?
I just am not sure what Brokeback detractors want from Hollywood and films in general. You get tons and tons of popcorn movies where your brain can be checked at the concession stand, ones that have no politcal overtones or any uncomfortable material.
