Re: newbies
Huh? Petey, when you post a play or two, someone might consider you a 'veteran'.
As for this post, I can't be the only one who sees what this poster is saying, can I? Everyone jumps his shit, when all he is saying is, "No one says anything to a newbie, until they start producing winners."
That is not completely true, but I can see how this guy might see it that way. A lot of new posters don't get recognition. That speaks of the volume of posts MJs gets, not so much that the 'newbie' isn't getting read. I'm sure a lot of you have a pecking order of the people whom you read. If you see 100 new posts since you last checked in, you will seek the proven people out. That just makes sense.
The fact is.......if you are one of the few in here who gets read by the masses (500+ hits), you can post Miami -3, and it is good enough for most. As a newbie, people will look at that and say, "Big deal." The thing I look for in a necomer, is a quality post. A nice write up on why you made your play. Very few people do that, and it is sad. When this place was smaller, there was more of that type of post. Now, it has become a cookie cutter board. The only thing that matters to people here, is "Hey! I'm 6-0 over the last two days!"
A couple years ago, I used to actually contribute to this board! Some of you may remember....some not. I had a ton of time, and desire to pick winners. I studied, and I posted my theories and plays. The plays may not have always won, but at least you got some reasoning behind my choice. Some people would actually come back with an opinion on the other side! Fancy that!!!!! It was kind of nice to have that interaction. Some people could actually sway me off a bet, with their view of the match-up. Those were the days, boys.
At any rate, if you asked me to explain my play, I would. Now.....too many guys seem to be happy to post how well they are doing, and can't seem to give any reason for why they made the play!
So, at least to me, if you want some respect, it doesn't come from "posting your plays with a record on a consistent basis and respecting others opinions...."
It comes from adding something to the mix, and respecting others opinions.
I welcome all new posters, and try to say a little something in an initial post, if I can, but I am as guilty as others in passing by a lot of unrecognized posts. Everyone deserves to feel welcome here, until they make themselves 'unwelcomed'.
I feel that most new people here, are just fine, and fit in quite nicely. I am sure that you, and most other newbies, will feel at home in no time.
