J.smooth you know what I can not really forget. John Kitna moving the ball up and down the field at will and starting a game winning drive from their own one yard line against this vaunted defense.

You're damn right a spear to the back would a flag. That's a little different than when your arm hits his helmet when you're trying the "chop move" to cause a fumble.

So you are admitting then that whether or not he still had the ball, that would be roughing the passer. Well at least we are making pogress now. And chop moves are one thing, forearms to the heard are another. The NFL has been cracking down on cheap hits to the QBs. It's irrelevant what hits we're talking about.

Put an asterisk next to this game if it makes you feel better. At the end of the day, the Pats are still playing next week. And the Raiders aren't.

THe correct call WAS NOT made according to the rules......

The rules say that it is an incomplete pass while you are tucking the ball after pump faking.........IN THE PROCESS OF DOING SO........this was not happening when the fumble occurred.....the fumble occurred after the process of tucking it was over......not only over......but he was drawing the ball out again!!! His arm was not going forward when the fumbled occurred.....it was coming back up.....

The broadcasters totally misinformed us what was going on and the refs are blind........Gruden should have sat on the 50 yard line until it was corrected because this call determined the outcome of the game. This so called "interpretation problem" is B.S. because what the ref describes is not what happened.

Raiders got robbed because of the horrific officiating.....end of story. I am so sick and tired of these buffoons in the broadcast booth not calling them out and being misled by what is going on.....unreal.....only knowledgeable broadcasters are the golf and tennis broadcasters and some baseball guys......the football guys are so stupid that they can't hardly form a sentence much less interpret the game.......basketball guys are getting bad too as there are too many old people in the booth behind the game....

Freeze, I could not have said it better. I had to listen to Mike francessa in New york for three hours argue that it was the right call. Phill simms has always been a favorite of mine but he flops at the drop of a dime, and never argues a ref call anymore. I don't like either team, and did not have a betting interest in the game, but it was a flat out joke. How can it be in the act of throwing if he was touching the ball with both hands? How could you tell me their was irrefutable evidence to overturn that call? The Nfl Ref's Suck:moon: and Phil simms:kiss: :moon:

yep.....i had the Pats and was overjoyed but was probably more pissed at the officiating because it was an outrage and the announcers are even more.....Phil Simms is an idiot and can understand why his kid is a little slow.....hopefully Texas does not redshirt Vince Young and lets him play because he would lead them to a national championship.......--that is for you Felonius Monk.....lol.....

then today I had to sit through Dierdorf and whats his name saying Oh My all the time and then listen to the biggest buffoon of them all John Madden and Great Grandpa Summerall.......OH MY.....what a day.......I had to just shut the sound off and watch and think to myself about what i saw it was so bad.......

Francesca is a blowhard too........best guy on the radio is bob Kemp....he comes on late night on sportingnews radio formerly one on one sports and most of the time knows what he is talking about but sometimes i disagree with him....i usually go to sleep listening to his first hour.....filled with lots of good information usually related to handicapping.......

Instead of all these Raider fans crying, all though it is nice to hear, why don't they complain about Gruden isitting on the ball with 22 seconds and two timeouts left at the end of the game. They had the ball in pretty good field position.
Hey, the Patriots won and a stupid rule came to their advantage. But the Raiders and all their superstars, Fair Catch Brown and Jerry Rice and Gannon they still sat on the ball and played for a tie. CRRYYYYYY BABBY! I love it!

If you're refering to me. I am not a Raider's fan....nor a Steeler fan for that matter. I am a Michigan Wolverine fan!

Someone mentioned Kitna vs the Steelers.....The Pats also lost to Cincy. And how about not even getting a TD against the mighty Bills and needing OT to win.

Anyways, I don't like to look at stats when capping games, so I'm done looking at them. I'm just trying to get some of you to take off those red, white and blue glasses that you have on.

Well opinions are like a-holes,,,,,,,,

Well opinions are like a-holes,,,,,,,,

Everyone has one. Freeze says the call was incorrect, I say it IS correct. Somehow, I don't believe any amount of jousting back and forth on these boards will change either of our minds. I know it won't change mine.

Thunderdoll is correct though with his inferring that the Raiders had as much of a hand in their defeat as any blown call had. Hey, if you can't stop a team from marching down the field in that slop when the game is on the line (twice!), if you can't score from the 3rd qtr on, don't cry that you lost on ONE play!

Furthermore, and I will harp on this as long as Raider fans are crying foul, if you're going to be so inconsistent as to blindly pick and choose which penalties to call and which not to (Woodson's blow to the head), then in my opinion, you lose all credibility in your argument.

Inkman I know what you mean. I had the steeler teased that game and needed them on the back end of four teasers. OUch that really hurt. This is also why I can not get it out of my head because it cost me big dollars:thefinger

On the lake. Setting hooks!
WELL I HAD PATS-2.5. AND WILL STILL TELL EVERYBODY I WAS PLAIN OUT LUCKY TO WIN THAT GAME. BUT THEN AGAIN HOW MANY HAVE WE ALL LOST DUE TO BEING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF A SITUATION LIKE THAT. PATS WERE OUTPLAYED FOR 3/4 OF THE GAME. ON THEIR HOME FIELD AND IN A WEATHER ENVIROMENT THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN TO THEIR ADVANTAGE. THE FIRST 3/4 OF THE GAME SHOWED THAT PATS ARE NOT THE BEST TEAM IN THE AFC. THE LAST 1/4 & OT SHOWED THE RAIDERS ARE NOT EITHER. STILL THINK THE STEELERS WILL EASILY HANDLE THE PATS.

Steelers will EASILY handle the Pats and J-Smooth deserves a response from Code Red on that offer!!!

Smooth & Freeze...I agree w/ all of what you say!! All I know is I have been listning all day to sports radio and EVERYONE says the call was BS!!!

I cant wait to see the Pats get BURIED in PITT!!! I will be attending that game as a football fan and I cant wait!!! Pats DONT score a TD!

Hey Code, FYI, I WON on that game since I took the under and pushed on the line! This thread is all about what is fair! I am NOT EVEN a Raider fan!!!

Yes, there have been many bad calls in the past, but this one stings the NFL bad!! I agree the announcers are stiffs! Howard wouldnt have has a problem saying that was BS on the air! Believe it or not....no matter how much I hate him...the only NFL announcer I can think of that is HONEST with what "he thinks" is the right call is Theisman! Hate to admit it. but it is true!!!

STEELERE ROLE THE PATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're right, this post is about fairness.

A) 1976--Pats outplay Raiders all game long, Sugar Ray Hamilton of the Pats is called for roughing the passer (Ken Stabler) on a 4th down incompletion that would have ended the game and sent the Pats to the Super Bowl. Raiders catch a huge break, score a TD and win the game

B) 2002--Brady is hit by Woodson on a CARBON COPY REPLAY of what Hamilton was called for (get a hold of some tapes, you'll see they were identical) and is NOT called for roughing. Funny how that shit isn't even brought up, but everyone is making a Federal case out of the phantom fumble.

So where's the fairness there?

My personal thoughts are: I could really care less at this point. I'm sick of defending what happened and I'm not even going to respond to any more of this. Put your money on Pitt, load up, it's irrelevant to me. My team will be playing, and I'll be rooting my ass off for them. To say they won't even score a TD is unmitigated stupidity but hey, these message boards afford us that luxury I guess.

Now you can say the Pats won't win the game, that's a very real possibility. Say they won't cover? I think that would be a big mistake. Say they won't score a TD? That's downright comical.

Ask Don Shula about fairness in NE.
I take it you're not taking the ball cap challenge with me. No big deal, Pitt will get me enough $ to buy a coupla of them for myself.

I am not saying that the Steelers are not worthy of hosting the AFC Championship Game. In all fairness, based on the season they had they deserve it. What I am saying is based on the season the number two seed in the tournament had, that they deserve to be there too.

What I take offense at is everyone talking like the Patriots don't even deserve to be there. In their last 15 games The Patriots record is 12 and 3. They lost their starting quarterback, starting middle linebacker, and their "go to" wide reciever and never lost a beat. In fact they picked up the pace after the injuries.

Both of these teams deserve to be where they are at. I think the line is inflated. I think it will be a very close game with the Patriots prevailing in the end. But that is just my opinion. Yes on paper Pittsburgh has an edge. New England has an intangeble working for them this year, heart. Never count them out or take them lightly.

I will say this..........anyone remember the last game the Pats lost......on a sunday night against the Rams........they were up like 14-10 or something like that with the ball on the Rams 3 yard line with maybe 3 minutes left in the first half.........Antwaun Smith fumbles the ball on the 2 yard line and then the Rams take it the length of the field to score. Instead of being up 21-10 they are down 17-14 at half. I wonder what would have happened had they scored the td. That being said I cant see the steelers losing this weekend. This will be their 3rd championship gm at Pitt in like the last 8 yrs......SD(L) Indy(w)Denver(L).....cant see them blowing this opportunity..........Pitt 24 NE 10

Guys that is why you play the season for homefield advantage. You know you are playing against everyone on the road. How many times in the playoff has there been a questionable call against the road team. The Raiders blew their home field:thefinger

I heard an interview with former official Jerry Markright (Markbreit, whatever) on the radio this morning.

He said the second he saw the first slo-mo he knew it would be overturned and so did everyone other official watching the game at home.

He was plugging a new book that sounded interesting, too, about his officiating days. He told a funny story about leaving the mic on at dallas and telling the dallas QB "you jerked the shit out of it" (referring to his head to draw an offside).

I had money on the raiders, too, but I saw the blow to the head, and I thought it was an incomplete pass, as per the rule.

JM also said they might look at that rule in the offseason, but they won't change it, especially not because of one play.
